That note Karen hit, slept in, woke up & continued hit non-stop was definitely a gift. There’s only a few singers I know that can do that & they are….Teena Marie, Patti Labelle, Rachelle Farrell, Whitney & Mariah.
The musical telepathy between these sisters is unmatched. It’s a true testament to their musical gifts and interpersonal relationships. They are literally talking to each other while singing.
This has been my favorite song of theirs from day one . Twinkie’s mimicry of a clarinet then the “ muted trumpet “ effect ? Pure mastery and genius ! The blend of this sisters is no less than PHENOMENAL ! Truly anointed Sisters born of an anointed musical genius - Mother Mattie Moss Clark 💖💕🔥🎶
It's the unison for me. The way they sing the same note together WITHOUT ANY dissonance is incredible. That is time and practice right there. They have very unique voices from each other. So the way that they come together to sing unison is what amazes me.
This was amazing!!! You mentioned her tongue in the video lol.... I don't think people realize how most of them have a lisp and how their lisp actually contributes to their amazing sound
Dorinda killed that! The runs were so smooth. I’m definitely over here tryna copy her licks. I wish I could grunt like Twinkie tho. Karen the most dramatic, of course. That long note was insane!
As a singing sibling, I like hearing siblings that sing. Just like siblings look alike, they also have one common feature that makes them sound alike. I can hear myself when I hear my sisters. It is really creepy but also kind of touching because we lost our mom and this is something she gave all of us and we all have the same voice but it’s like the difference between a viola, violin, and cello. It’s like the one family might have the same nose or high cheek bones, we kind of have similar features in our voice. It makes me feel like a part of a family and DNA. When I hear Karen I hear her sisters, her daughter and even J Moss their cousin. I hear their familia. I hear their inheritance.
Yes, there's something uniquely special about a singing family. The Walls Group bless my soul like this ALL the time. My family is like that, too, in Barbados 🇧🇧
You are so underrated, I’ve never taken a vocal lesson or music class in my damn life, but looking at your videos gives me so much insight on the musicality of artists before me, at 18 I be feeling like a vocal sage looking at your vids lmaoo
You are awesome and I love how you break down the vocals. I can tell you are a gifted singer as well. I've watch other 'so-called' vocal teachers analyze vocalists, but never in this way where you draw us into this vocal lesson. Thank you for being so vocal about the Clark Sisters' vocal styling. I love it🥰
Same!! I was like, wow she gave that second part a different tone… like she’s a diff person, and a different different tone for the third part LOLOL Had NO idea it was the three of them singing lead lol
Mariah Carey mentions Karen Clark Sheard as one of her inspirations. What an honor but we all know Karen been doing this for years along with her fabulous sisters.
Idk if y’all noticed but when she first started holding the note of course she took a big breath and then as the note went on her head went down. Then she came back up after she let it go. I could be wrong but maybe that’s how she held it so long. Either way Karen deserves to be in some record book for that note ✨✨👑
THE CLARK SISTERS, to me, set the STANDARD of a female group harmonizing. Their incredible uniqueness is absolutely brilliant! They were ahead of their time. And, whomever is the lead singer, utilizes the microphone to make unique vocal sounds. Good God!Hallelujah! Sometimes they'll do techniques with a microphone that blows my mind! Remarkable! No one was doing that before the Clark Sisters. And, Twinkie, what a prolific songwriter, vocalist, and organist. The Clark Sisters, to me, still to this day, are unmatched! Can I get an AMEN? 🎼🎹🎤🎤🎤🎤🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
These technical lessons is what becomes the bridge between singing and song artistry... when you're visualizing the song more than just throwing notes together.
The Clarks will ALWAYS be the greatest bc of their ridiculously unique sound that has shaped alot of contemporary Gospel music. Great review!! Also I was wondering if you would review Loren Allred singing 'Never Enough' with David Foster? I would like to see your take on her performance.
I absolutely love the Clark sisters! They are legends and vocal beasts! Karen is my fave (echoes, high notes, squalls, rolls, repeated syllables), and Dorinda next!, Anointed for sure! yes JESUS!! ❤️🔥

I love it!! You are dope my guy and what can we say about The LEGENDARY Clark Sisters🤦🏾♂️ they are phenomenal! Thank God for their mother training them when they were young because those harmonies are like no other
I love all of the sisters and what they add to the group I love Dorinda raspy voice and her runs are underrated Twinkie is Twinkie she has the best growl out of the sister and Jacky is my girl we don’t give her credit then Karen has always been my favorite
Finally! Yes! And it would be wonderful to hear your take on Nothing To Lose ( from the Florida A&M recording) by The Clark Sisters. But we patient. 😁 but this analysis was great.
@@jmlegrairstudio that one is less ‘produced’ more raw one could say especially because Twinkie at that point had not been part of the group for awhile. The extended version shows how they are working their way through the song. Fascinating and brilliant at the same time. Those placements, riffs, runs and carrying the message of the song. Pfffff gifts gifted 🙏🏿. Now your analysis 😁😁😁
I am from Detroit. These are our gems. I have had the opportunity to watch them and their mom Pastor Mattie Moss Clark. I have also had the opportunity to sing in a choir as backup for Dorinda many moons ago. Karen has a specific breathing exercise/technique to hold notes. I’m sure they all use it as they taught it to KeKe and are teaching it to their great grand grands as well. They have demonstrated the technique. You may be able to find a video.
As for the to meeeee she actually has held it even longer in concert. I predict that she made the note ride on the release of the big breathe she took. That’s the reason why she was able to hold it that long and end it properly. The control was great
She did it again in kierras channel to see if she could hold it as long as she did originally and I think she did it during their virtual concert too. She’s just crazy.
It should be understood and recognized that out of THIS GROUP there was MANY singers born who patterned themselves after them. Faith Evans, Kelly Price, (Karen), Fantasia (Dorinda) Brandy and Missy (with the harmony arrangements). And just so we are ALL clear Karen Clark was/is the greatest singer of HER Generation she was even Whitney Houston's favorite singer. At any rate also dont forget that their Mother and SISTER Twinkie Clark (she usually played the organ etc was essentially their "vocal coach" as well) most people who arent really associated woth the church usually never know this.

"Musical telepathy"- perfect description; so beautifully said
Nope wont put telepath on the gospel nope nope nope!
No one talks about Jackie. But Jackie was holding that tenor down!!!! I always loved her vocal parts the best!!!❤❤❤
The bomb❤❤❤
Auntie Jackie is the balance for me! Love her tone!
What’s even MORE IMPRESSIVE is that at 16:09 she didn’t take ANY TIME TO RECOVER HER OXYGEN! She went right into the next note IMMEDIATELY!!! 😩🥺😟
There Mother was a genius also in terms of music, and a woman of God, Mother Mattie Moss Clark was phenomenal
Lets not forget TWINKIE CLARK
Indeed she Miss Mattie is the Root 🙌🏾💖🙏🏾
