    Anki's great too, but I'm more of the hands-on studying type myself. Since everyone learns differently, this is simply the method I personally found best for learning. I used this method to learn between 50-70 words per day while I lived in Korea, so I know that it's possible. It takes time for sure, but because I was also practicing Korean all day, it worked out fine.

      I've been learning other languages in a similar way, but my technique is to divide the words into 5 words groups. So, basically, you write the 5 words and try to do the thing that was shown in the vid (though I don't take any breaks between doing the "to learn" thing) and basically repeat doing this to the point when you get all 5 right. Then move to the next 5 words. Just remember to revise all the groups when you are finishing learning :) It's almost the same technique as in this vid, but just with dividing words into smaller sections, so this would be easier to remember, especially when the words you are learning are completely new for you.

    Sorry this reply's so late. I lived in Korea for almost 3 years, if you count the initial trip I took, plus the month long trips I've taken each year since then. I don't know how to classify my level of fluency, other than to say "I'm fluent," since I haven't taken the TOPIK test because it wasn't available in my area until recently. I did score Adv-High on a Korean test from the ACTFL in 2011, but that's the only official test I've taken I know the score of.

    I used almost the same technique for learning Finnish when I was 22. It worked really well and I learned about 20 words a day.
    Now that I'm 30, I'm trying this technique for Korean again and notice I'm learning 100 times.. slower.. It's harder when you have to write/read it hangul. And also harder when you're becoming and old fart I guess.

    안녕하세요! I'm sorry this question really doesn't fit with this video but... Could you possibly tell me how to say 'just' in Korean? I already know how to, but I was looking through my Korean dictionary last night and it listed 9 possible ways to say it. (단지/그냥/정확히/꼭/딱/막/방금/금방/곧). I know that 딱 means 'just' as in 'perfectly/right' and I also know that 방금 means 'just' as in 'just now/a moment ago'. I've been studying Korean for about a year now, and I know a lot of Korean words hold a slight nuance, so I figure that while all of these entries may mean 'just', they all probably have a different meaning of it. I'm sorry that this is kind of a big question. -_- If you could help, though, I would be really grateful. :) 감사합니다!

    Another question: How do I know what words to study if I know Hangul but I'm still a beginner, i know words like 감사함니다 and 안녕하세요 and other words and phrases. I just dont know what words to study.

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  8 лет назад +2

      If you don't have immersion to help (or a teacher/class), you'll need a structured course (such as books and lessons) to tell you what words to study in the beginning. Studying without a structured course, and without a teacher, and without immersion will probably not be very effective for a first time learner.

    What an awesome low-tech way to study~ I think I'll try that out at some point. It's been a serious struggle to get myself to sit down and study actual vocabulary... I'm in Korea now, so I've been using TV, dramas, and listening to conversations as "practice" - but I tend to zone out about halfway through when I realize I only glean about 20%... motivation tips? (You know, other than "you're in Korea, use your environment..." or "find an interest..."?)

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  10 лет назад +3

      I think motivation comes when you can see yourself improving, that's why people have it so much when they first start learning a language, but feel it go away after awhile. I'd recommend trying to set up a regular study plan, and keeping to it no matter what. Maybe 30 minutes every night without exception. Once you can feel yourself improving a bit more, that'll help keep you motivated :-) Good luck~!

    This would work better if you used a list of words that are relevant to you. If you use random words or lists that dont apply to your daily conversation (ie. If you dont talk about it, don't need to learn that list till much later) you will forget them no matter how much you study it.

    • @GoBillyKorean
      @GoBillyKorean  7 лет назад +1

      Absolutely. If these are random words, someone wouldn't remember them after a week. They should be important, relevant words that you'll be able to use. It's hard to even get 50 words like that, unless you're studying intensely while living in Korea (I did, so it worked for me). But the method can be scaled down to fewer words for people who are studying with a more normal schedule.

  • @GRADER800
    @GRADER800 4 года назад +1

    First of all, it's not good to learn a new language by translating it to your native language, because you interrupt the natural flow of the thought process. Put in other words, during a conversation, your response time will take longer if you add the extra time for translation. The bottom line is you have to think in English. There's no other way around to be very fluent. If you want to know the meaning of a term, use an English dictionary.
