So one issue I see is that the left side boiler water that is being dyed blue is not necessarily mixed and the specific gravity of the dye could be part of the reason it is moving into the tank and falling… perhaps a colored carrier with a lower specific gravity would “simulate” hot water better and keep the color more at the top, I believe the hot water would not sink the same way. Also if you did heat the water some it would be good to watch this with infrared. The plastic would slow the effect down due to being an insulator but I think after some steady state running we would see the thermal path.
