Very heartening to see a young couple taking up traditional Japanese crafts. With how few children there are in Japan and how old the population is- they are doing their culture an immeasurable service. 🙏
Very fortunate to be born in a culture that provides teachers and gives children the desire to do their best. My theme song, as an American, has been this: ruclips.net/video/mnlze1ygsfI/видео.html Then youtube came along!
Absolutely fascinating; each cut is done to perfection & then to carve these fine whisks - amazing. Hopefully, they will pass this age old wonderful skill to their children.
Absolutely incredible craftsmanship. Both husband and wife have extremely skilled techniques they have worked tirelessly to perfect. I admire both of their attention to detail and work ethic to produce something beautiful.
The amount of patience and delicacy required for this work is astounding. The beauty and quality of the work is very apparent. I wonder just how long it takes to make one whisk from start to finish after drying the bamboo?
Very well made documentary. It's probably the best edited and thought out documentary I have watched and was riveted listening to both the English and Japanese explanations. Incredible workmanship by both husband and wife. 👏Thank you. 👍🏻🇦🇺😁
Just got it yesterday and the cheap one arrived today. What a difference! Obviously, the real Takayama whisk will not be used for tea but admired as a piece of art.
So often you hear Japanese craftspersons saying "I've been doing this now for 20 years and am starting to feel I am getting better" I have been to Japan many times and the things I bring back most often are handcrafted items
When I watch them work on their craft it's Zen like. Patience and meditation go hand in hand as they work. It's really beautiful to watch and the end product is magnificent.
I love the "Time- In" that hand-crafted items like this have. It is what I look for for many reasons: their spirit that's in the item, the personal touch present in every piece, the little inclusions each piece inevitably have. This is art and beauty and life....
It looks like a beautiful flower getting ready to open! Great craftsmanship as always from the Japanese! Such attention to detail in everything they do! Many blessings to you all!
Absolute perfection. A daily tea drinker myself I have never see the making of the whisk. Thank you so much for sharing and passing along this dying tradition to the world.
bamboo is awesome stuff. it grows in all kinds of places. i live in TN in the USA and it grows marvelously here. ive been using it for year for all kinds of my own crafts
The Japanese people are so amazing and their dedication to keeping their crafts and traditions alive is something the whole world should learn from. Do not forget your history and your heritage. Such an amazing race of human beings, we need more of them. 💪💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
@@WoodworkingEnthusiasts , Your Family is also Beautiful. Live long and Prosper. Respect....USA...just for a bit of knowledge, I only purchase Japanese Products. Especially knives. Only the Germans compare. I prefer Japanese.
Beautiful. I watched this whilst holding a whisk and examining it alongside the process of one being made . Such a wonderful experience. Bamboo is such a versatile natural resource.
I sometimes worry that I am a bit to fussy about preparing my coffee. But after watching this video about an implement for tea making, I realize I'm a savage. I have held and admired tea whisks many times, but it is eye-opening to see the tremendous amount of highly skilled hand work that goes into making a single one. It's inspiring to see Sachiko-san's innovations applied to this traditional craft.
The more I find out about Japanese culture the more I’m drawn to it. It’s that closeness to nature and respect and love for the wood as ancient traditional material that’s still used today in the same manner. It’s absolutely beautiful to see.
Bamboo is one of the worlds best resource. So versatile and renewable, readily available and fast growing. And is classified as a grass. What more could you ask for.
There's a bit of Japanese context here. They call it "houchou", which is the term for the knife you'd use in a kitchen. This is a bit unusual, as it's not being used for cooking but crafting. Direct translation is iffy for sure.
I was rough cutting 1/2 cured bamboo to length with a rotary saw. The ease with which it cut gave me courage to converse with a pretty girl that was there. I made a joke and glanced to see if perhaps she would smile. The 20' bamboo shoot wedged and my hand was sucked into the blade. The two middle fingers split from the back side. There is a glitter of wisdom in this story. 🤔 She disappeared a week later. Came back 10 years later and died, alas, leaving me with 3 month-old twins. They are 8 now...And I still nap whenever I can!😁
I'm sure they were going slower for demonstration purposes, and they have an efficient system down. That being said, $50 still seems very under priced.
How is it that Japan is on another level when it comes to arts and crafts and that it places so much importance and celebrity in those arts, yet the country's historicity is steeped in so much Imperial and feudal brutality towards its own people. Is it that its people have great honour and passion, and that is applied to everything they do? I rather believe that that is so.
your thinking is absolutely right, they are among the very few young people who dare to go down this path, and of course, if not give up, the passion will always be full and deserve the honour
It is a pleasure watching Japanese artisans, Everything they do is so satisfying and relaxing and skilful.👌👍
glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, thank you, that was fascinating and their dedication to producing an excellent product is admirable.

Having your mom-in-law as your boss making the family’s super perfectionist product….now that’s whisk-y business
Good one. lol
Amazing how many uses Bamboo has in the hands of very skilled patient people, nice to see something not mechanized or computerized, Thanks.
glad to hear that from you :)
Even more beautiful was the warm relationships and teamwork among the family.
Awesome family. Much respect. May your family continue for another 500 years.

I find such joy in the humble striving for excellence for even the simplest of things.
Me 5 minutes in: "This seems pretty straightforward."
Me 10 minutes in: "Whoa"
Me 6 minutes in: CRAP, I broke another one!
Congratulations!
Maravilhoso o trabalho de vocês, manter viva uma tradição é manter viva uma história e um país.

"In the world of tea whisks, a small blade is called a knife". Fun fact.

I'm sure they were going slower for demonstration purposes, and they have an efficient system down. That being said, $50 still seems very under priced.
I love their skill and dedication, but it the way the narrator describes them it sounds like a Monty Python sketch.
