  • How to wash and care for your down sleeping bag or jacket at home in your tumble dryer.
Step 1 Run washing machine empty and rinse the detergent drawer
Step 2 wash sleeping bag on delicates low spin and temperature
Step 3 drop dry sleeping bag until you can't easily squeeze water out
Step 4 spin the sleeping bag on low setting to remove rest of water (it's better to spin it after it's drip dried to reduce pressure on stitching)
Step 5 dry sleeping bag with dryer balls and on low heat setting
Step 6 keep checking and returning to the dryer, keep going until its fluffed up completely. If its not fluffed, it's not dry.
    Voilà! 😁
My sleeping bag and jacket turned out better than before - more fluffy. After 5-10 washes the stitching on my jacket has started to deteriorate so don't get carried away with cleaning too often!

Great tutorial. I had to use a couple of tennis balls last time I washed mine as I could not find dryer balls.

Well done Cat for this vid, I would not have thought you could wash a sleeping bag like that, looks like my Rab Alpine 600... Good to know that it comes out ok after some gentle drying! Thanks love 🙂

Cheers! It was the rab ascent 900. You just have to keep tumble drying it till it fluffs back up. If its not fluffy, it's not dry! I was so pleased I washed all my down products 😂

@@Wild.cat.adventures Oh well done! I noticed you put the Nicwax in the wash too. I guess that help with the feathers waterproofness? Xx

I give mine a quick clean after a venture out. Then a thorough deep clean and re proof with nik wax etc every 3 months or sooner in mid winter.. Same with my waterproofs.. It takes time, but we'll doing in the long run.. I even reproof my rucksacks before winter sets in.. 😁 Then there's the tent.. 🤣😁 have a great weekend Cat .. saw you stealthing download festival 😁😁👍🤟

Cheers Mike, aye I do all those things too but I'm terrible with my waterproof trousers, they get dirty every time I go out. Any suggestions for interim cleaning?

@Alternative Gear Reviews hiya Cat.. if there my cheap pair non gortex I simply put them in the washing machine when home. My gortex ones, I try to remove as much mud before heading home. Then in the basin and just with warm water, and a sponge ill wipe them off and try to get as much dirt out of the side zippers. I only use non bio liquid soap to clean mine. In the washing machine separate on a thorough clean with grangers performance wash on a low temp.. It's the leg side zippers I contrate on to keep clean as they can possibly leak.

They key is to tumble dry on low heat fir ages, keep going till it fluffs back up, if it's not fluffy it ain't dry. I've done my rab jacket but after several washes stitching on one of the baffles has deteriorated so don't over wash 👍
