Hi, you can air dry them. It will take quite a while through (days). I would let your jacket drip dry from a hanger and then in a couple of times a day redistribute the down by giving it a good shake. Hi yes, because most "normal" washing powders and liquids have additives which enhance the colour etc (all the marketing blurb). The issue is that this can leave a residue on the down and so reduce the loft after washing. Specific down wash is really simple and just cleans the down and doesn't leave a residue.

I have a fiber jacket that I washed and this caused the filling inside it to clump. Can you help me fix it? I love this jacket too much ، I took the jacket to the dry cleaners, but they told me that it cannot be returned as it was, and that the feathers inside it cannot be same like before . I have balls of wool, can it help? Please answer
Hi, it depends on the fill of your jacket. if the insulation is synthetic (fiber) then probably the filling has torn and this can't be fixed. If the fill is down/feather then wash it again and tumble dry - give wool balls a go and you should be able to get the loft back. If you're not sure what the filling of your jacket is made of then this video may help: ruclips.net/video/B1IYmjJMCjw/видео.htmlsi=bIAGhkzbH5gKnUHM
Thanks for your sharing experience, that’s make me more confident washing my down jacket! I have a bit query about what temperature you set for drying the jacket? I see from the dryer I have, there are 4 options and 2 of them have the lowest temperature 30 degree. Should I choose that?

As it gets dryer you'll probably want to shake the down around more regularly to break up the clumps of down. This method does work it just takes time a bit of persistence...
Down is just specifically the inner feathers of a bird, which are smaller, softer and have more insulation properties. So practically speaking you treat them the same
What about a long down coat? And could you try to dry the coat in a washing machine that has the drying option also? It is of course not the same as tumble dryer but have a machine that has this drying option. I do need to wash my long down coat and since it was expensive I am trying to gather as much information as possible prior to washing it.
Hi, thanks for your question. I've tried washing a few down jackets at once but the arms of the jackets have all come out tightly twisted around each other and I worry that this can damage the down. I would probably wash a down jacket and down gillet (vest) together but otherwise (annoyingly) I would stick to washing jackets individually.
Hi. I have 1 down feather jacket and 2 synthetic puffy jackets to wash (all adult), and a 10kg washing machine. Would it be too ambitious to wash them all together at once?
Hi, yes you can air dry them. It will take quite a while through (days). I would let your jacket drip dry from a hanger and then in a couple of times a day redistribute the down by giving it a good shake. As it gets dryer you'll probably want to shake the down around more regularly to break up the clumps of down. This method does work it just takes time a bit of persistence..
Hi there, thanks for your message. Ideally you want to balls to have a bit of weight to them or be prickly so they bounce the jacket around a bit in the dryer. My dryer balls are really soft, light and smooth so I don't think they would be ideal. If your concerned just stop the dryer a few times and give your jacket a really good shake to move the down around.
Hi, I'm not that sure - but I doubt it matters. I would probably wash it the right way round as the outside of the jacket is probably more dirty than the inside.
My question is because I have a top loader washer. Could I just wash it by hand with the right detergent warm water squeeze it gently and put it in the dryer with the balls would that work?
Hi, you might want to let the jacket drip dry a bit to get more of the water out before putting in the dryer - but I don't see why it wouldn't work in theory.
Hi, yes you can air dry a down jacket. I'm planning on trying it very soon. From what I've heard it will take quite a while ( a few days). You'll want to hag it to drip dry first and then once it's not soaking wet keep going back to it a shaking up the down to make sure it doesn't clump.
Hi, with synthetic puffer jackets you don't need to be as careful with the drying process. You can just wash and hang them up to dry/ tumble dry/ air dry. Most synthetic insulation is a sheet sewn into the garment do it stays in place when you wash it and doesn't clump at one end of the baffle like down does.
Hi, you can air dry it. It will take quite a while though (days). I would let your jacket drip dry from a hanger and then in a couple of times a day redistribute the down by giving it a good shake. Real down has feathers that contain natural oils. Heat will release those oils and put off an awful smell. I would recommend tumble drying with zero heat along with tennis balls and let the jacket air-dry completely in the Sun ☀️
I washed according to instructions. They called for an extra spin. I did that and found that it didn't spin all water out and so jacket was soaked in water for a time. I then dried it and it looks good but maybe not as bulky. Did this ruin my jacket?
Hi, sounds like you did fine. I don't think leaving it in the water for a while would have done any damage. If the fill isn't 100% where you want it keep shaking the jacket out and you may find there is still a bit more drying out to be done.
I've washed it in the machine with another rain jacket and laundry detergent. After air drying, it looks ruined. Do I need to wash it again in the machine with liquid soap or can I put the dried jacket straight into the dryer? Or can I perhaps just dunk it in water to wet it before drying in the tumbler?
Hi, it depends on the type of wash you use. This wash from Grangers cleans and reproofs: www.littleadventureshop.co.uk/products/grangers-down-care-kit-300ml
Hi, I use the delicate cycle, and that has always cleaned the jackets fine… they’ve been grubby but not filthy. I would go with the most gentle cycle that you think will clean your jacket.
What do you do if you don't have a tumble dryer? I don't trust cleaning services since there are so few left and I can't find any in my area with high ratings. I'm on year 3 without any wash and it's deseperately needing it. I read someone using a hair dryer, but that must have taken hours, haha. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! 😊

As it gets dryer you'll probably want to shake the down around more regularly to break up the clumps of down. This method does work it just takes time a bit of persistence... I've personally never tried the hair dryer method, if you have a thin down jacket it might be worth giving it a go, however, if you have a thick one it's going to take a long time!!
@@LittleAdventureShop Thank you for the reply! We have a heated bathroom and I can regulate the temp. Plus good airing. Might work to just let it dry out there with the temp cranked a little. I'll make sure to shake it every 2h. If I do that with the hairdryer as well, I'll reply back if it worked or not! 🤣 Thanks once again! Hope you have a wonderful day 😊👌🏻

I'm not sure if that grangers detergent has fragrance and would be ok for eczema? I'm wondering if a small amount of my ecover zero liquid detergent would be okay and if air drying with a dehumidifier is an ok alternative to tumble drying.
Thanks for your comment, you can definitely skip the tumble dryer but you should give the jacket a good shake out every hour or so during the drying period to the down gets re-distributed. The Grangers down wash doesn't have any added fragrances, it's a very mild cleaner in comparison with "normal" washing products. That's why it's good for down. I don't know about the Ecover detergent, if you give it a go let me know how you get on!
@@LittleAdventureShop I went ahead and washed it with ecover. There are a lot of clumps. I imagine it will fluff up again as it dries if I massage/shake it? I'm not sure how long that'll take with the dehumudifier. I might have to borrow a tumble drier.
Hello. Super helpful video. The cost I need to wash has a fur trim. If I put that in a bag and tied it with elastic of you think it might come out ok? I am thinking that might keep most of the water out. Any thoughts really, appreciated 😊
Hi there, good question. To be honest I've only ever had coats with removable faux fur trim. But have a look at this article it looks pretty comprehensive: www.thespruce.com/how-to-clean-faux-fur-coats-2145795 If it's faux fur I think the washing part looks OK but you'll need to be careful drying it. Real fur is going to be more tricky, maybe try your plastic bag idea but I think the water will move up the fabric regardless of how tight you manage to tie the bag on. Let me know how you get on!
Great video , im.using a Samsung inverter dryer , it inly has a cotton or synthetic drying mode , it takes ages to dry our washing , tried 30 mins on synthetic , still really wet and felt, would you try the cotton setting
Hi, it does take quite a while to dry the down out - I'm not sure about cotton settings... I guess that is quite hot as you don't need to worry about cotton shrinking etc. I've had issues in the past with damaging the velcro patches on clothing by washing/drying them too hot, so I would be careful on the hotter settings.

Hi, I think ideally you wash one garment at a time. The issue is the arms knotting tightly together in the washing machine and damaging the down… the more arms the more chance of this happening!

Hi, I think mine was around 55°C
can you just fan dry it by hanging it instead of putting in dryer?
Hi, yes you can air dry it. It will take quite a while through (days). I would let your jacket drip dry from a hanger and then a couple of times a day redistribute the down by giving it a good shake. As it gets dryer you'll probably want to shake the down around more regularly to break up the clumps of down. This method does work it just takes time a bit of persistence...
Is a Down jacket is the sane as feather jacket ?
Hi, in terms of washing, down and feather can be treated the same.
Thank you, can i put two down jackets at the same time?
Hi, thanks for your question. I've tried washing a few down jackets at once but the arms of the jackets have all come out tightly twisted around each other and I worry that this can damage the down. I would probably wash a down jacket and down gillet (vest) together but otherwise (annoyingly) I would stick to washing jackets individually.
Thank you so mush I’ve been worrying about washing my jacket that is so expensive
So glad we could help!!
I live in Australia can I get this from my local supermarket like coles or Woolworths ?

Hi. I have 1 down feather jacket and 2 synthetic puffy jackets to wash (all adult), and a 10kg washing machine. Would it be too ambitious to wash them all together at once?
I probably wouldn't risk it. I would wash the two synthetics together and the down separately.
@@LittleAdventureShop thank you. That it exactly what I did 😅 I was so worried. I'm always worried I'll break my machine from the weight 🙈
Thanks Rebecca! Any tips if I don't have a tumble dry machine? -just the washer

Can you use dryer balls if you don't have the special balls or tennis balls?
Hi there, thanks for your message. Ideally you want to balls to have a bit of weight to them or be prickly so they bounce the jacket around a bit in the dryer. My dryer balls are really soft, light and smooth so I don't think they would be ideal. If your concerned just stop the dryer a few times and give your jacket a really good shake to move the down around.
What should you do if the down is still clumped together after using dryer
I would give it a really good shake and try drying it some more. It it's still clumping it may not be 100% dry.
Hi! How to wash columbia thermal omni heat jacket? Inside out?
Hi, I'm not that sure - but I doubt it matters. I would probably wash it the right way round as the outside of the jacket is probably more dirty than the inside.
My question is because I have a top loader washer. Could I just wash it by hand with the right detergent warm water squeeze it gently and put it in the dryer with the balls would that work?
Hi, you might want to let the jacket drip dry a bit to get more of the water out before putting in the dryer - but I don't see why it wouldn't work in theory.
Is there any way of washing without a tumble dryer?
Hi, yes you can air dry a down jacket. I'm planning on trying it very soon. From what I've heard it will take quite a while ( a few days). You'll want to hag it to drip dry first and then once it's not soaking wet keep going back to it a shaking up the down to make sure it doesn't clump.
*hang
You didnt specify which setting on the washer to use
How long wqs the wash cycle?
If you can get your hands on a can of scotchguard by 3m, easily weatherproof these in the uk.
Thanks, we'll have to give that a go.
Hi, thanks for this really useful video! Does this method work for puffer jackets that aren't natural down? Ie synthetic fillers?
Hi, with synthetic puffer jackets you don't need to be as careful with the drying process. You can just wash and hang them up to dry/ tumble dry/ air dry. Most synthetic insulation is a sheet sewn into the garment do it stays in place when you wash it and doesn't clump at one end of the baffle like down does.
@@LittleAdventureShop Thank you! I just bought one of those & was wondering also!

Hi - personally I would start again and rewash.
@@LittleAdventureShop I used laundry detergent and put it in dryer on extra low but it is all clumps.
Hi, can you please tell me what setting you use for the spin cycle? Should I use the most gentle/lowest setting?
Hi there, I use the gentle or sports wash 30 degree cycle - both see to work fine.
Does this work on a hoodrich stadium puffer jacket
If it is a down jacket it should work.
Do you have re treat with waterproofer after.

Hi there, is it OK to use a 'normal' setting in the washer, or should I set my wash cycle to delicate?
Hi, I use the delicate cycle, and that has always cleaned the jackets fine… they’ve been grubby but not filthy. I would go with the most gentle cycle that you think will clean your jacket.
Thanks very much.
Btw on the technical side of the video, I find the audio levels are bit low. I hope your later videos are having good audio gain!
Hi, thanks for the feedback.
Impressive Introduction ma'am 🌺
Thanks a lot 😊
What do you do if you don't have a tumble dryer? I don't trust cleaning services since there are so few left and I can't find any in my area with high ratings. I'm on year 3 without any wash and it's deseperately needing it. I read someone using a hair dryer, but that must have taken hours, haha. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! 😊

Thanks once again! Hope you have a wonderful day 😊👌🏻

May I ask if it’s ok to wash a few down jackets together in the washing machine?
Hi there, good question. The truth is we haven't tried washing a few jackets together. I'm thinking that the problem will be wet down getting twisted in the arms of jackets being washed together and this might damage the down. You certainly wouldn't want to put them in a tumble dryer together as jackets will twist together and restrict the movement of the down. Personally I probably wouldn't risk it...
@@LittleAdventureShop Thank you that makes a lot of sense!👍🏼
Thanks for the tips! Just wondering would it be ok to wash more than one jacket at a time? (Sorry silly question 😅)

@@LittleAdventureShop Thanks for your reply. I think I'll try the ecover detergent and use a relatively small amount.
@@LittleAdventureShop I went ahead and washed it with ecover. There are a lot of clumps. I imagine it will fluff up again as it dries if I massage/shake it? I'm not sure how long that'll take with the dehumudifier. I might have to borrow a tumble drier.
I got a fan on it now, so hopefully that helps.
@@mattlm64 How’s the drying going?
But have a look at this article it looks pretty comprehensive:
www.thespruce.com/how-to-clean-faux-fur-coats-2145795
If it's faux fur I think the washing part looks OK but you'll need to be careful drying it.

Can I put 2 adult down jacket at once, in washing machine? Thanks
Hi, I think ideally you wash one garment at a time. The issue is the arms knotting tightly together in the washing machine and damaging the down… the more arms the more chance of this happening!
But how would u wash a moose knuckles? Is it the same process?
Hi there, I'm not familiar with that brand but if the jacket is down filled and has no fur on it then yes this method should be fine.
