John McCaw nearly ruined our team by doing this.

Seems like all of the players other than Messier were saddened by the firing

Pat Quinn was a great GM. He made some mistakes (botched Gretzky signing, Messier, Drafts) but he is still loved, and will always be loved by Canucks fans!

Wasn't Quinn who let the Gretzky deal slip away. John McCaw and his Orca Bay cronies were the ones that gave ultimatum in middle of the night. Gretzky said himself recently on 1040 that if it was just him and Quinn in the room, he likely would have ended up a Canuck.

@@kulba21 Yep and after Gretz slipped away, ownership still wanted a big name and that's how they ended up with Messier. If it was just Quinn calling the shots, I doubt they would have signed an aging Messier.

The worst move in Vancouver Canucks history firing Pat Quinn I get it was a tough year 1997 season but to fire an icon like Pat Quinn who back in 1987 saved this franchise from leaving Vancouver back then where rumours about the state of the Canucks and about them leaving town for good at that time but then Canucks hired Pat Quinn. And in the 1988 draft the Canucks got the second overall pick and picked Trevor linden of the Medicine Hat tigers of the WHL and that is where it started the up hill clime of the Vancouver Canucks in the playoffs of 1989 against the Calgary flames they pushed Calgary flames to game 7 and they lost in a heart breaking fashion in overtime.and the rest is history during the Pat Quinn era was the most successful era in Canucks history through most of the 1990,s basically from 1989to1996 was a great time in Canucks history division titles and in 1994 game7 of the Stanley cup final where they lost 3 to 2 to the New York rangers so close to Stanley cup glory but by the 1997 season is where the wheels fell off for Vancouver Canucks that season was a tough one for the franchise where orca bay sports did the unthinkable and fire Pat Quinn. And witch was the beginning of Mike Keenan era witch was a very dark era for the Canucks and the rest is history in till Brian Burke took over in the 1999 draft is where the fortunes changed for Vancouver when Brian Burke maid a blockbuster trade on the draft floor to move up to picks Number 2 and 3 and selected the sedin twins and the rest is history.

Mark Messier orchestrated Quinn's demise here, plain and simple.

Messier pretty much owned and controlled the Canucks through those years

In hindsight, Orca Bay looked ridiculous for this. Especially with the Kennean, Messier fiasco in Vancouver.

And to think Mark & Mike reunited 3 years later after the Rangers won the Cup. In 94. Than comes coaching the Canucks in 97
