    I think it’s a work of genius because a it’s him saying hello to the fans and the stage (which is the I Am Singer stage where he competed in 2017 he has come back in 2018 as a guest performer on the finale) that made him a star. He truly cherishes his Chinese fans because they embraced him from the first performance and never let go. So, he’s literally saying hello to them. But, I truly believe that the subtext of this song is the ‘east saying hello to the west, and the west saying hello to the east’ and Dimash is an interpreter in the middle showing us how exquisitely beautiful things could be if we all came together as one in our world. My last point…this is the fastest I’ve ever seen him break character after any of his performances, and I believe that to be because these two messages so fundamentally explain who Dimash is as a human being. He believes these things to his core of his being, and lives it in his every day life. So, it was really easy for him to leave that character, because it wasn’t really a character, so much as it was just…him. I love your videos, Caleb. Thank You! A Canadian Dear 🦌🇨🇦💜🇰🇿

    thos run of the Middle East, this technique is a part of Traditional Middle Eastern music. such as Iran, turkey and the Arabic countries , in traditional Iranian music called tahrir and caused the breakdown and degeneration of sound in the throat, the singer of this broken voice repeats itself and rings it in different rhythms to make it a beautiful sound. This technique is extremely hard and requires a lot of training. That's why I'm very impressed when it's done by Dimash. This guy is really trying to make this sound It's not just talent, it's the result of many years of hard work, great reaction celab💟

      @@CalebColesMusic Thank you for your attention, as far as I know, there are twenty four different types of this technique in traditional Iranian music, which are in many subcategories, the kind that Dimas used in this song called up rising, he started repeating "o" with a low note, and then, with a repeat of the word "hello", with top note, excuse me, my English is not good, and explaining this is very difficult

    • @CalebColesMusic
      @CalebColesMusic  5 лет назад +9

      Your English is very good I can understand everything. That is very interesting to hear about the different techniques. We don't have any set techniques for runs like that in the west (although there are some common patterns and scales used, there is no convention around them).

    Dimash reinvents another classic! This is one of my Dimash favorites as well. Lionel R's version was on every radio station back in the day and we all became so saturated by that it became a virtual parody of itself. And then came Dimash. The arrangement for this song was by Dimash's friend Erlan Bekchurin -- who apparently knows how to hit all the right notes (pardon the pun). He also did arrangements for Dimash in the Singer 2017: “The Show Must Go On," “Adagio," "Daididau,” “All by Myself,” “Sunrise” (in Chinese; known to most of us as "Daybreak"), “Confessa + The Diva Dance,” “Umytylmas Kun (Unforgettable Day),” and “A Tribute to MJ.”
    That huge run Dimash does sends chills down my spine every time I listen to this, and I have the same near-teary eyes that I saw in you. This is a splendid tour-de-force by Dimash.
    And don't you love how he brings his audience into the song by using the Mandarin for "I love you" those couple of times? The kid really knows how to play to his fans! He even tosses in a bit of Kazakh at the end to remind people of his roots.
    Simply. Wow.

    Thank you so much for the detailed singer vocal analysis, and not just an OOH, AAH (which, of course, Dimash deserves too, hah) Another example of these Arabesque runs is in "Sinful Passion", where he does it much, much faster. As a layperson I keep trying to imagine what the vocal cords are doing through those runs ... are they going up and down, up and down? Whatever my self-analysis though, it fails miserably as I tend to sound like a warbling goat if I attempt replication.
    I'd love to see your analysis of the newer fancam of "Ogni Pietra". You can really see Dimash's mastery of embouchure and shaping the voice, given that the cam is centered on his face the entire song. His range continues to astound me!
    Also, love your version of SOS as well.
    Great channel!

    Thanks Caleb - awesome reaction & great analysis! I've always loved Lionel Ritchie's version but Di's version blows me away EVERY time! I know you said this is your favourite but I've said that too - until I hear the next one of his songs. He just keeps getting better!

    Those kinds of Arabic runs are so usual in Eastern (Asian) countries. You can hear such runs a lot in most of their songs and Dimash did it perfectly and powerfully. Very impressive. At first, I was thinking that no one is going to sing this song even close to Lionel Richie let alone better, but in my opinion this is not the Lionel's Hello cover! This is Dimash version of Hello! Completely different. Glad you liked it. :)

      Not eastern asian, but oriental countries, where KZ culture also very close. Shares common religion, where this rifs are used.

    Dimash, of Muslim roots, has introduced this music of Islam in two of his songs (possibly more). It is an eerie other-wordly sound to Western ears, and I thank him for bringing it to our attention.

    I thought you might be interested in some fun facts about this performance that I learned from other commenters, but I didn't see in the existing comments here. The flute is called a sybyzgy, a Kazakh (and Mongol) sideblown flute. Dimash sings I love you in three languages. First in English, then Mandarin (wo ai ni) in the middle and again at the end, then in Kazakh (men seni suyemin). At the very end, what he whispered was "thank you very much" in Mandarin.

    His vocal choices bring so much emotional impact. I think that's why, while I am always amazed by his vocal talents, I also can be brought to near tears by his performance. He's an incredible artist.
