took a fat ass shxt this morning.
heres what it taught me about b2b sales:
Bad thoughts out, good ideas in
🤣
I do find the backdrop to be relatable. It's like life.
Agreed! It’s comforting in a way!
@@Thenewboidahlia When I think of life I don't much think of comfort. It's chaos, pure beautiful utter madening chaos.
@@cookingwithsilence that’s valid as well!!
Yeah, there’s something nice about having a very normal backdrop of the clutter in someone’s garage when so many RUclips backdrops are eerily empty.
My boomer dad couldn't understand why me, at 40, didn't just "pound pavement" to find a new job. He also didn't believe that the internet was filled with scams and bs.
I found employment the only way you can these days. Through friends.
It is. My husband nearly got job scammed there but I know the signs, now he believes me
@@steffymuzeGlad it was only nearly! Those scams are truly horrible, really sucks how we have to be so careful when we’re just trying to find work.
Or by direct emailing bosses if you think your background fits.
I actually applied for a government job thru the USAjob website. A colleague told me no, that is a black hole from which no CV ever escapes, and just email a department head if your background fits that department.
I got hired by the department head, and 5 months into the job…got a form letter from USA job that I did not qualify for the position (which was completely wrong).
This was a while ago…but I suspect it’s still true.
He sounds like the kind of guy who gave money to a certain Nigerian prince
The only reason my application survived the recruiter for my current job was that my friend had recommended me and the hiring manager pulled it out of the metaphorical trash bin
I’m a stay at home dad. I live outside the realm of space and time at the moment. Love the show.
Shout out to stay at home dads!!
Been there for 10 long years and counting. Sometimes feels like I'm the kid in the void in Stephen King's The Jaunt, but in a positive way.
18:12 “there are people who already quietly quit” remember: quiet quitting is doing your job and then leaving work at work. Aka having normal, healthy boundaries between life and work.
I think if Harland ever cleans up his garage and has a normal clean backdrop setting like most RUclipsrs, a part of my soul will die
One of the weirdest american traditions is people aggressively supporting corporate exploitation and are anti worker rights. I said something in a comment about not making the minimum livable wage as a parent and multiple people were furious at me for dare complaining about the scraps im given.
It’s because they’re boot lickers who want to climb the corporate ladder in the vain hope of becoming the CEO. They don’t know the game is rigged and they’re pawns.
LinkedIn is the 10th circle of hell! And the devil definitely lives there!
One of the few perks of being an American teacher is that there was absolutely 0 need to have a LinkedIn or be social media-minded. It actually works in your favor to hide your social media as much as physically possible lmao
Having never used Linkedin I always just assumed it was like a job board, but the revelation that it's Facebook but shittier is truly head spinning.
It's bad. There are scams galore on it too.
I work for DoorDash and even for internal promotions they keep badgering me to create a profile. I haven't because I got this job without it.
The most toxic of anti-social media platforms.
I'm an Illustrator/Comic Artist with a BFA and I have been almost-scammed multiple times with LinkedIn and Indeed job listings for Illustrator roles for companies that straight up aren't hiring. I currently work a job not even remotely related to my degree, but it (barely) pays the bills. As someone who graduted into the middle of the pandemic (2021), it's just been an unreal experience of seeing all these things I was told in high school (I graduated in 2014) that are now just completely untrue and probably weren't even true when I was still there! And now I'm stuck with debt and no job opportunities to actually make a living. Unless I want to do a children's book for some schmup who's paying $5 per page lol.
Yeah when my partner was looking for a job at another care home because the one she was at treated the staff terribly she had a few issues with Indeed as well, it was extremely frustrating
Edit-i hope you manage to find what your looking for and get out from under your debt soon 👍
A CEO posting that he is hurt by laying people off is like a person who survived a plane crash telling victims families it was terrible for them to climb over the victims bodies.
Common sense says that is not the right way to deal with that, even if genuinely hurt by it.
Everybody from influencers to celebrities to regular working class people are selling out their morals and ethics every day because it's "good for my career" when so few of us stop to ask if it's good for our souls and communities. Then we wonder why we feel so isolated and angry when we can't look ourselves in the mirror.
Lol u finally address the background- i like it. Reminds me of a garage I would secretly smoke weed in or something
"LinkedInfluencer" fuck I hate that so much 😂
I like the door leaning on what ever it is in the back ground... It's taught me a lot about B2B sales.
I feel so embarrassed every time I go on LinkedIn. It’s demeaning
Literally the worst platform ever lmao
I'm so glad my career means I don't have to use it
Somehow it's even more brainrotting than any other social media platform without even a single shred of the perks of other platforms
Please never clean the garage. We need more door content.
New door lore just dropped
My company picked me to be a "thought leader" for our location. I was to attend a training where I would learn how to be one via finding my true purpose in life by seeking my "Ikigai" (because somehow my true purpose in life is tied to a corporation.) I agreed to at first, but as we got closer and closer to training time my conscience wouldn't stfu. I don't hate my job, but I feel invisible and unappreciated here. The only reason they picked me is because I'm one of the only employees here who are on that website (I was told this). Ultimately, I backed out. I can't go to bat for a company that couldn't even protect me when I went to HR about harassment, instead I was gaslit, or management who can't even be bothered to say thank you or recognize ANYTHING I do. I simply couldn't do it. My integrity wouldn't allow it.
You are so right about the fact that the platform only benefits a handful of industries. I have gotten several interviews via LinkedIn in the past, but most of them have been with tech companies that wasted my time with multiple phone interviews and full-day interviews in person with 3-5 different people only to tell me I lacked the necessary tech sales experience.
Dont forget you not only have to send your resume, but you have to retype everything on their form because nobody is looking at your resume that you uploaded on linkedin or indeed. On top of that, it’s insane how many reels and tiktoks I see of ppl that look at resumes for a living giving conflicting information on what the “best” resume looks like.
Edit: not to mention the “do’s and don’ts” of resume making are almost always related to how they look and the aesthetic of the resume rather than the experience on that resume or how to actually write your experience in a way that makes it sound great to employers.
Drives me insane. We have computers and the internet and it was easier to get a job when ads were placed in newspaper classifieds.
man, it's rare that i see a channel with such an amazing subscriber amount to video quality ratio...
entertaining, well edited, politically based. what a treat.
The founder of LinkedIn had an interview recently about political donations and it’s wild how CEO’s (not all, but most) sincerely believe that they are inherently more evolved than the rest of the public without considering all of the advantages (contacts, resources, family, timing…LUCK) that put them in that position. CEO’s are freaking out right now that Lina Khan might be at the FTC another 4 years should Harris win, and are trying to buy the option to persuade Harris to replace the current FTC head- which means Khan is effective and should be protected at all costs! Rarely do you hear one of them talk and think they are worth 20,000x’s more than the average worker, and often the main thing that qualifies them is their sociopathic tendencies.
Wild to learn that LinkedIn has influencer’s, I had no idea lol!
Lina Khan is a national treasure, she is doing an amazing job cracking down on the BS.
@@biteofdog couldn’t agree more! Considering how much her confirmation was slow walked as they were trying to reject her appointment, she has accomplished so much in a short amount of time- most of which isn’t widely reported.
I'm so glad that I deleted all of my social media accounts over the years (well, except tumblr but I don't really count that as social media) and I'm double thankful that I don't have need of a linkedin account - I got a new job coming up as a gardener in a former monestary. I'm pretty sure my boss would bury me beneath the apple trees if I asked her is she wants to start trying to get employees via linkedin 😂
Yeah I've never had the need to use linkedin and I feel grateful for that. I work in a very small bakery for a larger butcher though and so I don't think he would want my dead body for anything even if I mentioned getting employees through it 😂
Edit-otherwise I'd be pretty worried! Lol
Tumblr is the Luigi Wins by Doing Nothing of social media websites. It has managed to not self-sabotage quite as effectively as others, and there are ways to turn off some of the features that make it suck.
Happy I found you! Been job hunting for 6 months while rebuilding my personal business (helping leaders to be better humans) & facing eviction without knowing what will happen to my family next month...
I'm sad that so many are experiencing lives like this, or even worse.
I am pissed at CEOs & super rich people who honestly believe that they are better than other people because of money in their banks or assets they have due to not paying living wages or Healthcare to those who generate their profits.
And... we all deserve better!
To all reading this, you are amazing, brilliant, talented, & a gift in this world! (Unless your one of the people I described in the paragraph above💁🏾♀️)
💜🙌🏾🌈✊🏾🌍
All of the best for your job hunt and to your family! Every industry right now needs people that are rightfully mad at how these systems are set up, that frustration is the only way we’re going to get things to change. I’m rooting for you!
@@aliencafe thank you! I hope all is wonderful with you & yours, & only gets better!
💜🙌🏾🌈✊🏾🌍
I love the door in the background. In fact this might be my favorite youtube background ever. It's giving "I have better things to do than clean my garage"😆
"self inflicted internship," lmao
Just at the point the third reference to Shrek comes through and I think to myself “Wow… there’s really something going on there”, the man calls it out in a level of self-awareness that outright made me double over from laughter.
Kudos to you, your rants, and your ability to structure a joke.
I only just realized you broke 10k, congrats that's amazing and you've more than earned it. I think I joined around 2.5k after the addictions video. Can't wait to see what comes next!
I used to be the social media manager for a non profit and I had to post on Linked In the most because one board member thought it was the best and no one else cared/had any idea. I hated it
linkedinlunatics is like a tradwife job audition to no one
the circle jerk elephant sound effect cracked me up so good
i hate a lot of things about my field, but i've never had to open a linked-in and for that i am grateful
Just came across your channel and binge watched all your videos, I have been putting off making my own videos for years, today I wrote an article and posted it because your garage background inspired me. Your takes are also so mature!
In my experience it's boomer HR and PR types that think LI is the answer to every question.
The type that need a new email every week because they click everything and keep overloading the servers with spam they let through the filters.
how do you only have 12k subs? this is high quality video essay shit. Also, what other channel has a door propped against the wall?
I have a linkedin but I honestly never use it. I’ve noticed bizarre corporate culture too. Sigh.
Your background is about as real as real gets. The content is well written, and the delivery is engaging: and that's all that matters. Paint it green. A few might wonder what's "Behind the Green Door"...
Damn, I was sure “paint points” was going to be on the corporate jargon list lol
If Krabby O'Mondays started a social network
proud to say i’ve never had a linkedin account! and great video harland, as per usual. cant wait to think back on this when my brain is being taken over by evil robot CEOs.
New sub. Don’t fix the garage. It looks absolutely perfect the way it is. It’s got character, by god.
imagine revolving your identity and life around work
It is certainly true that part of the reason I've started to comment more aggressively is the vain hope that I might funnel more people to my new channel. My typical RUclips comment would DEFINITELY not be welcome on LinkedIn though. Cuz you know. I'm basically a baby Anarchist with a RUclips channel? Can't even be bothered to pretend about this corporate bullshit anymore. People gotta go WAY beyond the notion that just "quitting without notice" is somehow sticking it to the man or something. We gotta organize y'all. It's the only way we can truly exert influence on the system, and that's precisely why cops exist to stop us from really exerting that influence.
I’ve never been on LinkedIn. Kinda wanna create like 20 accounts and see how well each one does to discover the secrets behind the algorithms. But, I’m smart enough to create 20 accounts; I’m not smart enough to manage all of them. And I don’t know how I would manage and evaluate the raw data.
Lovin this Chris Pines look you're rockin
Commenting to boost engagement for the algorithm feels like the antithesis of this video lmao
preach my dude.
I wish I had something to contribute on the topic of the video but I've never actually used linkedin. It was incredibly interesting getting a peek inside of that mad little world. As always, your content is wonderfully mentally stimulating, excellent comedy, and I can't wait to see how far you go. To the moon, Harland! To the moon!
What worries me the most is thinking about what life will be like in 20 years, looking back at today. What will we be thinking?
A. Times are way better now that [insert LinkedIn successor's name] exists. The 2020s were the bad old days.
B. Times are way worse now that [insert LinkedIn successor's name] exists. The 2020s were the good old days.
C. LinkedIn is still the biggest game in town and nothing has changed since the 2020s. Somebody should do something about this.
Let's be honest. It's almost certainly not going to be choice A.
Lol, "pity city"
This essay articulates and validates every uneasy feeling I've had for LinkedIn ever since I reluctantly joined this year. Thank you.
Also, I wanted to let you know in advance that I plan on sharing this video, on LinkedIn, and making one of those cringe speeches. I'm sorry.
Oh! Oh! So I am apart of a Facebook group, and it was called 'Goodwill shaming' we sort of fell into a shitposting group, where we barely posted goodwill shames...and more like feet, and other weird stuff... soooo we started getting some people noticing, like every day... and 2 weeks ago? The group got a sort of cease and desist from a LinkedIn lawyer representing goodwill. Lolol so the group was temporarily gone for a little, buuuut after some toe to toeing with this "lawyer" we got our group back, changed the name to thriftstore shaming and we are back at feet posting again baybay! The funny thing is I think this group gave me a foot fetish. Love your videos as usual. Wish you could cover that group because it is a ride.
I refuse to believe that the background is real. It's so surreal, disorienting and full of awe.
To be fair, I'm a millennial tech nerd and I can't even update a printer driver... BTW keep up the good work. Just discovered your channel and it's great!
All I got from LinkedIn in was hundreds of spam. Boomers taught people how to update their printer drivers. Computers have been around for way longer than Millenials and GenZ seem to think. It’s pretty weird actually.
That was me with the hockey stick
LinkedIn decay accelerated when they were bought by Microsoft, one of the changes was that user generated articles stopped being promoted or appearing on the feed. And it started copying FB by adding crappy posts... From that point on anyone with experience that used to blog in the platform just disappeared.
The backdrop is honestly a draw. Almost looks like a set meant to convey the chaos of trying to get a video essay done and/or the chaos and absurdity of the subject being discussed. I love it.
"..and boomers who don't know how to update their printer drivers." As someone who's been tech support for half the family for over two decades, I got a good chuckle out of this one.
LPT: Never tell anyone that you're 'good with computers.'
just found your vids through this video, huge fan! :}
To be fair that one guy grinding $60k+ from nothing in ten months is respectable, bummer that he was too out of touch to be able to actually learn anything from the experience
Yes. LinkedIn is definitely super weird. Especially women in LinkedIn. They got stuck on corporate speak. It’s super weird.
Great video! It makes me feel a little less bad about never using LinkedIn even though my capstone class as an undergrad told me to!
I live outside of time and space and all my doors are set at a 30° angle.
Corporate jargon sounds like an AI trying to figure out how humans talk to each other lol
Blind allegiance to corporate life... so true
LinkedIn feels like a support group for people who possess an amazing insight and grasp on anything obvious.
watching this at my workplace that i got thru a friend after about 6 months straight of seeking employment in 'more accessible workplaces/jobs' than animation lmfao
I am looking for a a job for almost 6 months. I am employed but it is temp work. The insanity of having to send hundred applications for a position I know I am qualified for is just... insane.
Last time I thought what's wrong with the door
my favorite yaptuber updated. time to sit and behold The Yapping.
EVERYONE CONSIDER SCRIBING!
I wish LinkedIn was the way you described it. Feels to me that the lines between LI and FB has blurred. I liked the old days when I saw fewer posts and cheeseball crap.
LinkedIn has always given me anxiety. I left the corporate world about five years and now I avoid LinkedIn like he plague. IMO it's just icky.
i'm old enough to have never needed Linkedin to get a job. thank f.
Enjoy your vacation! Narnia door will miss you, just chillin in the garage
Hey look at it this way, if this Channel takes off, your early Subscribers will refer to 'The Door' or 'Doorgate' and your later Subscribers will have no idea what the hell they're talkin' about.
I'm the demon. I deactivated that 💩 awhile ago, the Uncanny Valley was too much and frankly, I despised it. No regrets.
Kudos sir!
Dutiful and grateful intern here, commenting as instructed, though I still have no idea what B2B sales are, and thus fear I've learned nothing.
feeling #hopeless about entering corporate america
😂 I seriously don’t know where all these “tick tock influencers” are because my fyp feed is full of funny cat videos, diy ideas, sports fails, recipes, craft ideas, and professional outdoor shots! I think the algorithm knows I really don’t care about influencer culture! But I also don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account so I’m not interested in idiots or their small lives anyway. I have my own problems I really don’t have the energy to worry about someone else’s 😂😂😂
Idk as an engineer, LinkedIn is pretty significant and helpful.
Because you have a real job. Various middle managers and CEOs are strictly speaking aren’t necessary, and they are the ones posting.
Does your sad door have a name?
It's literally me
But do you want to earn some real income with 0 experience and work part time? Lol
SF doors bring the chaos.
I’m outa work and never go on LinkedIn or any other social media for the most part. I just thought I was lazy. Turns out not only am I lazy but obviously have a built in superpower to avoid superficial bullshit
Wait……
What am I doing here then?…..
Well said, I never thought of LI like the waste of time it is. And it constantly sends spam!
Arguably the most cathartic video I've seen in ages as I was worried that I was one of like 5 people using the site who didn't have advance capitalism brainrot.
Spamming a resume is a waste of time. Focus on a few jobs you actually want and qualify for, find a way to communicate that to the decision maker. This could be a mailed resume with a cover letter that is specific to this job. A lot of work, but it communicates that you are not just spamming for work, that this job in particular is something you are interested in.
You're awesome -- have an amazing boys' trip!!
More like dis-door-ienting
This channel and Horses' channel have really been scratching the itches on 2 opposite but related sides of my mind lately.
I'm glad i'm a neet, on veterinarians comp.
Moya new favorite channel
Really like this kinda content, it reminds me of the cool older coworker that goes off on how shitty his boss and the system is. Hope I can be that for gen alpha one day
I actively try to radicalize my gen z coworkers, so you’re not far off.
Man, Harland's turning into a thought leader. Let's circle back to that.
For those of us who are exactly what you are exposing there is really no other place to go in the social media space. Where do selfish, narcissistic people go?
20:54 lol true
