One thing I will say about SF4 is that it catered to individuality. Three pros could play the same character and we could get 3 different play styles of said character. I feel like that has lessened over time

But the reason for that is not what you think. The biggest reason everyone plays the same in 5 and 6 is because of the CFN. Every match goes to the cloud, and you can watch every top player's matches, as well as turn on their inputs. You can see their tech and option selects. Combine that with twitch, Twitter, and RUclips, and big prize money, and the games become optimized almost over night. Do not make the mistake of thinking that SF4 doesn't have an optimal way to play it. If it had a million dollar CPT prize and a CFN on par with SF6, you would see everyone playing these characters the same way too.
@@CallsignJoNay Not really because sometimes having different playstyles is not always about being suboptimal. For example, Infiltration akuma vs Tokido akuma. Same character, totally different styles, both equally valid.
@warezpl0 Valid is not the same as optimal. The reason why SF4 looks so diverse and interesting is the same reason that old black and white sports replays look so interesting and unique compared to modern day sports that are optimized and homogenous. Nobody knew what was optimal in the SF4 era, so they just made up their own valid, yet suboptimal, play styles.
@@CallsignJoNay If both are valid how do you know which is optimal. Logically tokido's akuma was "optimal" but infiltration was the one who won evo with akuma. If the game is open there is no such thing as optimal, because multiple playstyles are rewarded, and what comes out on top is the player not the character. That is my point. People very much knew what optimal was in sf4 era. Option selects and hard knockdown vortexes made it very obvious what the optimal play is. To such a degree that option selects were removed since sfv removal of jump back tech (Yes there are still some option selects but it's nothing compared to something like momochi tech or proximity option selects for example). People knew what is optimal but it was hard to do. That's also why pr rog's balrog was so amazing, there are 1 frame links everywhere. Now everyone can do most combos so there is no consideration on this point. Just because pros knew what optimal was doesn't mean they would go for it in every situation / or would have the execution to do it.
I've been watching Smug's videos for years, to the point where even my partner will watch with me, and she is the most casual gamer. Appreciate the video as always, keep up the great work!

Nearly Everything in this game is just perfect . The satisfying sound of the hits , the sound of the throw tech and the amount the tech pushes you back to reset neutral .
I believe if they rereleased this with roll back net code ( although I rarely had connection problems ) it would be the main game again . Because lights and mediums link so well The combo routes are endless . I will never understand why following games would not allow 2 or 3 crouching jabs or shorts or mediums into a link to not combo , it just makes most bread and butters all the same .
Because of the frame data, Capcom Will need to make medium attacks 3 or 4 frames, street 5 and 6 dont have proximity normals to increase the speed of reaction and to balance the long and close range attacks ex: Sakura have a 3 frame heavy attack is broken but is jailed in a proximity normal.

@@Jonathaneve5This is the one narrative that I wish would die for good. Like somehow playing pad is so impressive or that you are somehow at a disadvantage vs someone on stick. It used to be like back then too lol.

@Jonathaneve5 I'm sorry but no it isn't. It was only like that in the beginning, but that was true for EVERYONE (stick and pad players). I remember always getting praised for hitting them without plinking and people being like....omg dude you're on pad! I always hated that because it sounded, was, and still is a very stupid thing to say imo. People were always over exaggerating it. I have beaten TONS of stick players that felt some type of way when they lost to me. As if I beat them with a handicap because I was on pad, which again, is very dumb to me. That's why I was so glad when folks like Smug and some others came along to show folks the truth. I gained Fei Long, Gen, Rose, and Hakan, though I played most of the cast.
I see all this sophisticated button presses I just smash all the buttons till the controller breaks. LOL 😂😂

This is the difference with 4. I can watch pros and be in awe of the things they do because i cant knowing how hard it is. In 6 i feel i can do anything the pros do. Theres nothing jawdropping about it watching or playing it. That cr.HP counter hit into ultra was amazing and difficult as hell.

@Str8Rippin93 yep. It was like watching pro athletes. If you played sf4 you knew how hard those were to pull just once in practice mode let alone consistently in high pressure tournaments as you stated. 5 and 6 just made me feel like nothing was impossible. I could do what they do because i have.
Elena is not the real pb on this game nor are the unblockable, the real pb is the netcode !! If SF4 one day will have rollback will be day 1 I return to it.

1.Mah boi Urien and C.Viper aren't in SF6.
2.We got Ed and Elena before Balrog.
3.Modern controls in ranked.
4.Severely lacking costumes.
5.Drive System needs to be fixed.
6.Rashid Lvl 2.
7.They made Zangief harder to play.
8.Matchmaking stalls my Pause Menu button.
9.Chun Li and Cammy's curves are nerfed.
10. Mai's cleavage is too covered up.
11.Terry looks like a 40 yr old tryna be hip.
12.Reaching Master rank is very easy.
13.MR points reward in Ranked is shitty.
14.Lvl 3 does too much damage for these fg mechanics.
15. Zoning in SF6 is Sagat SFV level annoying.
