Climbing the tower on the way to fight Hyperion, with the organ music getting louder and more ominous, and then arriving to where the fight takes place is an amazing setup to hands down the most beautiful fight in the game. 100% agree with you here.

Getting to the bosses so much harder than beating them. Severed, Automaton and malformed versions of other enemies honestly harder to deal with. Not to mention the drones. Those things killed me so many times.
For me the worst was 1 biome, I have died many times. Alien with red bullets and thoese trees were insane. My health bar was small and there was not to much health to recover. At second bime I have died 4 times. And in third I only die two time only on boss. I took wrong gun. After I kill 3 boss I have compleeted game in one run and do not even use astronaut or reconstructor also this electro gun is OP

so interesting to hear other people’s experiences. i thought boss 4 was by far the hardest one, but also my favorite one. climbing the mountain with the music building will always and forever be one of my most memorable gaming experiences

Electropylone gun makes it a push over
They're all pretty straightforward, but I think the 3rd one is the hardest. The second phase of that boss can deal a lot of damage with the awkward timing of those yellow beams and having the wrong weapon can really screw up the fight.
So far it was the easiest one, I just used 2 big med kits, and killed it second try
Ixion was definitely my hardest too cause he required the most repositioning and had a relatively tight arena
It's crazy how different everyone's experiences with the bosses are. For me, ixion and ophion were the only bosses that I beat on my first try. I beat hyperion on my second try, but with barely any health left. And yeah, the build up and atmosphere of hyperion's fight is just on another level compared to the other bosses.
Excellent review. It’s crazy how similar our experiences were in the game. It took me a good portion of the game to realize how much I needed to explore and beef up Selene. It’s also crazy to see how much better you get at the game over time. Now that I’ve beaten it, I go into rooms feeling more of a badass and less of a timid player. Very cool video. Loved the commentary

Ixion stood out as the most difficult. All the rest could be in any order. Ixion's 3rd phase felt so much more difficult than his first 2 that had some similar patterns you could get used to. Coupled with the tight fight area and his movement. Beating him felt like more of a grind because I had to really scavenge Biome 1 and 2 to max Selene out before taking him on. I think when I finally beat him I went in with a large silphium vial, 2 smaller ones, a parasite that grants an extra life and an astronaut figure just t make sure.
Also the first time you fight him you have very limited weapons. No Rotgland Lobber and no Electropylon Driver. I think the best gun you have at that point is the hollowseeker but it’s low level so no cool traits like void beam or void turret. He is the boss that almost made me quit the game, after failing like 7-8 times I beat him in co-op. The rest of the game I got through pretty well. Trying to get the platinum now but Crimson Wastes won’t give me the Ciphers which is annoying. From act 1 I have the survey for the ruins and the tower. Seems like the wastes have the most variety of maps so it’s hard to get all the rooms.
I do not understand How this Ixion Boss is harder than Nemesis. I never have an issue with this one. Just so ya know, I just got Returnal and have been playing for about a week now. It took me a bit to get everything ready and beat the first boss, but after I finally succeeded in beating him, I just plowed through the crimson wastes. No deaths not even to the boss. However, Biome 3 and Nemesis were my bane for a few days. I finally beat Nemesis last night. took me 4 tries. ugh lol. Ixion can be a little overwhelming with how fast he moves, but I Felt he was a lot more easier to dodge literally everything he throws at you.

Tbh Ixion not that difficult have good hollow seeker and just be on point with dodges and how you read the pattern he shots out. 3rd phase not that bad just keep distanceand jump and done away from him when he trys take swipe at you...
I died so much in the tutorial boss i feel like im going to populate the whole planet with dead bodies lol

Malformed Typhonops is harder than some of these bosses. There's a reason you'll never fight 2 of these guys at once.
Phrike was definitely the hardest for me all others were really easy imo. Nemesis , hyperion and ophion I smashed. Ixion I won on first attempt with only 1 percent integrity left lol
I couldn't agree more it took me weeks to kill phrike then I beat the game a little over a week later
Nemesis was hardest for me because you had to grind out biome 1 and 2 to take enough upgrades in to fight him. I lost to him 3 times because I went in under prepared. I beat biome 2 boss first try with very little upgrades. Think I got a bit lucky with my dodges. Great game tho
I actually melted hyperion 1st try with no continues and rotgland. Rotgland is aammaazzinnggg
Phrike definitely is the easiest boss, but I think it was the one I died the most to for the reasons you mentioned - I was scared shitless seeing him and really had no clue how the game worked at that point, so it was hard to breathe and focus. The game really does teach you to think smarter through play.
I think Hyperion is the easiest
Everyone seems to have a different experience with this game. I struggled immensely with Biome 1, and Phrike was tough for me. I spent more time in the game prior to beating Phrike than the entire rest of the game combined. Hyperion was the other big sticking point, but the rest of the bosses I beat on my first or second try. I'm always shocked to hear people talk about how hard a time they had with Biome 3 because I played all the way through it on my first try, and didn't even find it that hard on Act III. I hope if Housemarque makes any kind of successor to this game they find some ways to balance the difficulty a bit more across the experience. It did feel good to get better at it, but the first Biome was so hard for me I almost had to put the game down and the finale was a bit underwhelming in comparison.
That’s the beauty of pylon.. shoot everywhere and it’ll do damage! I also used that for the second half of the game, made all enemies really easy
The real bosses in this game are those goddamn drones. They've killed so many solid runs.
Facts I just beat the game today and those drones almost made me quit this game
I found Nemesis remarkably easy tbh, you're invulnerable during grappling and you're doing it a lot so I took barely any damage. In the third phase you get up close and personal and for some reason the minions don't target you and you just have to dodge the 'bullet hell' until he blows you back again.

I'd absolutely agree with your list. 2nd boss caused me the most stress. I was screaming at the TV when I finally beat it. Final boss is easy once you have the electropylon driver. I've tried other weapons on it and got beaten up badly.
I found it really funny than I was able to defeat both Ixion and Nemesis in on the same run and first try, only to be killed when reaching the echoing wastes by a parasite that I forgot to read properly, that immediately got triggered and killed me. This game has been consuming my time and thoughts lately, it is such an amazing experience.
You are right. That Hyperion fight was so fun.
The Electropylon Driver is a great weapon however when fighting Nemesis (3rd biome) boss I couldn’t beat him because his hit location didn’t allow for those beams to damage him. The Rotgland Lobber makes short work of most of the bosses.also the 3rd phase is so fun, you can’t really die by falling.
I also 100% agree that Axion that is the hardest. It also doesn’t help the first time you fight him you don’t have any good guns unlocked. Also that 2nd biome sucks for finding the Ciphers, for the survey it’s the trophy with the lowest completion rate.
So cool to find videos about ranked returnal! I sorta agree with this list and I sorta don't. I think in my case I'd rank these bosses throughout my entire playtime, because of the experience you get throughout the journey teaches you a lot.
5. Ophion. Never lost to it, easy to figure out what to do and how to avoid the patterns since they're relatively slow, and you're always overprepared if you've gone for the whole run. That, or you have the Electropylon Driver unlocked ... or both lmao.
4. Hyperion. Big agree. Quite a bit harder, almost got me once, but I've never lost to Hyperion either. Was close to put Hyperion as number 3 just because of the lead-up to the fight. It's so epic, and Hyperion is easily my favourite boss in the game. Easily. And that's saying a lot imo, because all the bosses are just really fun and/or epic.
3. Nemesis. Never lost to Nemesis either, but it's still a tanky boss, the soundtrack is so sick, and the fight is incredibly theatrical, fun and VERY unique. And most importantly, the bullet hell is VERY bullet helly. Now before you say you've noticed a pattern in the way I list the bosses...
2. Phrike. I've died to this boss more than any other, and I've lost more times than I've won against it. The patterns took forever for me to learn and remember, and I was stuck on Act 1-1 for the longest time. For the first many hours, the fight felt nerve wrecking. When I finally beat it, I was on the edge of my seat, and with critical HP. And it just made me fear what was to come, since I went in blind. It was so sick.
1. Ixion. Large agree. The switch-up from Phrike here, hit me directly. Like I felt like I was hurt by Ixion. The fight is SO awesome, but for a long time, I was never prepared for anything Ixion did. Even with a good build and healing items on standby, Ixion was melting me. Such a great boss fight, and it still very much is.
All of this said though, most malformed minibosses, automatons, severed and turrets will end my run more often than any of these bosses could ever dream of doing.
I did Ixion first time, i guess it depends how buffed you are and what weapon you have
This is the EXACT same order I would have made, that’s awesome. For anyone having trouble on Ophion though, go into that battle with the Doombringer alt-fire. It will take down around half a health bar per shot, at least, if fired timely.
I beat Phrike on my first try but I'm stuck on phase 3 of Ixion. I always die through his melee attacks and I never manage to find an astronaut.
Phrike is giving me major issues. I can’t even get past him after numerous attempts. I guess I need to work on getting beefed up.😀 Cool video though.🤟🏾
I first tried all the bosses except nemisis that guy was my demon.
My runs got much better when I mapped dash to R3. Not sure if anyone has done that. But being able to dash without taking your thumb off the stick is great

Ixion is the only boss I think twice about doing on “just for fun” runs. Not even the electropylon driver eases me up. Always makes me work for the win lol

I wish I was as good at this game as you are then. I have only beat the first boss and I was fighting the Sentinel in Crimson waste land and I thought that was the boss LOL I am getting progressively better though and it’s such a joy to play. I can’t wait to get the grappling hook.
Late to the party, I played this on PC . Agree on Ixion. Gave me the most hard time out of all bosses.
Ixion, nemesis and ophion were the only bosses i did beat 1st try and i don't know how, the one who gave me the worst time was phrike because it was the first boss so i had no experience but for the most part i struggled the most against normal enemies rather than bosses
For me, the easiest was the last boss! My battles with all of the other bosses was pretty dramatic, ended up with low health, almost dead. Great video!
I agree he was easy as hell. My problem was getting to him with full health and having a good gun to battle him with. Which is hard because the underwater sections are a bitch!
The first boss was the hardest for me, I was underpowered and new in the game. I defeated him after five or six attempts. Ixion was relatively manageable as I only fell once to him! After Ixion, I one shotted the third and fourth biomes and their respective bosses in their entirety and in one go.
And then came that freaking room!! You all know which one I'm talking about and on top of that, we had to get all the Hadal keys in one go. After that, no sweat!
You have to differentiate between real difficulty and how difficult the boss was for the player at the according stage of the game. I still have to beat Ophion (only got to him once with minimal health) - but besides that, I'm pretty sure I would beat Phrike now easily. However, when I had to beat him for the first time, it took me 10+ attempts. More than ANY other boss. I beat Ixion at ... fourth attempt? Nemesis at second attempt. And Hyperion at first attempt. So if I'd use the amount of attempts, I'd say Phrike is the hardest and the bosses got easier every time. However, that's not the case. If you managed to even get to Nemesis, you're trained A LOT more (Biome 3 is evil!) than you were at earlier bosses. And Hyperion has the advantage, that you can get to him a lot easier, because you can always restart at Biome 4 and quickly learn the challenges of this Biome without running through a ton of other Biomes. By the way ... if I had to rank Biomes i'd say Biome 3 - most difficult - followed by Biome 5, Biome 6, then Biome 4, Biome 1 and Biome 2.
Nemesis was easily the hardest. One shotted biome 2, 4, 5 and 6. TBH, once I got Hardened Rounds and Leech for the carbine, the game became trivial. Ophion literally took less than 2min and didn't even see most of the final boss attack patterns. OP gun
Having to adjust your hand to be able to move the camera is the game's fault for putting dodge on circle! First thing I did was move it to R1, so I could move the camera while dodging as well.

Hyperion is my favourite boss, but also the easiest in my opinion. I agree Ixion is by far the hardest boss in the game.
Honestly thought Phrike was the hardest but I guess I was still learning to play

@@esper6940 idk they are a bit more intense the first three, especially aixon and nemesis. Phylax took me a suspiciously long time to beat. Hyperion and oyphren weren't as intense as 2 and 3.
I thought my game was glitched on boss 6 lol. At the time I didn’t know you had to hit the red things, I turned off my ps5 thinking the game was glitched lol
You can take revenge with a carbine with the Rising Pitch trait. It's very easy to demolish the weak points with that. He won't survive long.

I honestly think the two hardest bosses in the game are the 2nd boss FOLLOWED by the first boss.
3-5 are all way easier than Phrike to me.
@@SteveRudzinski the only boss that I killed on my first try was boss 4.. I just beat Biome 5 but it took me a very long time.. I thought it was very difficult.. I love this game.

I haven’t fought Ophion yet, but I agree that Ixion is the hardest so far.
For me 1, 4 and 6 kinda on the same lvl to me, 3, and then 2 for some reason gave me the most trouble. His 1st two phases are a joke, but those melees he be doing was messing me up a few times.

To me for some reason 2nd was the hardest, 3rd took 2 tries, 4th got it first try and the last 2 was straight forward what you gotta do.
I think Hyperion is probably the most difficult for me. I expected it to be more of a close quarters fight, but he has an attack that can really mess you up if you go close. I've probably struggled the most against Hyperion and Phrike. I've yet to die against bosses 3 or 6. I think I'm around 5 of 5 against each. I would lose if I tried to use the pistol or Spitmaw and TRIED to lose I guess, but they just aren't very difficult compared to other enemies. My favorite is probably the boss of the second biome, which is also my favorite area. The battle is a spectacle to behold, and he puts up a pretty decent fight in the last phase.

Phrike (partially due to your gear at this point being awful; otherwise I would probably bump him down one spot)
Ixion
Nemesis (the first time I beat Ixion I went on to clear biome 3 and kill Nemesis on 1st try)
Ophion
idk why but i mostly beat the bosses first try, i only die on hyperion bcs my gun was suck. Well i mostly fight with pistol other bosses too so thats was took lil bit time even the nemesis i thought im gonna die but nah somehow i didnt
First 2 bosses were hard for me. I never fought Phrike or Ixion again after beating those biomes. I beat Nemesis the most I would take out my anger on him when I was frustrated about not being able to find the cyphers on my road to platinum. I definitely agree with you about Ixion. Till this day I can't believe I beat him. I got lucky. My ammo was causing him damage over time, he died before I did. But Ixion and Phrike are the only bosses thar I'm still petrified of. Fortunately didn't have any need to fight them again so they are just a frightening memory like the bogeyman 😂
I beat every boss first try except ixion and nemesis which both were second attempts
The game to me was, came for a challange stayed for the lore
For me, the hardest was Nemesis, followed by Ophion, Ixion (what was the most fun for me cause it emulated fighting ridley in metroid prime), hyperion and the phrike.
Beat this game past week, and to me Hyperion was definitely the hardest as there are so many object flying about!
Ophion and Ixion were surprisingly easy, but Ixion only because I had a good build.
Nemesis was very fun and a pretty difficult, just like Phrike on my first encounter.
On a rerun I ran with Dreadbound for a full act 1 run.. and boy, that weapon is extremely bad against Nemesis phase 3!

Ixion also 2 attempts
Nemesis 1 attempt ( i was shocked considering this was the hardest from what I have heard)
Hyperion around 5-6 attempts. Def the hardest boss for me. The crazy bullet hell really did a number on me for this one.

To me Phrike was the toughest boss, cuz the game's mechanics are still fresh (even after 10 hours of play lol) and because my way to him took so long, the tension that built up to this point was insane. Died the most times and barely beat him after several tries.
The 2nd boss was also tough. He has that one move especially, where he kinda disappears by flying high above the ground and then comes in. You can see him coming if you're lucky, but 99% of the time I was just trying to figure out where he was, spinning the camera around like crazy and I would always miss him.
Weirdly enough after that I managed to beat bosses 3-5 first try! But I agree, I got by the last boss mainly on the strength of my stats😅 Watching your video I realize I stood wayyyy tooo close to him, that's why I had trouble reading his attacks and got surprised many times that a laser ring came in from off screen😅😅
oh and Nemesis: I didn't know where to shoot at, but luckily I had the trackerswarm alt-fire. once I fired that, I could easily see where the projectiles went!👐🙌 also only on my 3rd runthrough have I realized that you can actually shoot down those minion suckers that shoot those yellow lasers at you!!
That’s how I rank mine as well phrike and xzion were the two hardest for me
I would say the for me the hardest was Ixion or Nemesis, although my favorite fight was definitely Hyperion who also might’ve been the easiest one considering he was relatively stationary the whole fight and I I had a great weapon
Nice vid 🙂 Need to sat that hallow seeker is the worst gun for Nemesis. On my first attempt I have used Rotgland and it was absolutely super easy fight. I even didnt use sylphion pot on it. Only Ophion was much easier with dreadbound.
Not to flex or anything but I got through the whole game with the hollowseeker lol. Beat all the bosses with it. Took forever on Ophion.
Just beat 3rd boss pretty fucking stoked
The only boss I've died to is my first run in with Phrike, which is pronounced Freaky by the way. After that initial run/death, I've been able to get through all the bosses fairly comfortably. If I had to say one that's the most difficult, maybe Nemesis? I think I took the most damage against him.
Phrike isn't a tutorial boss. It's a actual boss
"Actually" lol moreso tutorial in spirit. A lot of ppl refer to it as tutorial so im relaying the message
@@Ericutz4thewin the "tutorial boss" is the first huge tentacle monster u encounter in the opening, where many die, or that's what one of Housemarque's executive told me. So I trust the creators of the game more than anyone else 😁✌
@@shadowtom6457 I don't consider that enemy to be a tutorial boss, because it isn't a boss at all. It's an enemy that only melees, a medium healthbar, and only one at that. Its just a more powerful verison of a future enemy you find later, and its supposed to teach you that you are supposed to die, which isn't exactly a tutorial
Agree...sorta, but switch Nemesis and Ixion
Between Biome 3 and then fighting Nemesis it was pure PAIN, especially the very last lockdown right before Nemesis 😤

2. Ixion

Once I beat Nemesis everything in the game was easy for me. I can pretty much beat everybody in one go now lol. Also I follow you on Twitter and for some reason didn't know you had a RUclips channel lol.
Weirdly enough, I play a lot of Monster Hunter games (like +2000 hours) and I got this game and manage to kill all bosses on my first attempt. My deaths mostly came from locked zones and poor navigation (holes, traps, getting surrounded). Finished the game with 13 deaths (8 from learning zone one, before understanding how to boost your HP bar), 18 death total at ACT 3. Now I'm gathering the stuff I missed for the platinum and since I'm skipping a lot of rooms, I'm always under leveled and the game is brutal when you don't explore as much.
Best game of 2021 for me.
Phrike was easiest the Hardest boss to me!. i needed like 10-20 times to defeat. Ixion 2x. Nemesis first try, Hyperion first try. Ophian second try

Beef up your health in biome 1 and 2. Biome 2 desert is good to farm. Go into biome 3 with at least 2 health bars. It takes time but worth it! Hopefully you can get a Hollowseeker. That weapon was my fave and helped me a lot. good luck!! Biome 3 is tough

Yeah for sure Phrike is the easiest looking back at it now…but I personally spent the most attempts on that one out of all of them, I found the learning curve the highest on that boss. Having said that I would pretty much agree with your list though. Ophion is the only boss I beat the first time though but I think a lot of it is getting lucky with weapons. With the fully auto launcher, nothing in this game is really too hard lol
Ixion is the only boss I beat first try so far and I’m on the 4th biome now
I started the game about 5 days ago. The 4th boss was the easiest for me, then the 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd boss. I still need to fight the final boss
After 6 hours of not even being able to reach phike I was ready to ditch the game so glad I went back and learnt what to actually do game is incredible with suped weapons and health bar

If you know the proper responses and general avoidance patterns, they are all pretty easy.
That said, I'd rank them:
Nemesis (hardest) - long fight, general avoidance works here, watch out for the yellow beams, don't take too long in phase 1 and 2
Ixion - careful with the sword swipes in Phase 3, they hurt
Hyperion - You might get snared by the red brambles if you get too close
Phrike - a little rough with only beginner weapons and 1 biome of farming, just know the avoidance moves, and be careful with the purple novas, red lasers and hand swipes
Ophion (easiest) - especially with an Exploding/Expanding Dreadbound - this weapon will end this boss very fast. Don't take too long.
I pretty much agree with this list, although I’d put the final boss as the easiest because of how strong I was and my knowledge of the game at that point. It was really simple. With all the attention to detail, and the movement It takes to get through the biomes, fighting bosses that don’t move were super easy. The 2nd and 3rd bosses were easily the toughest. I flew through the rest of the game because of them. I was preparing for what I thought the bosses could be like after that. 2nd boss was the most difficult because of his movement, being out of sight so much, and the versatility of the attacks. However, the 3rd boss was more stressful because of there was less room to work with while dodging and attacking, and each phase was different. The platforming was awesome. It was super tense and I beat It first try with a sliver of health left. Definitely the most fun and epic boss fight. Highlight of my playthrough for sure. Made the 2nd act pretty underwhelming after a while.
The pylon makes every fight so much easier. Other than the first boss I never died again at any other boss. I died getting to them but not during the fight. Its honestly us players that make these fights difficult. We do a lot of unnecessary moving and dodging. Once I realized that I should only dodge/move once I know where its going to land or strike. Things became so much easier and I was so much more relaxed. Even Watching you in this video you were just running around dodging the first attack and hoping it was enough to dodge the next attacks. You literally would dodge the first attack straight into the path of the next and get hit.
The nemesis fight is so awesome. I was pumped with adrenaline and had a smirk of my face the whole time
Agreed, nemesis was the highlight of the game for me.
For me, the mini bosses were always the run killers.
Ixion gave me the most trouble by far, he destroyed me multiple times!!! None of the other bosses gave me much trouble at all.
easiest defenitely BIOME 6 BOSS, with the pylon gun its not even fair and its the only boss that has health items in the arena.
Ixion was the hardest for me, by FAR. I beat Nemesis, Hyperion and Ophion on the first try, but Ixion took 4-5 tries (I forget which). I died more times against Ixion than all the other bosses combined.
It took me 1 attempt 🙄 vs me rage quoting and dying 3000 times before I killed it lol

Phrike is the hardest precisely because you're new to it.
I died like 60 times before I beat him.
Whats odd to me, Phryke seemed like the hardest, even after beating the game 6 times. Phryke and then Nemesis with the platforming made Nemesis the craziest boss battle in the entire game for me.
I beat Phrike and Ixion first try all in one go, after dying of course to that one cave mini boss. I was like “wow I thought this game was supposed to be hard”…. But then nemesis came…. Lol I think I got it on my third attempt and only lord knows how many getting back. Hyperion was easily my favorite boss in the game but he was pretty easy no doubt. Honestly one of my favorite bosses ever. Biome 5 is such a cool location, part of me wishes there was a boss there. Ophion was the easiest by far imo. Like you by the time I actually made it to him after many deaths I was really strong with max proficiency. Abyssal scar has some tough ass enemies and getting there was much harder. But I beat ophion in like 2 min. I was like umm, is there another? But nonetheless amazing game.
The LAST BOSS (Ophion) is the easiest if you have the electropylon driver. illuminate his weak points, tag a few times, repeat. You can kill him in two minutes without losing health.
I think Phrike is the hardest for people like me who arent used to this roguelike games. I beat him on my 4th or 5th attempt, Hiperion on the 2nd and the rest on the 1st attempt.
Nemesis was really fun to play, but for me Hyperion was the best boss experience, the fight itself is gorgeous and the music playing during the fight is so fucking epic!

I personally didn't die to any bosses, it was the biome that was the hard part
