- Original isolated drum track from the Genesis's song "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight" from the 1973 album "Selling England By The Pound".
Played by Phil Collins (track starts at 1:18)
Their finest album, and this Isolated track is on full display to show how fantastic and peerless his drumming was.
I'm a drummer, too. This album was next level stuff.
Those doubles in the right foot are fast and sharp-power, speed and finesse-insanely talented fellow.
Well,left in his case😊
@@DiegoPocovi Ahh, yes.👍
Phil has an amazing touch and his tones are stupendous. Add the fact that his timing is peerless and you've got one of the best drummers in the world!
I wish they would release just the iso drums of all the Genesis stuff one album at a time.
So many things to comment. First, the sound of his kit in Selling England. That snare is just perfect, tight and full. And I definitely preferred when he still played double headed toms. So organic and musical. Second, the precision and power with which he could play that billycobhamesque groove with fast doubles on the kick and ghost notes on the snare. Amazing. Third, what are those amazing snare rolls and long tom fills? Single stroke rolls? Technically perfect, clear, powerful execution. The fills make Tony Williams come to mind.
One of the most musical drummers out there.
Definitely his best-sounding kit. Punch, sustain, tone, character...
He was definately a Williams fan...I think the rolls are press rolls going into doubles but it does sound like singles sometimes😅It's a shame he's never really been that into talking much about his technique, almost shy about it. After reading his autobiography it comes across that he was maybe less self confident among the big drum names of his day than one might think. A shame. I heard talk of a Drumeo interview he did with his son Nick that maybe promised some info on his technique but I've not seen anything, unless it's only available on the Drumeo site. I also love these drums, along with the Premier kit he played for the Duke era stuff....The single headed toms were great on some stuff but the tone of those Premieres on Duke...And Trick of The Tail come to think were double headed premier too weren't they....His single heads became so iconic and his brand as it were I guess he was reluctant to go away from them, at least until the Big Band stuff, they were lovely drums too.
Our finest rock drummer. There are plenty of drummers that physically can play this, but only one drummer who created it and played it.
every drummer of the century = every drummer of century
Phil is Phil
Wish I could play it, sadly I can’t get near it. 😂
I want to hear "Back In NYC" isolated drums. Phil is like a juggernaut on that track
The Off We Go part is nuts.
I would love to hear isolated drums for Riding the Scree which is an amazing performance, especially on the live version on the Archive I box set, but this is fantastic.
He's a killer. Listen to the accuracy of his ghost notes. And he plays EVERY measure with dynamics and feel. If I want to toy with or test the true depth of fellow musicians, I ask them... "who is the drummer you'd rather be in a band with... Phil or Neal"? All the true monster players in my circles immediately say Phil.
Who’s “Neal” though?
@@You-Deef 🤣🤣🤣 Typo
@@jeremyhelm2833 I wasn’t being funny, but who is it? 😂
@@You-Deef oh... Sorry. I was referring to Neil Peart (who I genuinely respect). I just never thought he had the same level of polyrhythmic complexity of cats like Mark Carney, Bozzio or Bruford (or Beaufort for that fact)
@@jeremyhelm2833 Neil Peart, of course.
He was a big fan of Phil’s, I’m honestly not that into Rush as a band although I do like a few songs, just not keen on Geddy Lee’s voice.
Terry Bozzio is one of my favs btw.
I’m not really a drummer, I play guitar mainly, but also drums at a lower level as I never pursued it much, wish I had though.
At first I was thinking you had the wrong track but then I went back and listened to the original again. So much of this is drowned out in the original mix.
I agree. All those details...Phil is a master.
Amazing that Phil only used one kick here, his speed is phenomenal
This was always one of my favourite Phil Collins drum tracks. He's out of this world. How does a drummer play such complex parts, so tight and yet sounds effortless and chilled. Incredible drum sound on this album too.
As a drummer... Many thanks
Nuts. Beyond insane..
If you want to hear more iso trks, just use one of the many Stem extraction A I. programs out there.
I'm pretty sure that's what this is. There's obvious phase and sustain issues, especially on the cymbals. Just the kind of artifacts a Stem separation program would exhibit.
Insane drumming by Phil on this one! Kind of Mahavishnu Orchestra / Return to Forever drum patterns
I knew Phil was a great drummer, but this is absolutely blinding. Insanely good. It sounds a bit fast though.
It’s a fast song 😂😂
5:25 VERY BRAND X THERE, particularly towards the ending on "Running on Three", and yes, i know that Phil played there, don't be silly pointing out your finger, didn't your mom tell you to not point at strangers?
