I like how you started using the tv as a lil background for yourself. Its pretty entertaining to watch while the video plays
I wanted to get Trainspotting but it was $8 for shipping and that would make it only $2 less than what it normally was going for from Amazon and WalMart so I will just wait for the B&N sale. I'm surprised you haven't seen it. It is in my top 15 favorite movies of all time.
Sisters has a great twist ending. It's the first time de Palma tried to do Hitchcock and he succeeded. It also has the same guy from phantom of the Paradise.
"Sisters" is DePalma in his prime - borrowing Hitchcock motifs and elevating the aesthetic. Margot Kidder has never been better. Also, "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" is such a dreamy and enigmatic take on the Western. Robert Altman's work in the '70s was unrivaled.
OMG Body Double 4k yes!
Nashville and the Long Goodbye are the two best Altman films to start with
Those are the 2 I started with. Yes, I agree the Player is another one for first time Altman watches.

Good pickups! I'm happy to see the Roaring Twenties getting some attention. And Trainspotting is really great! I'll be making my own packaging when I pick up my copy
Unless you're just dead set on getting the 4K, the standard blu ray Criterion of it comes in a normal case.
In chronological order of original movie release dates I picked up...
MILDRED PIERCE
MEAN STREETS
DAYS OF HEAVEN
BLOOD SIMPLE
GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO
Now have 23 Criterion 4ks in my collection, many more in my "must buy" list.
Ken, keep up the good fight and the great work!
you haven't seen trainspotting? wow..your in for a treat..intense movie
Luckily, Trainspotting is good enough to warrant being a display piece in itself 🤣
Yes I participated and bought 4 great titles rumble fish, Tootsie, punch drunk love and hopscotch.
Yep Trainspotting is great. Have dvd and blu ray, now 4k after this sale. For all you trainspotting fans, if you ever have time to read the book, its amazing, truly better than the movie. I read it about 15 years ago, but it even has a glossary so that you can understand the scottish dialect. The book really explains a lot of things that were not in the movie. But the movie is great too. Born Slippy and Dark and Long Underworld are awesome in the soundtrack.
So far, this and Malcolm X are my only critereon purchases ever.
De Palma and Margot Kidder! I didn't know about this one. I'm adding that to my list for the next flash sale.
Sisters is great, you won't regret that purchase :)
I bought Godzilla: The Showa Era and The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind
Sisters is great. That Trainspotting packaging would be in the trash and I'd make a cover for a regular case.
The Criterion blu ray release of it comes in a regular case!
I wanted to get the 4k for Trainspotting but after Stephanie reviewed it I went with the Blu-ray and I am glad I did because it came in the standard case 😊
I'm not familiar with Stephanie. Does she have a RUclips channel?
I love trainspotting, but I’m from the U.K. I can kind of relate, more than someone from the states.
Trainspotting on Criterion 4K is great. Enjoy. Also excellent movie.
I bought Mean Streets, After Hours, The Red Shoes and Blood Simple (all in 4k)😊
I got my David Lynch on..lost highway, mulholland Dr, eraserhead, inland empire and threw in Guillermo Del Toros Pinocchio. The packaging is awesome.
Yeah I love the consistency of David Lynch films all coming in digipacks. Inland Empire is the only one in a regular case
Got Trainspotting 4K, Lome Star 4K, Eric Rohmer tales of the seasons set.
The 4K for Trainspotting was great. Saw some stills online of it being green but it had plenty of color. I also heard about it since i was a kid. Lived up to the acclaim. I liked it a lot
I somehow managed to resist and not buy anything at the flash sale, despite really wanting Days of Heaven. I'll wait and pick it up at the B&N sale this summer.
That Trainspotting packaging is crazy. That's my only beef about Criterion, their packing is all over the place.
Great haul! I won’t be buying Trainspotting until it gets a standard case release. That current case is awful! 😅
The blu ray edition comes in a standard case :)
Hope to hear your thoughts on Trainspotting. If you like it then you have to see the 2nd. It's just what you have to do
I always found It weird comparing boutique labels, specially when there isn't that much overlap between them. People that are into criterion's curation, are not gonna care about Vinegar Syndrome's extensive extras on their release of killer condom.
I got:
-The Asphalt Jungle
-War of the Worlds
-Godzilla (1954)
-In the Heat of the Night
-Miller’s Crossing
-Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
-Marriage Story
-The Roaring Twenties
-Mean Streets
-After Hours
Overall I’m really happy with how much I was able to expand my collection. I’ve loved every single one of these and they’re all beautiful
Nice haul!
I was anticipating March also but went with:
APU Trilogy (4K)
Brazil
The Heroic Trio / Executioners (4K)
Pinnocchio (4K)
The Red Balloon, and other stories
The Tree of Life
We reviewed Lone Star for Film Freaks TV. It was very well done. John Sayles is a very underrated director who I don’t hear about as much.
From Robert Altman I'd suggest seeing 3 Women (1977). It's a very special, unique film. And it contains brilliant performances by Sissy Spacek and Shelley Duvall. You won't regret watching it.
4K: Double Indemnity; The Red Shoes
Blu Ray: Tod Browning’s Sideshow Shockers; Forty Guns; It Happened One Night; The Breakfast Club
No flash sale for me😢
I got Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio 4K, Onibaba, Moonstruck & The Innocents! 😊
Lone Star is awesome. Best movie from 1996
I picked up:
1. The Heroic Trio 4k
2. The Roaring Twenties 4k
3. Police Story 1/2
4. House
5. The Complete Lady Snowblood
Grabbed ‘Mean Streets’ , ‘The Others’ , and Pinocchio’.
Gosford Park would be a great Robert Altman addition to the criterion collection
The issue you have with Trainspotting is the same one I have with the digibook for All Quiet on the Western Front. It's a 4k, but the height of a DVD.
Sisters and Trainspotting are great! The only title I picked up from this sale was Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Also, Trainspotting 2 isn't worthy of a Criterion release in my opinion, I thought it was a huge step down from the first one. It's worth seeing for the reunion of the actors and their characters, but definitely a one time watch for me!
Love your opinions about criterion. I feel very similar about a lot of your negatives, that’s for calling out the Trainspotting packaging what were they doing?! Lmao
What kind of special features would you expect for a 90 year old movie? Back then they typically tossed out unused footage, so no deleted scenes. Behind the scenes featurettes would have been expensive pre-video. Everyone associated with the film has died, so new interviews aren’t possible.
Yeah the boy Ken is cherry picking here.
We need Body Double and Obsession in 4K.
I admit I missed this sale. Im waiting for barnes and Noble's big sale
I believe Margot Kidder did SISTERS before Black Christmas, Superman and then Amityville Horror. I have not seen that movie, Ken. Let us know.
Bought Polyester but did not have scratch n sniff card! Ughhh But the poster was included!
They had mine angled in a tiny box and all the slips got dinged up. I have trainspotting and the case is ridiculously sized , same reason I don't buy A24 4k's.
I still need to get Sisters for my Depalma collection. There's another Depalma movie that needs a new release. And that's The Fury. It feels like the sibling to Carrie. And I'm passing on Trainspotting. That feels like a total shit package. I don't trust taking the discs in and out. Without scratching the discs. I'll have to find a foreign edition of it.
Not a big delivery for me. I picked up The Uninvited, Blue Is The Warmest Color and Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life.
I have seen Sisters. Very early DePalma, and a pretty decent movie, IMO.
You went on a modern Western jag, this time. Saw Lone Star when it first came out and really enjoyed it. Hope you do, too!
Special features? I agree on newer movies, but seriously, this movie came out in 1939. Everyone who worked on it is dead, and any special features by people in the know are long released.
I just thought the green stripes on the box made it a tastier grab for those porch pirates out there ... me personally I'll take a drab non enticing box
Sup ken, when's the next round table?
Ken I bought Freaks at full price too. Why? I don't know. Because we are freaks.
I do not like Train Spotting’s packaging but the movie is good.
You should always give your honest opinion and criticism about movies or companies, ignore those who hates it.
TBH, if you turned into Chris Stuckmann I doubt I would watch your vids.
You be you.
I'm thinking of starting a 4k ultra hd collection. What player do I get?
What budget?
@@chrisjfox8715 $350
Me scrolling through to see if he gets a foreign language Criterion, and Trainspotting doesn’t count
I loathe the Criterion brochures. How hard is it to simply cut into a few pages with couple staples. The booklet is astronomically more ergonomic for reading.
Ken, I’m with you on Criterion skimping out on special features. I first noticed it in 2020, but was willing to overlook it because of the pandemic. But it’s 2024 and I haven’t noticed any improvements. If it weren’t for older special features from other releases, some releases would be lucky to have one original special feature they actually contributed….
Mccabe and mrs miller is a western in the same way paint your wagon is, i mean its not a musical but i found it exceedingly boring, hopefully you, ken, will like it better
Waiting until July to avoid shipping fees.
You make far toooooo many videos. I'm considering unsubbing!
That's illogical, watch the ones that appeal, ignore the rest?.....
