      Thanks Elliot! I really appreciate it. Always great to hear from you. I actually wanted my shelves to be the exact height of a Blu-ray case like yours, but I just had too many oversized releases for that to make sense for me. I love that tight clean look of your Criterion Collection shelves though.

      @@FilmsByColor they would get much more irritated at mine because I group by bluray and 4k in Genre sections. They would have a field day but that’s how I watch movies. I go I want to watch a thriller or i want to watch a comedy and I go to that section. Everyone has different ways they watch etc. Your shelf looks great don’t listen to the haters lol. If I had a nice white shelf backdrop I might arrange by color. Plus your shelf stands out from literally anyones

    Man, your physical media collection looks huge! I actually have over 4,000 myself (so over twice as many) but am storing them differently - every time I see a display overview like this one it puts the size of my collection in perspective a bit lol (a lot of mine are on revolving units and it makes it look like it takes up less space)
    Great collection!

    Lovely video, of a large collection. I will always store my movies by genre, and it's so cool to see another view on things. Thanks for that! To upgrade from Blu-ray to 4k is so expencive in Norway, and in total there are only 1 physical store left in the entire country. 1 typical criterion release on 4k can go for 80 usdollars, which never will be ok for me. So sales are the way to go, or used.

    OMG FILMS BY COLOR - now I get it!!! I'm strictly an alphabetic organizer then I use CollectorZ (CLZ) to locate the shelf (or case) where the disc lives. How DO YOU find a disc - do you know the color case of every film in the collection (LOL)? Certainly provides a great backdrop for your videos. Dropped by local B&N today, but after two Criterion titles on Monday, I decided to leave w/o purchasing; going away next week and saw there's a B&N 2 miles from where I'm staying and firgure I'd take a shot on the road trip one rainy day.

      Thanks so much, Sean! That’s some high praise. I always appreciate your comments. When you commission your shelving, I’d recommend going with an independent contractor over a company. You’ll save a lot of money that way. Just make sure he’s good. Ask to see his previous work. We found a guy that specializes in built-in shelving. He does awesome work.

    Great collection. A nice variety of titles, distributors and, most importantly, an array of colors. Funny, in the past whenever you mentioned your Criterion shelf, I always pictured in my mind another wall with a number of shelve units, not a continuation of the two shelve units we see on camera. I have my Criterion closet set up alphabetically by director then chronologically by the year of release. If I ever get myself reorganized, I'll have to do it typically by spine number, Currently, it is a pain trying to make room in various spots due to limited shelve space.

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  11 месяцев назад

      I’m constantly considering reorganizing my Criterion Collection by spine number. I don’t think it would be worth it though, since my collection is still relatively small.

    If I was your neighbor I would sneak in at night one day and rearrange your collection alphabetically like a normal person. How do you remember what color something is if you’re looking for a particular title?

    • @tonyfc8809

      Its easy to remember the color of sleeves if you actually watch your movies. Also, each color would be arranged alphabetically.

    I was just thinking of it now, but I'd love if you could make a video on films that you would show your child at different stages of their life. Starting with the first films you'd ever show them and making your way forward to their first ever introduction to R-Rated films?
    You could do it as an entire series videos breaking them down by different notable moments and age brackets of their life, whether that be films you've already shown or hope to show in the future.
    I know that you value creating a rich love of film in your kids and make that notable in your videos, so I think it would be a good fit for your channel and could be a way to get new viewers if your video reaches the right search bar terms.

    Sorry I'm a day late posting this, but thanks so much for giving us a look at your entire collection. I'm a little different in that I mostly organization my films by genre and certain actors/actresses/directors. So, that means I don't have all of my Criterion titles next to each other. For example, my Criterion copy of "War of the Worlds" is with my other sci-fi films, and my Criterion copy of "The Uninvited" is in with my horror titles. Sometimes I think of how cool it would be to have all of my Criterion titles together, but I really like organizing them by genre.

    • @FilmsByColor

    Fantastic collection. Do you struggle sometimes remembering what section a film is it due to it being in a colour section. I know us collectors sometimes have a 6th sense were we put stuff but was just wondering. Loving the content keep them coming.

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  11 месяцев назад

      Well said. I’ve never heard it put that way, but you’re right. We do kinda have a sixth sense. So it’s not usually a problem, but in the rare case that I can’t remember where something is, I have all my movies logged in a database app on my phone. And I tag them with a color, so it just takes a couple seconds to run a search. Great question. Thanks for the support!

    If you wanted to showcase releases in more depth, you could pull a selection of films all in one color or shade of color and talk about them there. To turn it into more of a series of videos rather than a singular video.

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  11 месяцев назад +1

      You’re spot on. I’ve had the same thought. If I ever do Complete Collection videos, that’s how I’ll do them. I actually tested out that format with my Christmas Collection video at the end of last year, and I though it worked really well.

  • @TroyUlysses
    @TroyUlysses 11 месяцев назад

    I find it strange that the collection is colour coded for esthetics, but then up close, you haven't taken it to the next level and grouped similar cases by height and size for a truly unified look.

    • @FilmsByColor
      @FilmsByColor  11 месяцев назад

      I wish I could, but if I put them by size they wouldn’t truly be by color. There has to be an even gradation from light to dark within each color section or you lose the rainbow effect, and the shelves just look patchy on camera.
