The 5-speed RWD transmission 5EAT was designed in 2003 by Jatco on commission from Subaru for popular models Tribeca, Impreza, Outback, Legacy on a constructive basis of Jatco JR507E , reengineered for the engine room of Subaru.
Since 2005, the 5EAT unit has been operating on LEGACY model equipped with engines having the capacity from 2 to 3.6 liters. Later this transmission was paired with 3-liter engines Н6 on American models of Tribeca and Outback. The Impreza model for the Japanese market was also equipped with this transmission.

Thank you for taking the time to document such a thorough assembly. Really appreciate it.
how much HP can these handle
This is a great video but skipping steps on something like this is a recipe for disaster... how do you remove the brake clutch??
19:31 Can someone please help me? I have some pictures of the transmission housing but can't remember if anything else was in here before the low coast clutch. Mines an 08 and looks a little different here.
Wait what needs to be machined?
Thank you for making such a thorough video. After watching your tear down vid it helped me confirm my fears of a 5th ‘gear’ clutch pack breakdown. It’s remarkable how similar the 5eat is to a powershift tractor transmission. I’m an agri engineer in the UK and I’d like to try my own build in my 07 legacy. Is it as simple as machining the difference in extra clutch plates off of the drums etc?
Thank you. As far as the extra clutches question, no. I had redesigned steel plates manufactured to do what we’re doing in these builds.
@@iptperformancetrans Thank you for your response. So you changed the thickness in clutch plates rather than the housing itself?
@@samueldixon8674 Both really, I use different thickness steel plates and do quite a bit of machining to the clutch pistons to install all of the extra clutches
@@iptperformancetrans Ahh okay I get you. Thanks again dude keep doing what you’re doing💪🏻
How much power can these handle?
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you for watching!
Loved this! So detailed and educational. With this rebuild how much horsepower would the transmission be able to handle now?
Thank you!
They are typically good up to 600hp but that’s a pretty rare number for these cars to make.
I have a 2009 Subaru Legacy, non turbo, it comes from the factory with the 4EAT transmission, can I put the 5EAT transmission? Or is that transmission only for specific models?
@@SHEKESON6 That would be a difficult swap
Have you ever seen a 5AT with only 2 sealing rings on the direct clutch support? The middle ring was missing
Yes, the later style omits that ring 97-up I think?
Yeah, this unit didn't have a sprag or overrun clutch at the bottom where the forward clutch is, just a hub down there.
Cheers! @@iptperformancetrans
How much would one of these run me? I got a 2014 3.6 Outback that I’d love to put one of these in.
Os pacotes de discos composites e aço do cambio 5EAT são bem diferentes do 4EAT.
Куда ставится пружина?z
Does the 5EAT have a remote oil filter ? I spied a small black filter on the left hand (passengers front side) and I'm not quite sure if it is for the trans or not.
@@produKtNZ Yes, there’s a spin on filter behind the battery in most vehicles. It may be the same part number as your oil filter but don’t quote me on that.
I sent ya'll an email as I'm looking into this on a future project. Thank you!
I recently rebuild my Subaru legacy transmission but when am driving it's not going into 3rd gear it keeps on giving a braking and go bk in 2nd gear
Sounds like something is misassembled either in the valve body or the transmission itself
I think it's in the valve body cause I rebuild it before and it gave me the same issue and I took it back down and watch ur video and did everything u did and when I put it back up it's the same problem
Hey is the upgraded performance rebuild kit you sell on the site the same one as here with the additional clutches?
It is not, what we do in house requires the machine work
@@iptperformancetrans ah i see so the rebuild kit online is like stock+ and the build services you do are the higher power setups? Is there any way i could send you parts to be machined? Lol
thanks for the fast reply
Hi guys. I have a question. I have a 2007 Subaru Outback 3.0 and I need to buy the solneoid kit with some kind of wore harness. Do you know where I can find it?
@@andresgoijberg3534 As far as I know as of now, solenoids are only available as part of a complete valve body and harnesses need to come from the dealership as well
Awesome build! Some years back my 5EAT acted up (2007 Outback 3.0 H6 SI-Drive). Went to limp mode, which means the forward drive was in 3rd gear only. With the help of the internet, it turned out one of the controller solenoids went bad in the valve body. So I ordered one, which is the exact same as some Hyundai or Nissan ones. It was a journey to remove the oil pan without damaging it, remove the valve body, switch out the bad solenoid, and put everything back together. I was soaked in ATF oil. I was so relieved when it shifted all the gears back and forth. A garage pit is a must if you do not have a hoist or 2-post lift.
BTW what ATF oil do you recommend using in the 5EAT besides the factory one? Is Motul Multi ATF good enough? Some say it is good, and some say only Subaru ATF oil.
The service manual says alternatives are Idemitsu ATF HP and Castrol Transmax J (which is outdated).
Good 👍🏻
I recommend Dexron 6
But what you’re talking about using will work well too
@@iptperformancetrans Thanks for the quick reply.✌🏻
Fuchs TITAN ATF 4400 meets the Subaru SUBARU ATF OIL/ATF OIL SPECIAL/ ATF HP standards which are listed in the recommended material's section of the service manual for the 5EAT, bit expensive but high quality German oil.
@@lofty247 Thank you!
Wish to get my 5eat built by you ipt
Thank you. We like doing them 👍🏻
What kind of warranty does this have?
Typical warranty is 1 year unlimited miles
Thank you for a fast reply.@@iptperformancetrans
@@iptperformancetrans how much hp is safe for it?
@@fawkesalcapone6095 We have built them for as high as 600hp

nobody wants to rebuild these , you should stay busy if i were a guessing man kudos
