That laptop case is properly the most workable one I have ever seen. Granted most the laptops I have work on are ancient ones that are a big pain to work on, but even newer ones don't open up that much and require a lot more of dismantling to expose that much of its insides.
I just checked my old Dell Latitude CPx. Removed all back screws, rear end after removing holding cover screws, and pryed out keyboard (not touch pad board) and next touch pad unit, taking care with connector cable of keyboard and touchpad plugins. It is right there, a 7.2 v, 4mAH (Varta) with plug in connector. Actually it is 6 pcs of button cells soldered in series and wrapped and sealed in plastic cover. Takes time to buy these from market, solder them, seal them and connect to replace-!.
Yes and I even went on to the company website to check. I info on where to find the battery location or how to open up the lab-top without damaging it.
Great vid, you obviously have an old laptop have you done anything else with it, like replace parts or even just replace all of the internals ? If not then I'd like to see you make a video of one !
Great vid, you obviously have an old laptop have you done anything else with it, like replace parts or even just replace all of the internals ? If not then I'd like to see you make a video of one ! Unfortunately Vista is crap, I hope they took the opportunity to install win8 pro when MS had their special price early 2013, it works well with older computers, although the 'metro' interface on start up is very annoying it can be by-passed with 'classicshell' !
is it possibel tht mylaptop has this problem ? my laptop forgot the date and time every time i start it up. now , he doesn't start up at all... no beep , no screen , just nothing ... could the empty CMOS battery be the problem of this ? thanks
lucky you your cmos battery is easy to reach. to get to my cmos battery, i need to separate the screen from the main unit. remove the whole laptop shell. the key board and the track pad. tons of screws. speakers. dvd drive. hard drive and etc just to change the cmos battery -.-
How long the cmos life battery expectancy normally? I bought my laptop on 2011, and it won't boot up few days ago, suspected it's cmos battery faulty though..
would the cmos battery have something to to do with startup problems? im running it in safemode right now and dont have volume so i cant hear the vid, plus my time is always off is that caused by cmos battery also? someone please help, i can get the battery for 2 bucks and the guy wants 90 to put it in
Curious , toshiba satellite L640 , I have noticed without getting too carried away, is it a small , or a large CR2032, picking I have removed the wrong one.
No there isn't - it is sooo frustrating. Cannot find how to replace the CMOS Battery for the HP 2000 Notebook PC. Do you know if it is in the system board?
Howdy, The best guide that I have noticed was on Volt daddy (i found it on google) I bet its the most detailed info on batteries and this type of thing that I have found.
Hello. I am here cuz I have a problem with my Gateway NV53 laptop: no display at all ( black screen ) with red light battery, then I bought a new battery but the problem still persisting
if my laptop turns on but does not boot, read the hard drive or anything else then the screen is blank, does that mean the CMOS battery is flat? or something more serious?
Cmos battery holder has come away from motherboard on Dell studio laptop do you know of any guides out there on fixing that I was thinking of getting a 2 wire battery on ebay and trying to solder that but it was copper tabs where do you solder to
It will work but you will lose all your bios information every time you turn off. which means your date will be out and it will have to detect your hard drives again (if your bios is capable of auto detecting your hard drive that it)
I really need help. I was so stupid and I only had one intel graphics card. I disabled it not knowing it would not function without it. The problem is when I turn on my laptop, the screen is on but it's so shattered and broken so it's connected to my tv and when I start the laptop it doesn't show on tv so I can't reset anything. I've been googling and watching videos and I've taken out the battery and took everything plugged away. I've turned the laptop on and off and I still don't know what to do. If there's a way to enable my intel graphics and get the laptop displaying on my tv screen please please help me.
I removed the cmos battery and put it back in after 20 minutes still it asks for bios password and idk it. Also I can't access the jumper my laptop doesnt open all the way and its way too many screws
I just got the BIOS battery replaced and was asked to pay 500 Indian rupees which is more than 7 USD. I am using an LG R480 Laptop. Do you think it would cost that much ? I had a problem with the clock on my computer. It wasnt updating the time correctly.
Howdy, The best guide that I have read was on Volt daddy (i did a google) Probably the most detailed info on batteries and this kinda things that I have found.
I am having problems with my computer booting up. I'd say 99% of the time the monitor will not turn on when I turn on my laptop. It boots and loads Windows, but the monitor stays dark. I have to use the HDMI out on my laptop to connect it to my TV to use it. It is very rare that my monitor turns on when I turn on my computer. Any ideas?
hello dude , i try to update my bios but the computer crashed and now i try to open it but nothing happend only the light is open the screan is dead what happend? the prossesor is dead??
Toshiba Satellite C50-B-14-D CMOS Battery low message comes up. I do not know where the battery is located or how to resolve the issue can you help me. Thanks
Hey I forgot my laptop password to get in my account If I remove my Cmos Battery for 30 seconds will it reset it?. I tried taking it to a repair shop but they said it had some protection they could not crack it is ah hp windows xp professional and has mobile data protection system I don't know what that is.
+1960tinotiger If you do a Google search for the exact model, you need to download the engineers manual. It will tell you in there where the CMOS battery is located ;-)
The CMOS battery enables to computer to remember the time and date etc. If the CMOS battery is flat, the computer will not remember the date/time etc. Thanks for the comment 👍
hi there i am having problems with my hp laptop when i turn it on it comes up power on password????? i have tried to get help from hp but they arent very helpful could u please tell me how i can reset this i would be very grateful if u could help me thanks!
+sebas victoria You will have to search for the engineers manual, it should tell you in there.I hope it's not in the same place as the Acer Aspire- ruclips.net/video/aUk1UxYOpW4/видео.html
Have you tried searching the internet for the engineers manual for your laptop? It normally shows you in that manual exactly where the CMOS battery is located.
You'll lose all your volatile BIOS settings every time you power off without a CMOS battery, You might as well spend £2.99 and 5 minutes changing the thing. It'll stop you having problems with software saying "License out of date" later.
That laptop case is properly the most workable one I have ever seen. Granted most the laptops I have work on are ancient ones that are a big pain to work on, but even newer ones don't open up that much and require a lot more of dismantling to expose that much of its insides.
It's amazing that even after 10 years he still replies to comments! amazing
I try to respond to all comments, but sometimes the RUclips comment system plays up and I miss the odd one ;-)

The CMOS battery on some machines is much harder to replace, please see here-
Acer Aspire CMOS battery | Acer Aspire losing date
Thanks so much for your helpful video. You just saved me a lot of time, money and worry as I was able to do this myself!
Yes and I even went on to the company website to check. I info on where to find the battery location or how to open up the lab-top without damaging it.
Thank you for this common sense, simple video. So I don't have to build a laptop from scratch after all.
You are welcome
Thanks for the comment
Great vid, you obviously have an old laptop have you done anything else with it, like replace parts or even just replace all of the internals ? If not then I'd like to see you make a video of one !

Thumbs up if you have Arch + Openbox. Good video, doesn't look that hard but I needed to see howto before I set foot in my journey, thanks.

@ultimatehandyman no, nothing. is rare. I opened it and there is nothing loose. Can i put an adheside tape?
Off topic, but im trying to switch my laptop screen with a new one. Is disconnecting the battery necessary before the switch? Thank you.
Hey can i transfer the cmos battery of my old acer laptop to my HP pavilion laptop? Are internal batteries interchangeable through different brands?
I would not bother, as the CMOS batteries are very inexpensive. You are much better off fitting a new battery ;-)
Ultimate Handyman not from where i came from hahahaha. Im just wondering if it is possible so i dont have to spend at all.
Hey man, you still there? I really could use your help on the topic of is it okay to use an internal battery from one laptop to another :(

Curious , toshiba satellite L640 , I have noticed without getting too carried away, is it a small , or a large CR2032, picking I have removed the wrong one.
There is normally only one CMOS battery on the motherboard
Thanks for the comment 👍
@@ultimatehandyman Thanks , it's not too bad to replace, as long as I don't break the holding bracket, have made that mistake in the past.
Hello there, do you know how do i change it in Toshiba Satellite Pro U 400 laptop?!? Please help me if u have any experience!
No there isn't - it is sooo frustrating. Cannot find how to replace the CMOS Battery for the HP 2000 Notebook PC. Do you know if it is in the system board?

will this help out if a laptop has 3 beeps appearing on start up? (i have a Dell inspiron N5110)
3 beeps is a memory error, so yeah, this should help since it has something to do with the motherboard.
Can I just remove it and place it back again? Would it work? Only my keyboard and mouse are not reaponding!
Yes, but you might have to re-enter the date on boot up.
Thanks for the comment 👍

If you do a Google search for the exact model, you need to download the engineers manual. It will tell you in there where the CMOS battery is located ;-)
But whats the benefits of this battery??....what does it helps??
The CMOS battery enables to computer to remember the time and date etc. If the CMOS battery is flat, the computer will not remember the date/time etc.
