This is an easy fix that works for most laptops with this type of battery, if you are lucky and it's not positioned in a really hard to reach location.
What about clamping metal heat sinks to the surface of the battery - near the solder points ? Would that absorb enough heat and prevent exploding the battery ?
I loved to watch your video. The technique is very helpful to me. You showed everything very clearly and reused as much as possible. I will go and watch all other videos of yours. Thanks for your time in creating such a wonderful and useful video and sharing it. I have a Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5224 laptop. I did not use it for several years. Everything was working fine, but the touch screen and LCD screen malfunctioned and could not see the screen well where it was asking to enter the date after I had unplugged the main battery from the motherboard. Perhaps that corrupted the BIOS information and not the fan runs when turned on for a minute or two, nothing shows on screen then laptop turns off even when the charger and battery are plugged in. I opened the back cover and could not find the location of the CMOS battery either to clear it or to replace it. By the way you replied to almost every viewer's comments. I highly value your time and helping nature. Keep up the good work, Sir.
Thank you for the video! Why did you choose to reuse the plastic ring - was there a safety reason? I'm having to try using electrical tape since I don't have heat shrink, but I don't want to create a safety or interference problem (battery & wires near the WLAN antennae). Thanks
That was easy. To open my Lenovo, you need like 7-8 screws unscrewed from the back, than remove the keyboard, unscrew 3 more screws under it,to remove the back. And i hate removing the keyboard cause it so sensitive. You dont have to brake it nececerily, but can easily be scratched or a bit damaged on the edges. Not prety.
Is the plug for the cable always pullable (can ba pulled out); I tried to do that on my NuC Hades canyon but I cant pull it out. I stopped trying because I thought this might be soldered. thank you.
No space for it. Even my mini-ITX (desktop) motherboard has a similar wired battery and located in such a tight spot that I have to remove the motherboard from the case to replace it. On a sub 15 liter volume mini ITX case that is like half a day (or more) lost. It is very annoying just to replace a stupid battery.
Sorry, but I don't know. You need to check yourself. But, as far as I have seen, all modern laptops have the same type of battery like I show in the video.
what could be the reason my laptop hp 8760w not turning on? i have tried basic thing by removing battery, and try to turn on with direct adapter power, pressed the power button for 30 sec and then plug in power adapter and none of them worked
I soldered the battery but it wont work out n the battery is dead ,,no voltage showed I am lucky the battery didnt explode even i solder it n it generated the excessive heat from soldering 2 times i did the same way..its failed finally i wrap up the battery with tape ...n it worked fine
Remove main battery and shut off the laptop. If you get some error that bios settings have changed or if the clock and date are reset when you enter the bios, then the battery is gone.
I have dell latitude e6400 series 3000. How to remove password from bios is GP3S4M1-1F5A? Help me please. I bought ssd kingston A400 120 gb ... I installed and they asked for a Bios password to configure :( ... I already subscribe: D
Well, they actually do sell them. You can buy from eBay bios batteries for your laptop model directly with the wires and connector. But I am cheap and also did not want to wait 🤭
I mentioned I will pry them appart and that is exactly what I did. Spot welding can't be melted like solder, so the only way is to pull them and rip them from the old battery.

On another video - the technician used copper conductive tape ? But that assumes that the adhesive material wouldn't interfere with conductivity ?
The adhesive needs to be conductive for sure.
Another idea, put the battery on a wet cloth while soldering. The heat should transfer into the cloth.

Thank you! I really apreciate your kind words and I'm happy my video helped you! 😊
@Ultimate DIY you made it look easy. Thank-you for the excellent tutorial.
Welcome! ✌🏼
Amazing, you've solved my problem with my old laptop, it has the same model of CMOS... thanks
Welcome!
Thanks,on my E5430 Dell it takes 27 steps and almost total breakdown to change CMOS battery. Next time I'll buy what you have!
It sucks when they put them so deep inside the machine.

Welcome! I think it was a material that is hard to puncture, so at that moment I liked it. You can use electrical tape. Should not be a problem.
Thank you with all my heart I'm from Iraq

Hello from Romania!
creative solution. thamks
Thank you. Very good step by step instructions. Where are you from? I will subscribe.

+Pera Peric yes, Lenovo tends to use lots of screws :)
I'm confused @13:18. With the main battery reinserted and powered up, did you get to this screen without having to reset the BIOS?
You will need to check the bios settings. When both main battery and bios battery are removed, the bios settings go to default values.
Is the plug for the cable always pullable (can ba pulled out); I tried to do that on my NuC Hades canyon but I cant pull it out. I stopped trying because I thought this might be soldered. thank you.
It depends on the model, so I can't tell you for sure.
thank you
Welcome!
Thank you so much my laptop started up against after this
Welcome!
What is the black material that you're sliding the new battery into?
Noah Fitzwilliam it's heat shrinking tube.
Great idea and great job but why in the heck did they ever make it this way instead of the spring loaded clip?
More cost effective in some way? That would be my guess.

I want to change the battery for my e6330. Is this a normal cell battery or is it different?.
Sorry, but I don't know. You need to check yourself. But, as far as I have seen, all modern laptops have the same type of battery like I show in the video.
I pulled the wires out of the CMOS connector on my Acer Helios and cannot find where to buy a new one.. Any advice?
Try ebay.
Buy cmos battery at electronic store or computer repair store
Did you use CR2032 battery?
Yes.
The ground wire should go in the battery with the negative or positive?
Negative.
@@UltimateDIY thanks for the reply
You could have stuck contacts down with metallized tape, then heat shrunk.
Indeed, that is a good idea. Thanks!
what could be the reason my laptop hp 8760w not turning on?
i have tried basic thing by removing battery, and try to turn on with direct adapter power, pressed the power button for 30 sec and then plug in power adapter and none of them worked
Those are the hardest to troubleshoot...
Sorry, but there could be so many things, that it's impossible to guess.
I want to restore my laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro c640.
I don't know the kind of battery to put.
Please help me. Thank you
Sorry, but I don't know.
So i just need to insert the positve n negative terminal in the heat shrink tube then heat shrink it?
Indeed. Just make sure the wires are without insolation, so they can contact the battery. Also make sure you keep the correct polarity.
@@UltimateDIY thank you bro...you are the best
Whats the specication of the battery? Can i use any kind of battery?
3V lithium cell. Model CR2032
What the size of heat shrinking tube ??
That...I do not know, but the battery has a diameter of 20mm and a thickness of 3.2mm.
How did you remove the metal contacts? Just pried them off?
Yes. They are spot welded in place.
@@UltimateDIY Thanks, figured. Seems so unnecessary since the contacts are held in place by the tape anyways.
I soldered the battery but it wont work out
n the battery is dead ,,no voltage showed
I am lucky the battery didnt explode even i solder it n it generated the excessive heat from soldering
2 times i did the same way..its failed
finally i wrap up the battery with tape ...n it worked fine
Yes, sadly lithium batteries are really sensitive to heat.
My laptop stopped recognising the SSD.
Could it be a bios issue?
HP 17-by0010ds
The ssd could also be bad. Test it in another pc.
@@UltimateDIY I did. I got it to mount and format.
I did not try inside my working laptop as the system disk though.
Ill try that tomorrow.
How to a buy this
where can i buy en bios batterie?
Original laptop bios battery or just standard pc bios battery?
Can i replace a 2.4v to 3v is it not safe?
All bios batteries are 3v.
See full video
Good recommandation! :)
is there a way to diagnose to check? without open the back cover?
Remove main battery and shut off the laptop. If you get some error that bios settings have changed or if the clock and date are reset when you enter the bios, then the battery is gone.
@@UltimateDIY yes i have that error, but sometimes, i did not get that error
To get the error the main battery must be empty (or completely removed) and the power cable not plugged in.
@@UltimateDIY yes.. I received this error after removed my bloated lithium battery. So, it's dead?
@@UltimateDIY i need to plug-in to turn it on

Replied to your other comment.
I have a dell n430 dell laptop I think it has the same problem
Could be, if it's "forgetting" settings.

i make the same with a bios battery an old play station 2.
Nice 👍🏼
Ugh I do not want to solder a battery .. why don’t they sell these more easily LOL
Well, they actually do sell them. You can buy from eBay bios batteries for your laptop model directly with the wires and connector. But I am cheap and also did not want to wait 🤭
No need to make holes. Just test at the end of the wires...
Don't remember where and why I made holes 🤔
@@UltimateDIY holes in the plastic to test the battery .. but the connector has exposed metals
Ah, ok. Probably I did not notice.
With Avasva plans doing something like that was easy.
Avasva plans? What is that?
Thanks a lot!

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF REMOVING SPOT WELDED STRIPS FROM OLD BATTERY, THAT YOU OMMITTED TO SHOW. HOW YOU REMOVED? BY HOTGUN OR SOLDERING IRON?
