What an awesome optimistic (yet realistic) message. I was socialized in an environment of "Anything you put your mind to, you can achieve." Unfortunately, that's not exactly how the world actually works. What a great message for strength and perseverance --- but with a dose of realism. We can all benefit from thinking of the question: What can we do when external forces push us away from what we had THOUGHT our lives had in hold for us?

Listening to this talk made me take a pause (as Shira suggests) to consider what dreams I may be holding on to. So many of us live in a daily grind and don't take time to really step back and look at what we may need to let go of to become unstuck. Motivating and a message worth hearing!

Great TEDx talk and topic! The way Shira reframes it really does make a difference. From "I'm a failure" to "I'm a survivor." I'm feeling some of that now and this tip really helps. Also appreciated Shira telling HER story of failure -- that's some pretty revealing and vulnerable stuff. Gives her credibility - she knows first-hand what she's talking about.

What a great message! Regardless of the circumstance there comes a time in life when things to go as planned. As a serial planner it cannot only be frustrating but devastating! Shira's message is inspiring, as well as actionable. She shares what no one else has when it comes to broken dreams.

Enjoyed this Ted Talk. Many of us have faced challenges that have changed the course of our lives and our dreams personally and professionally. Often, we have to reassess and redirect our dreams due to circumstances we can't control. This presentation did a nice job of demonstrating how to succeed even when we have to change course.

Thank you, Shira! So many good points that could be So helpful to all of us! And presented in a way and and with examples that can help us feel better about making the choice to llet go. The world is definitely not a place of "certainty". It's nice to hear once in awhile that it's ok to pause for a bit, readjust, and move on if needed.

Just read Shira Miller's book Free and Clear: Get Unstuck and Live the Life You Want, which goes along so nicely with this talk. Great advice and insightful real-life examples of people who either intentionally or unintentionally had to let go of a dream.

I dreamed I'd find a man who loved and accepted me and we would grow old together. I'm 50 and I have to come to terms with I've already missed out on the last 20 to 30 years of companionship and it won't ever change.

wealth and poverty are a state of mind. I can say with 100 percent certainty that I live in poverty. sometimes, some of us get into situations through NO fault of our own, and there is no way out EVER. That isnt living, it is just existing in a realm of eternal suffering

Ever since I was 8, it has always been a dream of mine to become a pilot. I recently found out that I am color deficient (red-green colorblind) and, unfortunately, that dream that I have possessed for almost my entire life was cut short. It sucks that this had to happen when my dream is only an arm's reach away (I am now 18 and heading to college this year) but I will never give up on the wish that, someday by God's grace, I get to become a pilot.

Thank you for this. I'm currently trying to let go of my dream of being wife and mother. It is hard when most women my age are getting engaged left/right around me, but I will continue each and every day to learn to let it go

Please don’t let go. I haven’t let it go yet because it’s not out of reach at all. It’s not out of reach for you either. There are billions of people in the world, odds are many will like you. Let go of the desperation but don’t let go of the dream
