    Did you determine the direction of current through the fuse before deciding the orientation of replacement?

    • @EV-olution

      I don't think the direction of current is relevant with regards to the fuses and fuse taps.

      @@EV-olution I think I’m using the wrong language, but from what I have read there is a correct direction and an incorrect direction to put in a fuse tap. One way places the two fuses in series and the other places them in parallel with implications for load on the wires. This my not matter with small amperages I suppose.

    Must say a HUGE THANK YOU for this video. Because of the tips and tricks (and dead ends) you spent time discovering I managed to fit my NextBase dash cam in less than an hour.
    Things you discovered, like the door seal pulling away, were invaluable. Also I made sure to check my cable length before I started to to route along the floor, and luckily it was the perfect length.
    I also started at the front and worked backwards which made it easier for my dash cam (NextBase) as it uses an HDMI connector into the dashcam from the rear camera, versus a jack on the other side, so getting it through the grommet on the trunk door wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

    In the mid eighties I used to install vehicle alarms and (pre key fob remotes) had to drill holes in the bodywork; ) along with the PIR (passive infrared) sensors I installed 100s if not 1000s and it's the reason I'll get professionals to do installs on modern vehicles; ) as trims along with the ever decreasing panel/trim gaps mean your looking at a whole world of pain. Let the dealers break the trims and one time use clips and enjoy the world go by. I'd rather walk over nails than attempt these installs. Cheers

      I can tell you that I was very nervous when I installed it in my Niro EV, but having already done it in my Niro I was very confident with the EV6. The issue I encountered is that the panels are far more difficult to remove and I was not able to remove the trunk trim, which made it more difficult to install. It can, however, be done with patience and hot weather to make the plastic flexible, as shown in the video.

      When I had bought my previous car, the 2019 Niro EV, my wife got rid of her minivan and bought the 2019 Soul EV and has loved it. 3.5 years later the car has been flawless and only has 35,000km on it. The car is rated for 180km of range but right now, even though my wife drives more highway than before, she is getting 220km per charge! My Niro EV was, and my EV6 now is, the car that we use for long trips, but with the charging infrastructure we have here in Québec the Soul EV could easily be used for longer trips as long as you plan the stops with an app like ABRP. In the current market the Soul EV is still worth about what my wife paid for in 2019 when factoring in the government rebates she got! Which is ridiculous in my mind. I should make a video about it, but until then I hope this info answers your questions.

    I paid the (Kia) dealership to... deal with the installation. Just checked now, and the 6m rear cam cable is drawn a tiny bit differently from your first try. From 12:42 they seem to have gotten it under the tiny rear window there, kinda towards the release mechanisms for the seats (seen from under the rubber around the door frame). It goes under some red mechanism in there: between it and the inside wall. They also used different fuses (I provided them with fuse taps too, for my own sake just in case): P/SEAT DRV and 7 module.
    At any rate, there was enough cable to mount the cam on the right side of the central box thing on the window there, where it's recommended (not sure if it was in your case). However, this box/pillar blocks a little bit of the left view on the camera, specifically a bit below the center of the screen almost to the bottom. Unfortunately there's not enough cable to get it to where you placed your cam, which I'd probably like better, and I'm definitely not going to spend time re-routing the cable through the roof. Otherwise, why did I pay for the installation? lol. Might try a small extender cable even though Viofo claims that won't work (a reddit thread suggests otherwise), but most likely I'll just keep it as is.
    I got the Viofo 129 Pro Duo btw.

      At least you didn't have to deal with the hassle of doing it yourself. I do prefer having the camera centered like I did with mine though. There is no reason to not put it there as it does not interfere with visibility not the camera in the mirror housing. They probably put it there because the wire was to short and they did not want to do what I did 😎

      Did the reroute and installed the cam on the black box instead. Mostly painless, but I'm sure I'd have a harder time if I didn't use feeding thongs to help me, especially through the center pillar (which I didn't have to pop off or anything). Much happier with the view now!

    Thanks for doing this. I was waiting for your to post your video before i attempted the rear camera myself.
    What do you think about doing the installation in reverse? ie from the front to the back, that way the excess cable can be in the back hatch door, coil it up and hot glue it to the metal hatch.
    I am powering my dashcam from the rear-view mirror. bought a 10 pin connector and buck converter from aliexpress, that way you don't need to run power from they fuse box. the down side of that is the camera only comes on when the car is on. i can live with that.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 года назад +1

      Installing from front to back is an interesting idea. I would wrap the extra wire in electrical tape and try to make it immobile in the hatch, but I am not sure if that would work with the extra length. Although you could try running it in between the metal parts. The nice thing is that you could test it by winding the wire, taping it, then shoving it in the hatch before doing the installation, to find out. I am concerned about rattle though.
      As for the camera power connector, two things: (01) as you indicated, you lose parking mode and for me that is a no-go. (02) I would be concerned about an uncertified Aliexpress part being installed on my EV6. Especially since the mirror housing contains lots of sensors, the HDA camera, etc. I prefer the hardwire kit for my needs.

    • @pgee70utube
      @pgee70utube 2 года назад

      @@EV-olution i installed the rear camera wire from front to back and it worked well. The excess cable was coiled up and stuck to the metal of the rear hatch with 3M duct tape, so it won't rattle. There is plenty of space back there under the plastic cover. The connector on the rear-camera cable i used was slightly different to yours - it looked like a 3.5mm stereo (with 4 wires) at front end and a tubular connector at the rear, so it would have been easier to route front to back.
      re the power, there is a commercial kit called a dongar which connects to the mirror connector, but costs $AUD90 delivered. i did the same with $AUD8 of parts. i checked the current output and on a 12v battery before installing. it has been working without issue.

I had made a video about one a while ago, but the manufacturer did not play fair with Canadian pricing after I made the video so I never promoted the video. Those solutions are never truely wireless because power has to come from somewhere and the installation was complex, far more than you would think. I understand. @@EV-olution I find it frustrating that it boils down to US protectionism that limits the functionality of my vehicle. It's extremely frustrating because on 'MERICAN highways, you HAVE to have a dashcam to protect your interests. You'd think an Insurance Lobby would be all over using this function on newer cars to push for a change - but then Lobbyists only work for the oligarchs in the US. 💯

      @@ColeDowden I get your frustration. I also wish the manufacturers would be madated to offer this feature since it is a security issue. Until then, I will be installing dashcams in my cars 😎

    i would just get a different, possibly cheaper camera for the rear. plug it directly into the cigarette lighter in the trunk.

      The nice thing about a dual, or triple camera, is that the GPS data and time stamp are on all of the video streams and everything is syncronized when you view the video files, but I get what you mean.

    This was painful

      Yep. If I did not have all of my cameras to manage to record this, it would have been much easier.

    Better buy a Dongar splitter

      The Dongar adapter makes things easier, but does not allow for parking mode since the power source at the mirror is switched off when you power off the car. If you require parking mode like I do, then hardwire is the only option.

    so, I'm assuming the EV6 don't have a dashcam, bugger.

      Correct, the 4 cameras do not function as dashcams. You can learn more about it in my first video about this product.

    If you had bought a Tesla, you would not have to install a dashcam!

      If I had bought a Tesla I would have no buttons, which I prefer, I would not have an AWD hatchback, because at the time the Dual Motor Model Y was much more expensive, I would not have had a local service center, and the list goes on. I am very happy with installing a dashcam in my EV6, which has won multiple awards including car of the year 😎
