That's probably how it keeps popping up- keeping a sufferer doing their normal life just enough to get itself into something. Everyone effected by it is a potential carrier that can and will spread it if they get a chance.
I damaged my spinal cord from whiplash, and every so often it flares up (especially if I sleep on my neck wrong). This is almost exactly what it is like, minus the sloth, and you can still feel everything, but emotions, taste, and scents are a foreign concept. You are the sloth. You're the one driving, but you're also the one in the passenger seat. Your body is on cruise control for everyday tasks, and you can jerk the wheel in those brief moments of clarity. It's like you're trapped inside yourself, doing most the things you'd think of to do, but you're not sure if you're the one in control, or if it's just what you'd expect yourself to do and you're just reacting mentally the same way the thing controlling your body is acting out. I've screamed at myself in my own head before. I didn't just think it loudly, it was like I was kicked out of my own body, yelling at myself to do something different, and I heard myself. I did something different, but not to the extent of what other me was yelling about, so that way I could tell myself I could still hear my thoughts. The same, exact version of myself. One physical, one on the astral plane, operating just a hair out of sync to almost completely divide them into two separate entities. That's what it feels like, and maybe the sloth is just trying to find the body they lost. Memory is an abstract concept in that place after all. Or maybe, just maybe it's that hint of darkness I felt looming over me in that place. That seeping thought of madness, that it'd be good to cause bloodshed while I couldn't feel anything. That random thought from normal days to a loud whisper over my shoulder in this place. Good thing my body doesn't trust anyone but the original driver, otherwise I could've been on the news.
Since symptoms kick in hours after exposure to the sloth, I wonder if they could negate its effects by giving exposed personel immediate doses of amnesiacs? If they have zero memory of exposure to the sloth could that possibly work?
First time I went through this series, I mainly just had the audio on in the background. This is the first video I noticed the prolonged, slow zoom in on the model. That was a moment... imagine seeing the full picture, looking away for a few minutes, then turning back and he's unexpectedly VERY CLOSE TO YOUR FACE.
This made me think, I'm so used to hearing the scps point of view What if a civilian catalogued this event....then it hit me It'd be called a creepypasta :o
"And then a skeleton popped out. It was a hyper realistic skeleton with super hyper realistic blood." I kinda miss the old days of creepypasta... then I cringe at some of the shit tier stories I tried to make back then.
I think that loosing control of your life is probably one of most terrifying things that one can experience. has anyone ever NOT had a dream where something bad was happening to them and either they could do nothing or what they could do had no effect to stop it? imagine someone brutalizing you and you are fighting back with every ounce of your strength, but their grip and their body if like iron.
One dream I often think back on happened when I was just a kid in elementary school. In the dream (which spanned several days) I would experience an unexpected mental shutdown for hours at a time. I recall 'waking up' out of it and remembering acting lethargic and hazy in the classroom. Apparently it was an irreversible condition so the only thing the staff could do was put me in "special class" when it happened. One of these episodes I distinctly remember sitting at a desk in a circle, nodding off, and even drooling on the desk surrounded by all the other special kids in the class. I was effectively retarded just like them. And the scariest thing is I could only recognize this state once I woke up from it. Imagine the horror realizing that your life is slipping away from you before your very eyes. How small the day becomes when you sleep your life away. The last thing I remember from this dream was talking to an unknown friend alone out at recess, telling him how I was loosing my mind and that those moments weren't "me" anymore. The episodes were also becoming more frequent and I recognized that I would have less and less time in the day truly being alive, that one day I would never wake up from that mindlessness. What I remember most is that my words weren't worried or visibly scared, but sorrowful and emotionless. As if myself and the entire universe recognized the inevitability of it. I do not know the reason for why a dream about loosing one's mind was framed in such a maturely 'real' way to someone so young. But it was one of those dreams that aches inside even after you wake up. The kind of dream that feel like it lasted a miniature lifetime. Those two qualities of a nightmare can only be described as feeling literally like a _slow burn._ And to think this sort of thing happens like the infamous case of Karen Wetterhahn after organic mercury exposure.
no sorry i don't remember my dreams its very rare. and when i do its in parts and never really scary sometimes it follows something but not enough for me to imagine that is not some sorta artistic rendition. and when i'm aware of them everything is very blurry and almost all yellow. dreams are never clear even if i remember them.
My greatest fear is being unable to move/control my actions, so SCP's like this one and that disease that makes you unable to move unless you are looking at someone else (I do not remember exactly how it works) really make my skin crawl (pun intended).
Once i *[REDACTED]*, than my *[REDACTED]* *[REDACTED]* went and *[REDACTED]* into *[REDACTED]*, and then Dr.*[REDACTED]* hit a *[REDACTED]* nae nae and demolished the bourgeois and *[REDACTED]* *[REDACTED]* my *[REDACTED]*

Even if we saw a brief normal view of 2774 we wouldn't have been affected as we need to be in contact for over 5 seconds. If he changed it for 5 seconds, we would have noticed and turned away as he explained us how it worked.
This is the single most terrifying SCP imo. Being a zombie while you’re fully aware, being tormented and manipulated by the sloth that put you there. And all on top of that, having the carrot of lucidity dangled in front of you for just a few minutes a day sounds like hell.
They could seriously make this a horror mimetic plague in a movie. Imagine not being able to sleep for months, having no control over your body. Only few moments in the day to do something about it..
That'd be really interesting actually. Two ways that I theorize this can go, is the Sloth either A) Takes Control of shyguy just like all the other subjects (albeit more indestructible and hostile compared to the others.) or B) Shy Guy breaks out of containment and charges towards site 116, and slaughters every subject under its affect.
@@nadamada8328 yes exactly. I mean shyguy has been able to appear on ohter parts so easily. What if he's able to appear in different dimensions or something like that. Someone should test this out
Wouldn't it be interesting if TheVolgun was actually an SCP himself? And he (his persona) only becomes aware of this after reading it and has an identity crisis Just a weird thought...
This scp scares me the most even though it isn't real for some reason the fact that the foundation can't contain it, and it can just randomly appear any second on TV is what terrifies me.
Right around a minute and a half in, I finally realized why the sloth has a blue tint to it, and a shiver went up my spine as I looked into those horrible eyes.. Man, I love the SCP universe
When they started talking about how they couldn’t hold onto a thought for more than five seconds I couldn’t help but relate with my unmedicated ADHD 😂😂😂😂
Is that damn sloth getting closer as the video goes on, i was scrolling down the comments and when i scrolled up, sha-bam, like that scared the shit out of me.
I would love to believe that the creator of this intended the sloth to be a personification of apathy and laziness. Ive been that guy where it can feel like your body moves on it's own. You're fully conscious of your actions and their consequences yet you dont feel in control. Your body acts on impulse and even if you know full-well that you'll regret it later, you cant stop yourself.
I can answer that for you, I wrote 2774. That's definitely part of it, reflective of how I viewed myself at that point in my life. 2774 is also supposed to represent a lack of control, which was my main thing at the time. You can't control whether or not your colorblind, or if 2774 pops up in a picture or a TV near you. You can't control your body or what the sloth does. In the end, you can't control your own death. I also wanted to explore a moral quandary when faced by the Foundation. When I wrote this, I didn't want things to be black and white. The Foundation had an incentive to killing those people, but they also did it in an act of mercy. The SCP universe is full of monsters, but the people don't have to be included. All in all, though, I left a lot up for interpretation, and I think yours is well thought out and definitely applies. Hope this adds to things for you.
@@zkuysal This has always been one of my favorite SCPs, right up there with 3000 (my all-time favorite). Basically all of my favorites always had some kind of existential or lovecraftian undertone to them and 2774 is no exception. This SCP is genius, for a multitude of reasons. When I recently rewatched this, I immediately thought of my own life, how it can sometimes feel like there's a fog surrounding you. You feel like you're just a zombie, seeing yourself be self-destructive and apathetic, wanting to do something about it but feeling like you're unabe to. Eventually it does get to that point where you just want to end it because it feels like torture. Might I just say, you're an amazing writer, keep up the good work!
@@charlesquinton9127 thank you. I've had a number of personal issues that have kept me from writing the last few years, but I'm going to make an effort to write more stories, and I hope that they can live up to 2774. I appreciate your kind words, and hope to have new scps for you soon.
I have add and depression, and this one feels familiar. Sometimes it does feel like you are disconnected when you know that your inaction will lead to serious consequences but you can’t even feel the panic rising in your chest that should prompt you to intervene - like a mental version of retracting your hand from a hot stove. Instead - you calmly watch things come undone. There may be a leadeness, or a tightness in your chest/jaw, but still you watch it burn away around you without attempting to intervene…

Maybe they were referring to live as in things you see in person like plays, musicals, concerts, etc.

This is why I regard sleep paralysis as the most horrifying thing to ever happen to me. Despite other things I've experienced.
Prolonged sleep paralysis is one of the more horrifying things I've experienced.
Those two qualities of a nightmare can only be described as feeling literally like a _slow burn._
And to think this sort of thing happens like the infamous case of Karen Wetterhahn after organic mercury exposure.

This is the single most terrifying SCP imo. Being a zombie while you’re fully aware, being tormented and manipulated by the sloth that put you there. And all on top of that, having the carrot of lucidity dangled in front of you for just a few minutes a day sounds like hell.

Of all the awesome and scary SCP's I always find myself drawn back to this one after a while. I need to know more about this sloth!
Wow I thought the [REDACTED] was not as [REDACTED] as I remember.
This is one of those SCP's that you watch at 3 in the morning. It's expostentially terrifying.
