Practical, honest review, by a normal bloke who uses it like everyone does. Too easy these days to get swept up in the latest offerings from companies like Sky. Gonna stick with Sky Q, and now off to make the quarterly phone call to reduce my creeping bills. Thanks Daniel
Great honest view taking into account everyday use. Also highlights a lot of areas that other videos miss. But got to say wow the garden, the garden/trees must look real nice on a winter's day.
Glad I found your review, I’ve had two phone calls from Sky trying to sell this as an upgrade from my current Sky q with 3 mini boxes, as many have said after watching this, I’m sticking firmly with sky Q for the time being, great review..
Great unbiased review mate , you’ve just saved me a lot of money . I was waiting for a review like this . I was just invited to buy one but I didn’t as they didn’t have the colour I wanted . But after your great review I’m definitely sticking with sky q 👍
Nice one Dan. No fancy editing, mood lighting, etc. Just an actual user review which told me what I’ve been trying to find out for weeks. Agree with a lot of other comments regarding the recording function. Whack a hard disk in there and job done. Or just physically solder in the bloody q box or something!
Excellent review mate. It seems more hassle than it should be. Don’t know why sky just doesn’t allow recording onto a built in hard disk drive or SSD from the Sky guide. Definitely put me off
@@DannyLongGoogleplus I think your review has saved a lot of people a lot of disappointment if they were getting this as a Christmas present or supposed upgrade to Sky Q. Thx Daniel, "proper review with a proper cuppa" :) . Keeping my Q for a while longer I think, and I'll just upgrade my TV and replace sky sound box with a decent surround sound system
@@kev2427 Hi, basically it increases the bass and volume. I'm looking to move away from it and find a surround system that I can tweak the levels (bass etc) as I'm a pt time sound engineer. My sound box will be relegated to the garage/garden as a stand alone speaker for music.
I tested Sky Glass at the Highcross Shopping Centre today, and the picture quality is ok, sound quality is impressive, although I did notice the bottom bezel of the TV is thicker in person than it already is, but I suppose it's for the Dolby Atmos sound coming out of the front speakers. Edit: 16.07.22: The reason why it didn't turn on as you walked in front of it, is because enhanced mode wasn't enabled. I don't know how to enable it though.
Hopefully these vids have been some use for people. Reading the majority of the comments I think they have. I'll give it tomorrow and then take them down, the volume of abuse is incredible which I've had to remove / put up with. Crazy! If you've bought it good luck, and I hope you don't want to record Frasier!

Great help! I’ve been in two minds going for sky glass as I’ve not seen anywhere that you can add a “swivel” wall mounted bracket to angle it out to the room. From what I can see with what you’ve shown it’s a glorified streaming box. Think I’ll stick with the Q box till they bring out a better version. 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad I decided to renew my sky contract and stick with Sky Q for another 18 months. My main issue before your review was I didn’t want the tv as I have a OLED that’s only a year old. No idea why Sky can’t just give us a streaming box. But Glass interface looks a mess and it doesn’t do what was advertised. Customers have been misled. Thanks for the review.
Like all things there is always room for updates im sure they correct this in soon im still excited to get mine they will get it working seamlessly with all the different apps and Netflix im not panicking yet lol

Thank you for the honest review. Your frustrations seem like they would he my frustrations and tbh it just sounds like a firestick TV and the Playlist situation looks like a right nightmare, so I have also put a pin in upgrading to this. I was going to ask if you change over I guess all the films I have bought will not transfer so I would lose money in the process. Think I will stick to buying a new TV and keeping my sky q. I am quite sad though as I was fully sold into all the hype.
Madness that Sky would go through all the effort of putting out this huge bit of hardware but not include any SSD for recording programs. That was their whole USP. This is just a smart TV with a Sky looking OS that just presents you with the same things a fire stick or Apple TV does, streamed apps. Thanks for the review and jumping right to that point!

Nice video buddy. I originally signed up for preorders but after watching your video I’m going to give it a miss. Nothing wrong with the set up I have as my Tv is an LG OLED 55 inch and have a Sky Q HDR box and an LG sound bar and does the job just fine. I can’t believe how thick this thing is too as saw one on display at a Sky sales stand near where I live and that put me right off. I just can’t justify replacing my OLED TV with this behemoth of a telly.
Belting review…think I’ll end up lashing the remote at the tv tbh…the way it crashed on bake off is nuts…so so many adverts too cheers for the heads up 👍🏻
Blimey! Cheers for putting this up mate! You've probably saved me and a lot of other people a lot of hassle. I was really dead keen on getting one of these, but now you've shown us how it works - that whole using streaming services is a total dealbreaker for me! I thought it was gonna be that you could watch the 'recorded' (or rather saved programmes), as if they were saved on the hard disk except that they are accessed from the cloud. So that essentially it'd be the same as if you're watching a saved or recorded programme - just as it is with Sky Q. I'm not faffing about with links to the respective streaming services though. That's ridiculous. As you say - why would anyone with working Sky Q switch to that option! Cheers for the vid big time! How about you, do you think you'll be keeping it, or sending it back?
Arise, Sir Daniel for services to humanity. You sound very calm and good-natured and I feel your pain. My Glass would have been smashed to smithereens by now.How many people will be sending it back?
You’ve just made up my mind with this review. I was very keen to see how this would work but after watching this I don’t think I’ll be going for the Sky Glass. Once people realise what it CAN’T do, I don’t see this being a big hit tbh.
Great review, cheers. I wanted a new TV, already got Sky Q and mini box, and was in 2 minds about getting sky glass, but I’d hate the playlist feature, it would suck too that if the streaming service removes the programme you lose it too. Think I’ll stick with Q and get a decent OLED TV…👍
this kind of thing always happend when things are just released, there will be many more versions or revisions that will change or bring everything that people need or miss. I try to never buy straight away and let it all settle down and manufacturers weed out any issues or flaws then posibly jump in to purchase a year or so down the line. Great video Mate
This is what I wanted to see if I will take the plunge but always bit hesitant of new tech being the Guinea pig but on paper looks very good if it keeps crashing like that sky q was same when first started I’m still on sky + works fine think I will leave it for while great video and commentary thanks that would send me loopy I’m afraid so glad I found this
My biggest worry is that this could replace Sky’s satellite service. Companies almost always say this new product won’t replace their existing one but they go back on those words! I’ve been using Sky for 25 years and I have to say this Sky Glass is a TERRIBLE idea! I NEED the ability to record shows and know they’ll always be there until I delete them! I also feel that satellite is still a FAR better way to broadcast TV than streaming. It’s less prone to failure. As a cartoon lover who doesn’t live in London, I like being able to add London Live to my Sky+ or Sky Q box via manual tuning, so I can watch their London Live Kids programming! Also, do any of you ever stop to think about what we lost with certain new tech over the years? Anyone miss taping shows to VHS and being able to take them round friends’ houses? Anyone miss the guarantee of being able to get a hard copy of your favorite movie or TV show? I know we can still buy DVDs and Blu Rays now, but I don’t see much in the way of TV shows being released on either format anymore, kid’s shows at least! I do have the Bluey DVD on order and I can get The Loud House season by season if I import from France, but still! I especially miss not having to replace my phone every 3 or 4 years! In about 2 or 3 years, the battery in my iPhone goes wrong! Either that or they stop updating my current handset! One of modern tech’s biggest offenses is that the streaming market is now a wild west and companies like Disney and Discovery are closing their linear channels to get you to pay for their streaming services on top of your Sky subscription! We need to raise awareness of all this. Old tech did certain things better! This Sky Glass isn’t even 8K and it’s only 60hz! Had my 4K/3D LG TV not broke in 2019, I would’ve let my parents have it to replace their ageing Sony from 2007, and I would’ve made do with just the full HD Sharp TV my aunt gave me, while I wait til 8K TVs become more affordable and guaranteed to include HDMI 2.1! If I could make my own TV, it would: - have Freeview and Freesat built in - have Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and many other apps - be modular and easy to repair - you could add more HDMI ports, composite AV, even onboard storage for recordings - it would have a list feature like Sky Glass, but you would be able to record shows as well, as long as you have storage attached - it would be available in many sizes: 24 inch, 32 inch, 42 inch, 55 inch and 75 inch, and be available in HD, 4K and 8K - it would even have a few Sega Master System games built in, including Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy, Sonic, After Burner, Astro Warrior, Masters of Combat and World Grand Prix!
Great review mate. I was thinking of getting one myself but as many people have said no recording feature and as I've seen on other reviews the HD Quality isn't that great and plus I've got an Xbox X that needs proper HD quality. ill stick with what I've got
You prob have to go into settings to turn the motion for TV to turn on function mate. But I think the novelty would soon wear off as you don't want the TV coming on everytime you walk in front of it
Thanks for the video .very interesting to see a layman’s viewers everyday use without the advertising department of a multi billion dollar corporation interrupting and censoring what you talk about on that company’s latest product
Cheers Dan, that was an eye opener, I was thinking of getting this, 2 in fact for different rooms, changed my mind now, I got Sky Q a couple of months ago, hate it, prefer the old system, we watch tv in different rooms and the planner is a mish mash of both boxes, have to search through them to find the recording you want because they're both mixed together, stupid and a waste of time.
Thanks for this review of the Sky Glass TV. You and few other reviews ive seen on it have said the same..if you've already Sky Q then stay with Sky Q. Also based, on your review and a few others have touched on, this Sky Glass is more like a Sky Platform / Portal type device that happens to come with its own screen.and sound..its not a proper TV as such as we know them to be. You've shown all the TVs inadequacies, particualry how it doesnt record (what's that all about?) and how it does not readily resume from where you left off from watching a programme. Like you said its a mess. When I change my tv I'll stick with Sky Q and buy a Sony. You've saved me a right headache there. All the best to you kind Sir. Cheers.
So glad I did not jump in straight away to this. It seems like a mess and very much a downgrade packaged with a mediocre tv. Concept is great and defo the right way to go - but for now Im sticking with my dish sat in the back of my Garden. Thanks so much for posting this Daniel!
Thumbs up for the review. I've registered to order the very same one you've got, but now i'm not so sure. I'm too used to recording things on Sky Q and in our household we have a massive watchlist schedule (mainly for me) which Sky Glass can't replace I don't think..sad ;(
Just give it time and get use to the change. No big deal not being able to record as you just go to the TV guide and add to your planner like you would with Netflix. I spent all day playing around with it. Takes time to work it out. Plenty of RUclips videos and there will be more. You have 30 days to change your mind. Works out cheaper for me and better quality images with no picture loss in the rain.
If you go into settings you can turn on motion detection I'm currently waiting to get my order code to buy my sky glass my main reasons are we all know what happens when it rains plus no box or dish needed one plug as everything is built in currently sky Q customer
Thanks for sharing this. Think I’ll renegotiate our Sky Q box for another year and hopefully V2 will be around then with all the bugs smashed and recording readded
I think the moral of the story is if you already have Sky Q and have no issues with the signal, don’t bother with sky glass, this is especially true if you also already have a decent TV and Soundbar/ Home Cinema set up
Was excited about Sky Glass but after watching your review it’s not the deal breaker Sky keep talking about. I’ll be sticking with Sky Q because of the simplicity. I’m from N Ireland and have access to the three Irish channel’s RTE 1.Network 2 and TnaG will the Irish broadcaster allow Sky stream especially Irish racing and GAA highlights etc.
Don't take this wrong but I'm glad I haven't had to go through this process. Thank you for the video but I will make do with NOW TV and my BT Vision box, these don't match up to the features of Sky Q but will do for me Perhaps with updates your experience will improve with time
From a Sky Forum: " You cannot record in the traditional sense as there is no hardrive for video storage on device. However everything broadcast will be stored on Sky servers. If you select a programme and "add to playlist" it will stored on a saved section in your account, which you can then access for up to a year." I guess the 3rd party apps like C4 iPlayer etc.. cant do that, but look at Sky stuff
Like it good honest review no bs no paid review I’ve got mine coming on Saturday I’m like you can’t have a dish no Virgin in my area semi decent BT internet only so just the product I’ve been waiting for

Thanks for the review, helped me decide to stick with q! Cheers
Same here that was my understanding but this is definitely a downgrade. What a shame.
@@RH-nk7eo couldn’t agree more cancelled mine now
Yea I agree - think it's a deal breaker if you can't record 1 future program without having to add something to the playlist.
Dealbreaker for me, thank you for saving me a lot of hassle 👍
Same for me I was desperate to get this but not any longer , I will keep sky Q and pay monthly for a new tv at 0% interest
Was going to order it tomorrow but seeing it think I will wait as I’ve got no problem with my sky q
Arise, Sir Daniel for services to humanity. You sound very calm and good-natured and I feel your pain. My Glass would have been smashed to smithereens by now.How many people will be sending it back?
Very kind. Take a look at follow up ruclips.net/video/tC2MlcZi-iI/видео.html
Thanks for this video mate, made me smile a great deal. Can't decide whether to cancel my order not now (current Sky Q customer)!
Cancel!
Good honest down to earth review...thanks
You have done a brilliant job thanks
You’ve just made up my mind with this review. I was very keen to see how this would work but after watching this I don’t think I’ll be going for the Sky Glass. Once people realise what it CAN’T do, I don’t see this being a big hit tbh.
What is it you cant do?
wow, this is putting me off of buying this thing now. Thanks for the upload, should help loads of people this.
Thank you! I have Sky Q with an OLED TV, I’ll be keeping that.
Cheers! Exactly what was needed.
I heard they are going to do it without the TV and just the new sky puck that connects to your TV.
this kind of thing always happend when things are just released, there will be many more versions or revisions that will change or bring everything that people need or miss. I try to never buy straight away and let it all settle down and manufacturers weed out any issues or flaws then posibly jump in to purchase a year or so down the line. Great video Mate
Totally agree. The 2nd or even 3rd generation would be very interesting I think.
This is what I wanted to see if I will take the plunge but always bit hesitant of new tech being the Guinea pig but on paper looks very good if it keeps crashing like that sky q was same when first started I’m still on sky + works fine think I will leave it for while great video and commentary thanks that would send me loopy I’m afraid so glad I found this
A good honest review thanks for the info very useful
If I could make my own TV, it would:
- have Freeview and Freesat built in
- have Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and many other apps
- be modular and easy to repair
- you could add more HDMI ports, composite AV, even onboard storage for recordings
- it would have a list feature like Sky Glass, but you would be able to record shows as well, as long as you have storage attached
- it would be available in many sizes: 24 inch, 32 inch, 42 inch, 55 inch and 75 inch, and be available in HD, 4K and 8K
- it would even have a few Sega Master System games built in, including Alex Kidd, Wonder Boy, Sonic, After Burner, Astro Warrior, Masters of Combat and World Grand Prix!
Great review mate. I was thinking of getting one myself but as many people have said no recording feature and as I've seen on other reviews the HD Quality isn't that great and plus I've got an Xbox X that needs proper HD quality. ill stick with what I've got
Is it not a 4k to set?!
Cheers Dan, that was an eye opener, I was thinking of getting this, 2 in fact for different rooms, changed my mind now, I got Sky Q a couple of months ago, hate it, prefer the old system, we watch tv in different rooms and the planner is a mish mash of both boxes, have to search through them to find the recording you want because they're both mixed together, stupid and a waste of time.
what are you talking about - Sky q satellite boxes share the same planner / hard disk of the main box - all the recordings in the usual place
I'm too used to recording things on Sky Q and in our household we have a massive watchlist schedule (mainly for me) which Sky Glass can't replace I don't think..sad ;(
Thanks Daniel, very informative.
Good honest review mate, sky are really pushing this, i wonder why.
Think of the money that can be saved when you lay off all those engineers
Mines on its way now!!!! And I'm shitting myself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You have the right to cancel
Just give it time and get use to the change. No big deal not being able to record as you just go to the TV guide and add to your planner like you would with Netflix. I spent all day playing around with it. Takes time to work it out. Plenty of RUclips videos and there will be more. You have 30 days to change your mind. Works out cheaper for me and better quality images with no picture loss in the rain.
@@derrickknight4985 I've had it on for about 3 hours,Ps5 aswell and love it
@@jimtheyid PS5. Is great on there. Waiting for COD Vanguard. So many negative comments on Sky glass before anyone has given it a chance.
Very good review could you look at connecting a usb drive to the tv and playing movies photos music on the tv
It won't allow it unfortunately
Excellent video! Rubbish TV aside, I love your laid back approach… “sorry, I’m just having a cup of tea”. Legend 👍
Great review thanks never getting that now 👍
Cracking review. Needs a ground up rework after they add internal storage !!
Thanks for the review mate
If you go into settings you can turn on motion detection I'm currently waiting to get my order code to buy my sky glass my main reasons are we all know what happens when it rains plus no box or dish needed one plug as everything is built in currently sky Q customer
This is a dealbreaker if you can't skip ads well on terrestrial tv - Thats half the point on a PVR
Great review 😁 I'll wait till it gets a series link update ....if not I'll be sticking with sky Q
Wow a video of the real truth 👏 that's a lot of adverts think I will just stick to Netflix thanks 👍👌
Thanks for the honest review, I have pre ordered one but I think after watching this I’m going to cancel it as I have sky q
Don't take this wrong but I'm glad I haven't had to go through this process.
Thank you for the video but I will make do with NOW TV and my BT Vision box, these don't match up to the features of Sky Q but will do for me
Perhaps with updates your experience will improve with time
From a Sky Forum: " You cannot record in the traditional sense as there is no hardrive for
video storage on device. However everything broadcast will be stored on
Sky servers. If you select a programme and "add to playlist" it will
stored on a saved section in your account, which you can then access for
up to a year."
I guess the 3rd party apps like C4 iPlayer etc.. cant do that, but look at Sky stuff
Like it good honest review no bs no paid review I’ve got mine coming on Saturday I’m like you can’t have a dish no Virgin in my area semi decent BT internet only so just the product I’ve been waiting for
