‘A pixielocks census is not fun for anyone but me’ are you kidding!!!! That would be so freaking fun! Especially if you do a video going through the results and data. Mr Hank Green has done a nerdfighter census and census analysis since 2013 and it’s so freaking fun every time I absolutely love to see how communities are structured and change over time and all that stuff

honestly same??? It was either that or the "dressing goth" video (I wish they would've mentioned that it's a music subculture in hindsight lol but I didn't know better at the time either). I just really liked their personality and felt like it stood out in the youtube landscape at the time, and was super interested when I went to their channel and saw that they also made mental health content, something that I was super interested in at the time (and still am sometimes) so I followed! Can't believe it's been that long lol

i dress in very 80s punk grunge kind of outfits. i've got a battle jacket, i wear spikes and studs and chains, and i have a messy flame red mullet that i cut and dye myself in my bathroom. and i love it. i've never been happier with my appearance. one of the best things that i remember, i was at a mall with my friend. and this older man walked up to me, and was like 'i love your outfits! i dressed just like you when i was your age!'. he was so happy and i was so happy and it genuinely made my life

To me "flattering" mainly says normatively beautiful. It is something I try hard to work against because me and people around me are constantly being harmed by those skinny(ED-d), white, eurocentric, cishet and ableist ideals. To some degree they are also about being sellable which is another whole can of fried worms.

I have a weird outlook on this topic. Growing up where I have, and still currently living there, I'm not able to fully dress how I want. It would be dangerous tbh for me to dress in clothes that are more feminine and frilly and adorable. So I've never thought that one day I'd be too old to dress in an alternative way, it's always been the other way around. Ever since I was little, I've been waiting to grow older, to move out of this area, and to dress the way I've always wanted to. To present how I'd like to. If that makes sense. So obviously I will always be in support of the people who are "too old" for alternative fashion. Because one day I hope to be able to too :)

I don’t dress alt, but I remember being a kid obsessed with the colour pink and thinking “I’m never gonna be a boring adult, I’m gonna wear pink forever!” And now as someone nearing 30, I think of my younger self with so much love and joy and dress to make HER happy (because she is me!). Being older is great because you just care so much less what other people think and are so much more sure of what feels right to you. I think that probably accounts for why you sounded more unsure in the old video as opposed to you now. I’ve been watching you since you made the video about pompom Halloween pumpkins. 😝 And I’ll still be here when you’re a fabulous 70 y/o fashion icon. 🩷💛💚🩵💜

What’s such an interesting antithesis to this topic is being someone who has watched friends, peers, and content creators dress in the way you want for years and finally having the courage to dip a toe into alt fashion as an adult. It’s a whole new ball game that is both incredibly liberating but also very scary. Not only are you finally finding acceptance with your body and understanding how to dress best for your body- you’re incorporating fashions that you always dreamed of wearing but never had the courage or financial ability to pursue. Anyway, great video as per usual!

I'm 34... Still dressing alternatively. I started in 6th grade (roughly 11/12), it wasn't a phase! People who know me ( and a lot that don't) appreciate it. Now that I'm older, people don't specifically pick on me.... which is nice! I also work in an office, totally run by ladies who love the way I dress. Love that, and completely see my privilege in it. I've also worked in places where I had to wear uniforms and hated it! I have been watching your videos for so long, and remember you posting this! Get it bean. Much love all around.

Something clicked when I hit 39 and I started to realize that life is short and people should be happy rather than live in fear over what others will think of them. I'm now 41 living my best jirai and yami kawaii fashion lifestyle. I've got my big platforms, my twintails, my two-toned half and half hair, and I love every day. Once I got through that first month and realized no one said anything mean (if anything I got more compliments than ever before), it just got easier to be my authentic self. As someone with social anxiety and agoraphobia, it was a BIG step. On days where it gets a little hard I just keep icon Betsey Johnson in my mind and power through.
Also, I love that you literally jump scared yourself with your own edit. It's forkin cute.

I think part of why I prefer Twitch/streaming is after a month or so the evidence (VODs) disappears so if I made a mistook or said something weird or my makeup was too extra that day after a while I never have to see it again lmao. So yeah I fully get being hella weirded out watching yourself. As far as the topic of AeStHeTiC goes...
I've never been brave enough to dress how I want which is partly why I've always loved your channel and admire you as a person. I live vicariously through you (not in a creepy way), you dress how I wish I could dress, you literally have my dream home (pastel rainbow walls!? ALL THE YES), so I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment but unfortunately am not at liberty in my life to be who I want to be.
And yeah just as you said "that's just frickin' life, man". But how wonderful that there are lovely creators like you who are kind enough to share your lives with us so we can at least watch what we love if we can't do it ourselves - so thank you for being you [then and now] and letting us see it. ❤

I spent so long trying to fit in, I am happy to stand out now. This year I am working on getting more color in to my wardrobe and I am so excited to evolve once again as a person.

Life is already hard as it is and way too short, ain't nobody gotta tell me what I should wear or not! I'm 36, close to 37, and just started rocking colorful hair for the first time 2 years ago, and aim towards more colorful clothes and I looooove it! Aging is a privilege, and the more you age, the more you learn to say ''F that, I'm gonna do what I want!'' I too am very inspired by Baddie Winkle, and I decided to channel my inner Baddie right away, I don't want to wait to be 70-80 for that!

Watched you since 2014 when I was 15 years old, I am 25 now, so that makes it 10 years! I still dress alternatively and have been rocking the same green bowl-cut for 4 years. I am in graduate school now but worked as an occupational therapist for 7 months after my undergraduate. My alternative style a big part of my identity and it might make it more likely that I will be rejected a job. My experience is though that the jobs that will accept me are simply just a better fit and will make me feel that much more comfortable to show up everyday!

I remember watching the original video of 7 years ago, I was in Middle School and very very sad about myself and I was trying to be dark and gloomy so people wouldn't look at me but that alongside a bunch of your other videos really showed me I could be myself! It's so crazy to look back and see how things have changed but they're still kind of the same :] this was a sweet video

    3. Um hold on, I am here for a pixie census??
    4. My fave fashion color hair dye brand is Danger Jones atm, but they’re unfortunately pro (only as far as I know)🥲 it’s soooo pigmented tho omg, I adore it

That was the first ever Pixie vid that I watched. I remember I was 24 and feeling so crappy because I had never ventured outside of my grunge phase and wanted to start wearing what made me happy. My friends would always made fun of me. I'm 31 and pretty much only wear color.

I work at a retirement home and I have unnatural colourful hair,7 facial piecings, 1 inch streached ears and some large visible tattoos and i have been absolutely blown away with the amount of residents that tell me they love my colourful hair or even complements on my tattoos and piercings. Even some of the residents have blue or pink or purple hair and its so freaking cute to see the little old ladies rocking the fun colourful hair! There are residents that still show up for dinner in a full face of makeup, hair done, wearing a sparkily pink blazer and matching slippers because thats who they are and thats what they love. I cant wait to be a weird old lady covered in tattoos telling the young people about my life! At the end of the day as long as your not hurting others who the heck cares? Wear what makes you happy because life is too short to be dressing for other people's approval

I had a bit of a crisis in my early 20s about needing to 'tone down' my looks. Looking back on those photos I look so uncomfortable and self conscious. But now at 27 I'm more colorful and over-the-top than ever and love how I dress! I'm currently enjoying fashion more than I ever have!

started watching your vids when i was probably around 16 and now im 25 so this was def nostalgic lol. and i feel like ive only dressed weirder the older ive gotten tbh, tho ive definitely gotten WAY better at styling things. and i think that once you get out of high school especially you get way less negative comments about dressing weird irl and way more people complimenting your style and vibes.

  • @maryn7097

Lol ok so what’s funny is that I’m finishing up my masters in textiles and have been in and out of the corporate fashion world and what no one tells you is how HARD it is to navigate how to dress as a fashion professional. Like it’s so subjective and depends entirely on the occasion, location, and company/brand. I attended the National Retail Federation conference in January and had to figure out “how do I show my pov as a designer but also be appropriate for a more mainstream professional environment but also be practical for NYC in January?” 😂 (my answer to that ended up being plaid dresses and suits in non-neutral colorways and it worked pretty well). As someone more fully developed in my identity as a designer now, I mostly lean into denim and doing interesting things with denim in terms of finishes and colors (like I identify as a denim designer, have worked in denim, and am actively seeking to specialize in denim with my career going forward) and that totally flies with where I’m at with my career, but would be completely inappropriate attire for other fashion brands.
Mostly at the end of the day “rule of cool” applies- as long as something looks cool/good/polished, you can probably get away with it. It’s why I now pay someone to dye my hair pink instead of doing it myself (my hair porosity just doesn’t lend itself to good results at home) and am glad my tattoos have all been pretty good (lol also helps that my visible tattoos are sewing related).
