I used to drive one of these for work and found them to be a nice comfortable car to spend a day in. Plenty of poke, decent manual gearbox and felt solid. I'm an old git now but I'd enjoy having another one today.
Good night ben love you and your vehicles and your videos of you and bringing back vehicles back to life keep up the great work you have done on your you tube channel
Brilliant video, loved every minute of it, from watching you get the Omega up and running through to your journey through Europe on the way to the Nurburgring and the couple of laps. As a lover of Omega's myself I too can appreciate the quality of these amazing cars. I've had three of them, two preface lift CD's and my present one which is a facelift CDX 2.0 16v with full unmarked light grey leather interior, I've owned this amazing car since 2006 and it's the best car I have ever owned and that includes an SL Mercedes Benz plus other high end cars over a 45 year period. You've got a fan for life, I love your videos my friend.
I retired from the Police several years ago. I spent 14 years on Traffic; we had the MV6 Saloon & Estate version (manual)... they were bullet-proof engines & great to drive. They replaced the old 24V Senator; which was also a great car. Just before I retired we got the BMW 530 D (manual)... not very reliable & went into 'limp-mode' if it got a thrashing. We also had a couple of Volvo 850 T5's; really quick in a straight line, but suffered massive power-on understeer, no engine breaking, huge turbo-lag & you could mash a front set of tyres within a month! They were only really useful on the motorway, no good around towns. Anyway, those were the days 🙂
They built thousands of V8 cars, Holden Commodores, built in Luton and shipped to Australia. If you wanted one in Britain, it had to be ordered in Australia and shipped to UK with the import tax. Crazy seeing it was built in Luton to start with! The British car industry at its self destructing best.
I like that electronic computer in the dash. Our Cadillac Cateras didn't have those, that I've seen. Would like to have seen one of those. Liked seeing that part of Europe. I was in Normandy in 1983, as a student. My Auto Exposure then was riding in a 2CV, a Peugeot 505, and an Audi. I would like to drive through France, Belgium and Germany. Liking the video series. Now I want a Catera....
Watched some of your resto vids & working back through earlier vids now. All great stuff, please keep it up. I'm a bike fan so your nurburg is my IoM TT. Its like a holy pilgrimage. An event that everyone should experience. As a youngster I had typical (crap, rusty, unreliable - but easy to fix) british cars. I learnt so much. I rebuilt a 2.3 Victor engine and swapped out my 1.8 in my Magnum. The gearing was all wrong after (so needed a 5th gear), but boy did it accelerate. Believe me, an XR3 eater. Seeing you wielding panels reminds me of similar times - the magnum had rotted quite badly & I had to replace sills, wheel arches etc, but without the luxury of a car lift. Still have the scars to show. Similarly with a Worsley Hornet - floor pans, sills, A panels & wings! Anyway just keep up the hard work, most enjoyable.
Excellent thanks Baza I need to head to the TT one day to see what all the fuss is about it sounds like something I'd enjoy a lot! I did watch Higgins go around it in the Subaru and thought it was incredible. appreciate the kind words!
My dream is to go to the nurburgring one day but because of health reasons I can't so I play it on GT7 instead but I love the omega V6 love the sound they give
You stayed at the same place I stay when I go to the Nurburgring, last time I went Johans the owner had an awesome track-prepped Audi A3. I'll be going on my own for the first time this year too
Balls of steel to undertake such a feat on your lonesome. I once crossed the border from Cornwall into Plymouth riding solo. Shit myself, they drive like absolute animals over there.
Wow a long day topped off with a lap of the Ring, sadly I've only ever done it on a PS4 but amazing all the same, looking forward to the next vid on the playlist, as you said "happy as a pig in shit" lol!!!
I remember WAP, I managed the Ericsson Symbian R380 smartphone with a WAP browser, was living in Warrington then, Now US.. love a int with you one day Ben
Had a 3 litre Elite omega (N plate) around 1999/2000. Great car. The engine sound was brilliant. Vauxhall/Opel did some great large capacity cars in those days. My one used to eat seat motors at £250 a throw so it had to go. The Volvo T5 was an even better car than that. You mention the Peugeot 605 I used to use one a lot back in the 90s. Bloody rubbish. They had an interesting fault where the brakes would let go on long descents. Took it up with the dealers and they said they all dud it!!! You forgot the Jags. The XJ140 V8 was an excellent car. Still is!
I had a T reg vauxhall omega but it was the 2.5 V6 model I do miss the noise that it makes with an air filter on, some young lad crashed in to me and it was beyond economical repair and can I say one the safest cars
You were likely reminiscing about 'Project Gotham Racing 2' on the original XBOX, which was the first one to have the nordschlife. This was the successor to MSR on the Dreamcast (hence you thinking of the Sega connection) Gran turismo 4 was my first exposure to it, which would have been around the same year.
Awesome vid pal, love the omega, have owned one an only issue was as you found the auto gearbox is lazy, you should take the e39 bmw round the nuirburg as, the semi auto box is much more reliable, But great content bro keep uploading an I'll keep watching
Great work Ben, already subbed from 1st watch, Merc 190 .... Question that had me puzzled on this... how you able to drive in Europe now ? , a uk license & insurance now longer covers ..
I had a Senator years ago (straight 6) for tips around the M25 to work. Great car until the auto box developed leaky hydraulics. In the end, the chassis rails turned to dust resulting in an MOT failure. Did me well for years but a sad end....
That fludding, the worst was that it was in the middle of winter at tempter of - 15 Celsius and they had no electrucety. Emagin it. Even I donated to help the comunety
Love your channel! Just found it! But your uploads! Are long. try spilling your content in half or something , with a interesting thumb nail in between! Your channel is a great find for me!
Next time in Germany try Müller Milch. Now that's good and get a Mett Brötchen. Don't worry its raw sossidhe meet but its safe to eat. In France get a sandwich au fillette Américain. Alsow raw meet and safe to eat. Just the best . In france also try Maroilles chese. Verry stinky but realy good.
Been watching your channel for a while now ,I have to say Germany drew me in .a couple of questions what is your first name and how much roughly did your trip cost would love to have a go I have a saab 93 2.0t areo 210bhp would love to try and kill it there
British Customs eh. Searching vehicle Like That which his leaving the country. Funny you can't get out and you character back unless you have arrived by an inflatable.
Oh Ben, falling for the anti-EV propaganda are we? The vast majority of "touring EVs" can charge from 10% (or less) to 80% well inside of half an hour now days (thank you Tesla for pushing that, at least). Love your content, keep up the good work.
I do enjoy your videos and was a real petrolhead in the past, which helps, but you really need to get to understand EVs more and what they’re really like (not just what the ‘popular’ press says).
I don't get the fascination with the Nüburgring. You take your car there a car that spend it's life on slow britsh motorways and then you been it in Germany. Oh yea i alwais get checked on my way into the UK. Its reducolus but they got to do there job dont they.
Great stuff! Thanks for taking us with you, really enjoyed the trip so far!
I used to drive one of these for work and found them to be a nice comfortable car to spend a day in. Plenty of poke, decent manual gearbox and felt solid. I'm an old git now but I'd enjoy having another one today.
That's an auto he's driving.
@@andrewmolloy5095 Which is why I commented on the manual box...

Lesson to us all... Pick a dream and go and f!king do it!! Thanks for sharing.
Epic car.The old bill were sorry to see them go. Best police car they ever had.

Really enjoying these omega vids, they were such a nice car so comfy ❤
Great video. That car sounds wonderful!
Thanks Mike, you're making me miss it!
I still love this episode 🎉 fun fact: when trucks block the lanes in order to take over each other it's called "Elefantenrennen" - elephant race
Really enjoyed the trip and the car did really well after her long drive to get there look forward to more fun
Just stumbled across your channel and enjoying it
Great content bud

Top work mate! This video has made me tempted to take my Alfa GTV to the ring! Well done sir! 👏
Really enjoyed this, felt like a passenger (in a good way), learned a lot too thank you

Thanks mate appreciate you saying so, put a lot of work into it. Absolutely best time of my life though! Omegas are the best.
My dream is to go to the nurburgring one day but because of health reasons I can't so I play it on GT7 instead but I love the omega V6 love the sound they give
I play it on GT7 too they've done a great job of it, I wish they'd put the Omega in the game though! How many laps are you on so far on the ring?
@@tastyclassics I would say I've done about 600 laps as it is addictive
@@shaneduffill7901 that's a lot of laps, you're not missing out too much then, saving a lot of money too 😅👍
You keep it up mate definitely enjoy it love the mv6 👌🏻👍🏼
Loved this video, I feel the need for a road trip. You've made me miss my Omega Estate super comfortable horrible 2.2diesel though.
Not my trousers, that made me laugh out loud 😂
Used to be a valeter for a vaulkshal dealership when these came out, nice cars
Amazing video mate, I'm tempted to do it.
Great video, Ben
Great footage . I've been meaning to do the nurburg ring for years. I'm going to organise some friends to go next year.

Thanks mate! Nothing has changed for driving in Europe, as long as it's in your policy it's all good, also, they'd have to catch you :D
I really hope next time you go to NR you could collaborate with Misha Charoudin. He could give the Omega or some other youngtimer a good run.
nice work man, i will go to the ring on oct1 with an omega 2.6 v6 manual 😎
Jealous you're going in a manual that's my next plan! Let me know how you get on

Surprised the border force search didn't go under the bonnet.
V8 Omega was scrapped because the flex plate between engine & gearbox couldn't handle 6000 rpm or higher & no other gearbox was available that could.
