Back Matt Gray's "Refourmation" C64 remix album @ www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
Developed and published by System 3 in 1988
Continuing System 3's ground breaking Last Ninja trilogy, Last Ninja 2 leaves the Eastern mythos of feudal Japan behind, travelling through time to modern-day Ney York City. Armakuni continues his mission of vengeance against evil Shogun Kunitoki, but is the legendary shadow warrior prepared to deal with street-smart punks and modern technology?
Considered by most C64 owners to be the pinnacle in the LN series, Matt Gray's stellar soundtrack is a huge part of the game's success. Be sure to check out Matt's "Reformation" series of C64 remix albums, available for purchase over @ c64audio.com/pages/matt-grays...

You know, I can't remember which part of the Ninja code encourages teabagging one's opponents upon defeat. ;-)
Only who played in in 90s knows the magnificence of the music, graphic and the whole adventurous theme of it!!
In summers, before breakfast after it, before lunch after it.. in midnight ...how relentless.. aggressive tries
hahah me too. i played hundred times trough.
Not 90s LOL. This was mid to end 80s
@@aleksanderh.5407 yes, time runs so fast.
It was status,
- xxx did Last Ninja 2 with just one life 😄
I played it 1988...
Damn!!! The music gave me chills back in 1988! And it still does today... Amazing Especially the music from central park map 4:30
One of my absolute favourite retro tracks!
I still remember loading this up on the C64 for the first time - I'd already played the original Last Ninja and I was expecting the same kind of rural Japanese motif with the music so Last Ninja 2 blew my Goddamn mind with its urban semi-techno beats.
I feel sorry for anyone, who played NES version, "soundtrack" was not even 10% as good as on C64 version.
The Basement level intro music at 26'26 = like really the spirit of c64 sound at its purest.
My favorite game of the Last Ninja series. I think i was 5 or 6 when i played this.
My all time favorite game
I used to dream about it when I was a child, about the levels I couldn't reach but read in walkthroughs

Fondly remember the day I purchased this from a long-closed shop in Wood Green, along with Bubble Bobble on the Amiga. Not a bad days shopping, and couldn't wait to get home! I'm pretty sure the cartridge version had a nice looking animated intro.
I think LN2 remix had the animated intro, not sure about the regular version
@Ray C I spent many enjoyable hours playing Last Ninja 1 & 2 and Bubble Bobble on c64. You and I are Gamer Old Gees. lol
@@Tehui1974 back when games were fun and challenging. Not like today's pay to win schemes.
8 bit madness. Possibly the best score on a commodore game.
Classic game. I've played it so many times.
This was so heavily traded on the school yard back then.
The best action adventure on the C64.
Hate to admit it.. but this is how I discovered this wonderful game. It came crammed on a tape with soilder of light.. which wasn't so good. And joe blade 2. Which wasn't good either. Ln2 however, changed my gaming life. The music. The atmosphere. There was nothing like it before.
Holey smokes. This music. Just wow.And really well done video. Thanks to the uploader.
Awesome music!!!
Really a great game and a MASTERFUL music. It's on the level of the composing in Doom1.
Was only a kid but could never get past the first section. Now I know!
This brings back memories ...I was a REAL Last Ninja fan. Loved the series. My favourite was the first. Dont know how many times i played these games, but it was a lot. Thank you for bringing back these memories.
My jaw was on the ground watching you dance around those guys and effortlessly killing them. How do you get that good? I'm 45 and have played this game for years without being that good
Thank you for this video. I can remember playing this 1991 at the age of 10. Never could get past the Central Park Stage.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Some of the puzzles were bloody difficult in this game, especially when you're still in primary school! Of course, no internet back then to lookup walkthroughs and Google the answers! I was actually able to complete this game back then, boy did I feel proud... LOL!
Welcome to the club. I could reach the Street level only once and no matter how many hours I tried, couldn't finish it
absolute classic,nice work
Basement track is the best!
That soundtrack !!!!
Instant-Like 😍😍😘
I absolutely love that game ❤
banger soundtrack
Very nice playthrough, Al. Would have been even better if you had waited for Superman to fly by at 40:29
Anyway, I remember playing through the cassette (!) version of this game, following a walkthrough in a Zzapp! 64 issue. I was in for an afternoon of fun each time!
To be honest I totally forgot that was even in there. Glad you enjoyed it though 🙂
Zzapp 64, Julian Rignall, good times.
@@v3teran75 Oh yeah definitely. Without the complete walkthrough in Zzap 64, I probably wouldn't have reached the end of the game. I had it on TAPE, mind you ! I would spend literal hours playing/waiting for the next level to load while listening to cool music. I even copied the walkthrough on my website (that was before Iain Black made all of Zzap available). I could go on and on about Zzap.
Still love playing this game today. Wasn't able to finish it back then though but can now. I'm trying for a no death clear.
PIXEL PERFECT! THANK YOU!!
Great quality!
Last Ninja collection was best made on C-64, even the giant Amiga couldn't come near last Ninja 1 & 2 versions, except last Ninja 3 has coolest graphics on Amiga 500.
7:59 - 75 cents hotdog? Take me back!
Bloody classic
Excelente video, en mi niñes nunca pase de las 3 primeras pantallas.
Oh yes...I certainly rember this game -spent countless of hours completing this ultra-legendary game without cheating. I was mere eleven when it came out. We of that generation were used to mega-difficult video/computer games taking months and sometimes years to complete. Most kids of today hasn´t got the patience as it seems hence games of today are tragically easy.
Especially when they can pay to win with microtransactions.
❗a highest quality Game , that I didn't know about , until recently . Alongside Bat-Man the Movie, also on the Amiga
Stunning bro, I love FF
Was playing this game on my C64 1990 and 1991 still got both the C64 and the Original game on Cassette but unfortunately the game stop loading after some point. Then a capacitior in the RF modulator exploded when I tried it 2015
This series impresses me with how ambitious it is. I trust your description that the music was the main selling point, but the gameplay doesn't look half-bad either, and IMO the animation of the people is very well done. Question though: could you sit and enjoy the loading music between each level and press a button when you were ready to advance to the next stage, and was being able to listen to the entire song a standard feature of Commodore 64 games?
It depends on how the game was coded. Some games took longer to load than the actual piece of music, so you'd get to hear the complete track anyway. Others (like LN2) were composed to be longer than the loading time, but it doesn't move on until your ready. It wasn't uncommon for folks to simply stop the tape during the loading process just so they could listen to the music (especially if the actual game was rubbish).
The other thing that was pretty common for C64 games was inclusion of "mini games" that would load into memory and you could play while the main game was loading (search for C64 Invade-a-load and you'll get a good idea) - again, not uncommon to stop the tape and play the mini-game if it was better than the main game on the tape!
I was around back then and the main selling point definitely wasn't "music", it was "ninja". That, and the superb graphics. That said, of course everyone liked the music as well :)
One of those games that did everything right.... the music... the graphics... the gameplay... everything. Yet, somehow it just didn't quite land.
The Last Ninja 2 sold over 5 million copies, lol.
Didn't quite land? Surely you jest! This game didn't just land, it landed with a vengeance (pun intended!) LN2 contains some of Matt Gray's best work and is consistently voted one of the best-selling C64 games.
It looks like you played my EasyFlash version of the game :)
Very likely - CRT images are much simpler to deal with when recording 😄
👏🏻
0:46 starts the rub ..! COME ON!
❤🎉
1MHz procesor game.
Back when programmers were using every scrap of processing power and every byte count.
unfortunately game motor is lost
I think that last ninja 2 remix and 3's music is often ignored which really shouldn't be.
Ln remix sewer level will always hold a place in my heart even though its a note to note rip off of merry Xmas mr Lawrence.
@@trydowave Turrican and Katakis did the same with various other tracks with a great degree, I have a soft spot for the Sewer theme in Remix
spoiler : not longplay at all
