"Last Ninja 2 built on the template we
created for the original. The Integrator
tool allowed me to overlay and assemble
chunks of multicoloured art that I made
using a mouse. The isometric 1:2 angle
was unusual and challenging to animate.
We didn't multiplex the sprites, so the
ninja and his opponents shared the same
torso and legs, with another sprite for
the weapon and a 1-sprite colour overlay
for the face, hands and enemy outfits.
A shadow was also added to the
    characters in this sequel."

This game looked, sounded and felt so ahead of it's time back then. It still is miles ahead of most c64 games at the time. And the music still kicks ass! This music was like metal to me back then, hahaha.

Amazing game. I love at the start in the first few duels though. It seems ninjitsu is the art of kicking a man in the balls until he dies.
Played this game when I was four-five. My dad never got past the helicopter in the office, and I got as far as the basement box jumping scene. So good to see it finished

So I have a weird question. Who played with Mirror's Edge (2008) ?
At the end of the first map, we have to climp a ladder to the roof of a building. On top, at the let there is an even taller building, where our friend awaits. But we need to run forward and catch the helicopter as it flies away. Just like at about 12:18 here.
Its either a coincidence, or the ME mapper took inspiration from this.

"In 1988, I created the Last Ninja 2
soundtrack for System 3. I started with
the Central Park tracks, which was
important in order to stamp some sort of
'sound' on the game. It basically took from
mid-January until early April to finish. It's
about as big a project as you would want
to undertake, but everything just seemed
to work without any real hitches. I was
given a fairly free hand to produce what
I thought would be most suitable, and,
luckily, every time I took in new tracks
for each level, I got the thumbs up. It was a
great time for me personally, to suddenly
be working full time on C64 music. I was
almost 18, but I had no real worries in the
world beyond whether I could afford to
    buy a better car."

I felt so cool when I managed to play this through. Must have been around 1988-1989. I never learned how to get through the burst of steam (the solution is simple as this video shows) but there is a bug in the game. With some effort and trying, you can walk through the pile of coal in the same room. Moreover, if you press "J", the joystick axis changes in a way that it makes running on the roof and jumping on the boxes easier. How in the hell did we learn that?

That store with the "DRUGS" sign on it, those damnable pushers aren't even trying to be subtle anymore. Also cops trying to kick you in the nuts for wearing pajamas... CLASSIC FUCKING NEW YORK.

As an old demo scener as a C64 musician, having 3 channel was quite a feat, still it was fk fun to f*k beat that sound chip.

that this game can be completed in under 15 min makes me want to travel back in time to my 8 year old self and slap.

Well, 15 minutes of playtime and 140 minutes of waiting for levels to load via that blazing 1541 floppy drive!

This guy is exceptionally good at the game. For most it would take around a hour !!! A whole hour if you know what you are doing :) @@control_the_pet_population

Na, the game was pretty hard for a child! The walk through looks easy, but in reality it was nearly impossible to beat it!

I played this on Sharp MZ-800, but with a few changes:
    1. Colours and some ninjas were different.
    2. It was without music.
    3. In the "city" there were no ladies throwing things out of windows.
    4. In the "sewers" there was no spider.
    5. The fan in the "office" has to be stopped with a shurican in order to open the door next to it.
    6. The steam in the "house of Shogun" had to be redirected by opening two valves.

Does anyone have any idea how they designed those levels? In what tool were they drawn and then ported to the C64?
