I still remember when Italy won the world cup. My oldest daughter was just born and we sat and watched the entire game together. Was one of the greatest days of my lifetime.

With all respect to past World Cups, I think that this final game is the most iconic in the history of football. Even this tournament is in top 3 of all time, but this game surely is.
I guess you only had watch a couple of WC because this game is far away to be iconic, the most remembered thing of this game was Zidane-Materazzi incident. And the WC in general was ok, few goals and nothing more.

2022 was the best final since 2006. At that time, France & Italy were arguably the best and second best team in the world. Italy was at its finest, France coming back after a disastrous 2002. Not to mention the Zidane-Materazzi drama.
Zidane's penalty goal was a masterpiece.He should have remained calm when he argued with Materazzi.

France from 98-2000 was the strongest in recent history they only Conceided one Goal VS Croatia 🇭🇷 Italy 2nd they were aging and replaced some players France was also aging by 2006 both teams were at their primes plus afew relatively young players. This was not his finest hour… Which was a shame after his brilliant performances against Brazil and Spain. But to write off Zizou as “overrated” is preposterous.
Zizou, Nesta, Maldini and Buffon could easily still make the “all time” world starting 11.
Luka Modric and Kevin De Bryune are the only central midfielders I’ve seen since Zizou with similar foresight and vision. Pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta, Scholes, Totti, Sneijder all great… but often in Zizou’s shadow. Few players have had more elegance, and style with the football than Zinedine Zidane… Zizou, Ronaldinho, Maradona could dance with the football.
