As an American Dragon Ball fan i've always loved Mexican fans. I have the utmost respect for them and their enthusiasm. Two of my friends in elementary school in the 90's were Mexican and they were the ones who got me into DBZ back when it was the early dubs and it was airing on Fox in my area at the time. Raul, Robbie, thanks a bunch.
I just came across this video but; no mention of "Dr. Goku"? Dr. Goku is a web series made in flash and about 15 years old, where all the BDZ cast lives in México and had move on after the original show ended. Goku is now a Medic and due his popularity has a TV show and now fights against the struggles of the everyday live in México.
"When Super premiered it was largely the first time English and Spanish fans would interact with the currently airing DB series. Some things would be lost in communication, and the ordinary English fan would be vastly different from the ordinary Spanish fan..." THIS THO LOL. I speak both languages fluently, and I remember that the English speaking fans were like "cool, we'll get to see finally a canon sequel", while the Spanish speaking fans (mostly people between 23-35) would cry and scream from the emotion. Many even went to theaters cosplaying and fucking singing. Truly a sight to behold.
dragon ball broly Toriyama made the gogeta chants after being inspired by Mexico chanting goku during Tournament arc final episode. Dragon ball super hero Toriyama embraces the Gohan Blanco meme and turns it into a real transformation. Toriyama must really love his Mexican fans
FUN FACT! In Mexican juvenile correctionals; if someone fights even though being bruised, bleeding. They gain the 'SAYAJIN' (SAYAN) position as fighter.
Saiyajin is correct. Yasai = Vegetable and Jin = people, like America-Jin, or American person. Character names are anagrams or corruptions of veggies so... Yasai = Saiya

In the middle of the 90s, being the most popular anime in the country, reaching its popularity peak with the Frieza saga; the reception was similar to other latino countries like Mexico, being mostly popular for showing things that by the time were really rare to see in a cartoon, like violence, blood, or having a linear story, it was generally seen like a manly show (the dub contributed to this too). This attracted children and teens for this type of content, the parents, in the other hand, demonized it, like major part of anime series and videogames by the time (something that it's still holding up to this day, mostly by religious extremists).
Something you failed to mention is that in Mexico we were exposed to Dragon Ball a lot sooner than in english speaking countries. The first transmission of Dragon Ball (the original series not DBZ) took place around 1993. When DBZ arrived we were fully aware of Goku’s past adventures, and by the end it was getting pretty serious and DBZ like (after Goku grows into an adult in the original series). There are people like myself who literally grew watching Dragon Ball for decades. In Mexico DB culture goes deep and as a bonus we got the original soundtrack and an excellent dub that has mostly remained consistent. Anyway, I’m not sure but I think Spain got the first spanish dub.
I just want to say ; as a MEXICAN, that the reason DB, DBZ was so pupular in Mexico is because the dialogue is written in proper Spanish. The Mexican dub is shared by all of latin America, so slang and improper words are not used when translating over from Japanese, leaving the writing sounding more grown-up which makes it appeal to a broader audience than just small children. Also, the actors hired to voice these characters were not cheap, Televisa (Mexican broadcasting comp) hired VA's who had been dubbing Hollywood movies for decades. The Latin spanish dub reigns supreme over all the other dubs. Japanese Goku sounds like a bitch and the American actors played the parts like they're in some cheesey 90's cartoon (typical, but DB is more than that).
The Spain dub is also pretty good. Also uses proper Spanish, no slangs. But people shat on it because of some translation mistakes. It happens when it's basically the oldest spanish translation in dragon ball history
Final Resistance Productions Good is not the word that you want to use. Instead of calling it "KameHameHa" like all the fucking world, they translated it as "Onda Vital". Something pretty common for the Spanish Dub.
@@leandrobaigorria2230 ok great. You know what? They fixed it decades ago. Again. That translation was the first one of all spanish dubs. So they literally translated stuff. It was also quite the complicated translation. It's pointless. Because you will still talk shit about it. And hey. I respect other spanish dubs.
Actually, Gohan Blanco was born after spanish fans made clickbait about a frame in the ToP when Gohan powers up. His aura appeared white and gave the impression that he had white hair
Dragon ball is so relevant in México, when it was airing you could literally walk to anyone and ask: hey, how was the last DBZ episode? they would answer exited. i don't know 1 person who didnt watch dbz.
Most of the memes about Gohan Blanco are not actual fanfics from anybody, much less latin american fanbases. They are made very likely by americans or others that liked the joke and somewhat mockingly (but not offensive at all) use broken spanish phrases in them.
@@AgniFirePunch Most Mexican interactions are real life shit post that can easily turn into double entendres contest. Half the movies that come out of Mexico are satires. Think that a lot of this is lost in translation
Greetings from Mexico, beautiful internet strangers! Excellent video. Looking at those pictures of the final episode live stream takes me back.~ People were literally screaming and crying as if the universe was really going to end. When Jiren was defeated, people lost their minds!
Fun Fact: There were a convention of comics (La Mole ComicCon) the same day, all in the convention could see the premier of the fight if they have it a Crunchyroll membership, so at the 6 pm there was almost 200 people in a 3 meters square booth looking at a TV with all the volume posible, so nice
13:02 no man, thats El Grande Calvo Italiano Blanco Gohan. Look for the Jiren vs El Hermano fight scene in Joe Capo's channel. Its stronger than the Calvo transformation, but still no match for El Hermano's power. Only Gohan Blanco 100 por ciento can defeat El Hermano.
North and South of the Equator... While US still were thinking if anime wasn't cool or not, Latin America had already mastered in levels "western world" will never understand.
Watching this and learning about the whole history behind Gohan Blanco and El Hermano, I just couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous the nature of the "Spanish Lore" of Dragon Ball is, and I'm from the English-speaking Dragon Ball community so I never knew what was going on with Dragon Ball fans south of the border. Dragon Ball will always be an important asset to the anime industry, but this shows how much anime can impact an entire culture. Also, I should point out that the inclusion of Shaggy from Scooby Doo in the Spanish Lore is what spawned the whole "God Shaggy" meme, which would later evolve into it's own unique specimen that's transcended the fandom it originated from.
You can't pronounce the word "es" in the middle of sentence? ... meh, it's not the big deal, anyway as a spanish guy from argentina is so hilarius to see how people many people make a lore for a Dragon Ball series based on a bunch of edit images, theories and memes made by internet users
Yeah. Sorry about that. I was in a rush to cobble this together before Super's finale so it was fresh and I wanted to capture the whole Lore "in the moment". The result was a few screw ups in there. Glad enjoyed it. And thank you for your patience with my crappy Spanish.
The Spanish speaking world's whole obsession with Dragon Ball reminds me of Japan's weird obsession with Tom and Jerry. The American cartoon cat and mouse duo have had lots of merchandise and even appeared in a few commercials over there. They even got on a Top 100 anime list in 2006. Japan also has an odd obsession with the little blue Disney alien, Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. He even got a sequel anime series over there called Stitch! that ran from 2008 to 2015. The Powerpuff Girls are also huge in Japan. They also got an anime series called Powerpuff Girls Z.

You forgot the role of Joe Capo!
Like, Esto Es El Fin.
Like fucking everything.
:o
Praise my boy Joe Capo
Shaggy Ultra Instinct
Quetzal? No, espera, eres una copia del chino
Pinche furro de mierda
dragon ball broly Toriyama made the gogeta chants after being inspired by Mexico chanting goku during Tournament arc final episode.
Dragon ball super hero Toriyama embraces the Gohan Blanco meme and turns it into a real transformation.
Toriyama must really love his Mexican fans
Nor just Mexico but Latin America.
@@xDigDoug You just blew my mind. I knew enough Japanese to know yasai and jin, but I didn't connect the dots.
Lol I'll remember that. That is indeed a fun fact
Can someone put a link for something talking about that? i fucking need to know if this is true
the pain pekora makes this better to read lmao
The Latin Americans are on the right, the fact that their lore is "non-sensical" and "incoherent" suits Dragon Ball $uper very well.
>"big live event! screening of the big showdown! Japan had to intervene!"

This is the best video explaining the Gohan Blanco meme, maybe next to the Joe Capo one, greetings from Perú.
Question, I didn't look too far into it, I'm curious about the history of Dragon Ball in Peru. When did it mostly air? And how was it generally seen?
In the middle of the 90s, being the most popular anime in the country, reaching its popularity peak with the Frieza saga; the reception was similar to other latino countries like Mexico, being mostly popular for showing things that by the time were really rare to see in a cartoon, like violence, blood, or having a linear story, it was generally seen like a manly show (the dub contributed to this too). This attracted children and teens for this type of content, the parents, in the other hand, demonized it, like major part of anime series and videogames by the time (something that it's still holding up to this day, mostly by religious extremists).
I'm peruvian lol
-Being a hispanic speaker anime fan
-Knowing about the existence of this video until now...
ESTO ES EL FIN, RUclips!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!

@@DPedroBoh a power not even Shaggy Verdad can defy
Yeah we Spaniards did, but it was god awful lol
As a latin guy, I find this very accurate.
I hope I got everything roughly correct.
Pseudiom btw i like how you try to speak spaish. Its so funny. "Hel-ermauno"
latin and latino are not the same term. Lol
@@Pseudiom For the most part, still, i have to point out you pronounced "Esto e FIN" instead of "Esto es el fin".

Blanco canon. This video needs a bump
Can't be more accurate. I think the american audience would have enjoyed better this anime if it the OST hadn't been modified so drastically.
Leandro Baigorria Ondaaa vitaaaal lmaooooo
@@leandrobaigorria2230 ok great. You know what? They fixed it decades ago. Again. That translation was the first one of all spanish dubs. So they literally translated stuff. It was also quite the complicated translation. It's pointless. Because you will still talk shit about it. And hey. I respect other spanish dubs.
Just got here as Gohan Blanco got confirmed as Canon after the newest movie. DBS stole it confirmed XD
WE NEED A FOLLOW UP VIDEO ON EL BLANCO ASAP
Actually, Gohan Blanco was born after spanish fans made clickbait about a frame in the ToP when Gohan powers up.
His aura appeared white and gave the impression that he had white hair
It was actually before that
Funfact, I'm from the future and this is now canon
Can´t believe such a well made video has so few views

THEY MADE GOHAN BLANCO FUCKING REAL
Dragon ball is so relevant in México, when it was airing you could literally walk to anyone and ask: hey, how was the last DBZ episode? they would answer exited.
i don't know 1 person who didnt watch dbz.
Most of the memes about Gohan Blanco are not actual fanfics from anybody, much less latin american fanbases. They are made very likely by americans or others that liked the joke and somewhat mockingly (but not offensive at all) use broken spanish phrases in them.
the original are from concept of Ss5 by fanfiction.
Yeah, the meme about Gohan Blanco learning Spanish wouldn't make any sense in a dub where they're *all* speaking Spanish.
South America has this chaotic energy that lends itself well to memes
@@AgniFirePunch Most Mexican interactions are real life shit post that can easily turn into double entendres contest. Half the movies that come out of Mexico are satires. Think that a lot of this is lost in translation

Gohan Blanco is fucking canon, it's insane to me how that's his new form. i can't wait to see people's reactions in August.
Greetings from Mexico, beautiful internet strangers!
Excellent video. Looking at those pictures of the final episode live stream takes me back.~
People were literally screaming and crying as if the universe was really going to end.
Now it's canon, called "Final Gohan"
13:02 no man, thats El Grande Calvo Italiano Blanco Gohan. Look for the Jiren vs El Hermano fight scene in Joe Capo's channel. Its stronger than the Calvo transformation, but still no match for El Hermano's power. Only Gohan Blanco 100 por ciento can defeat El Hermano.
Sorry, these must be the old power rankings.

12:31 Jiren "Negro"

Just in case
Jiren Rapero.
Final boss in Super Hero is El Hermano after all.
-Goverment of Japan to mexico: stop the public transmissions of dbs episodes
-Goverment of México: Esto es el fin
You can't pronounce the word "es" in the middle of sentence? ... meh, it's not the big deal, anyway as a spanish guy from argentina is so hilarius to see how people many people make a lore for a Dragon Ball series based on a bunch of edit images, theories and memes made by internet users
Yeah. Sorry about that. I was in a rush to cobble this together before Super's finale so it was fresh and I wanted to capture the whole Lore "in the moment". The result was a few screw ups in there. Glad enjoyed it. And thank you for your patience with my crappy Spanish.
@@Pseudiom Bro dont worry it happens to all of us

The Spanish speaking world's whole obsession with Dragon Ball reminds me of Japan's weird obsession with Tom and Jerry. The American cartoon cat and mouse duo have had lots of merchandise and even appeared in a few commercials over there. They even got on a Top 100 anime list in 2006. Japan also has an odd obsession with the little blue Disney alien, Stitch from Lilo & Stitch. He even got a sequel anime series over there called Stitch! that ran from 2008 to 2015. The Powerpuff Girls are also huge in Japan. They also got an anime series called Powerpuff Girls Z.
guess whos back
