He is brilliant in vocal control, a duet alone, can go from highest to
lowest in one 1/2 breath its insane. not only that but controlling two
different languages, no formal training, taught himself as an orphan
from 7yrs old ..Effortless...Heavenly truly..Thanks for reaction, Peace

For someone who isn’t professionally trained, he is superb. He grew up homeless on the streets from 7 yrs old for 17 years, so his voice is God given. He discovered he could do both soprano and tenor at age 18, so all things considered, he is absolutely better than some who have studied for years. It is his God given gift and one just waiting for the right management to take him to the stars where he belongs.

This guy is a self-taught singer. What is even more impressive is that he was able to accomplish this plus having won the grandchampionship of a reality singing contest in the Phil. given his simple and humble background. Please try to learn something about the man, his family, childhood and teen years, and you will be more amazed at the talent MP was born with. Imagine what he could accomplish if he had a voice coach right from the start like Dimas Kudaibergen.
As to the weird accent, many Filipinos commonly use only 3 vowels in their daily conversation (a, i and u) that lends a distinct accent to each local language (dialect), and this peculiar accent is carried over when they speak in English.
MP was mimicking both Celine and Andrea Bocelli in this cover. And Andrea Bocelli being an Italian, MP was also imitating the slurred r's as in amore, esperanza, etc and in the way Andrea would pronounce English words.

This man was raised in poverty basically and was self taught. Due to a contest he won, this is how he became so well loved and respected.
As English isn't his first language u can u where it can cause problems. Can't fault him for that.

Marcelito Pomoy did not have a happy childhood family life and left home when he was still in grade 3 walking the streets of Manila at the tender age, fending for his daily meal doing odd jobs. He worked as a seller of boiled duck eggs, a favourite delicacy in the Philippines. He was a construction site helper, he did the cleaning of the huge chicken cages in chicken farms from where he realised he could really sing while Cleaning the chicken cages, he admitted so himself that jokingly he would reply to every news reporter asking him if there were truths in his claim that Marcelito Pomoy's very first audiences where the clucking chickens transferred to other cages while he had to high water pressure the empty cages while belting his favourite songs he learnt by immitation. His favourite lady singer is Celine Dion and he would follow her pronounciation and that's where he honed on the soprano voice of Celine Dion. He became fascinated with music and immitated artists' English songs and also Filipino songs by following what he heard while doing any work he could get himself employed in. Thru so many years of self teaching practice with NO FORMAL VOICE AND DICTION COACHING, he gained confidence in his ability to sing both male and female voices. His circle of friends at work and where he stayed encouraged him to join a popular televised singing contest in the Philippines which he won hands down with the judges and spectators jaws dropping in awe watching him sing live before millions of Filipinos nationwide. I'm sure other audiences watching in their own TV sets nationwide had their jaws dropping in awe at Marcelitos ability to sing both male and female voices. And the rest is history. You have to forgive him for some words he may have mispronounced in the course of his singing, HE IS STILL ONLY A GRADE 3 EDUCATED STUDENT BUT IS NOW WORTH A FEW MILLION PESOS IN PHILIPPINE CURRENCY, AND YES HE ONLY FINISHED GRADE 3 IN GRADE SCHOOL IN THE PHILIPPINES.

Marcelito Pomoy always needs a translator with him if any foreign journalists or fans would like to engage in a friendly conversation with him. He is fluent in speaking his native tagalog language but is always struggling to understand you when you attempt to engage a conversation with him in English.
His various singing invitations overseas, i.e. Canada where he held his first overseas concert together with other Filipino artists', Dubai and other singing engagements with the Philippines TV networks gave him the opportunity to buy his own house and eventually getting married to his love. Before he won the singing contest, he was not attractive to other girls because he was only a daily wage earner. I will leave the next chapter to marcelito Pomoy to show to the world his humbleness, cheerful attitude and respect for his fellow human beings are infectious like to an overwhelming majority of Filipinos in how we treat others irrespective of nationality and religion.

Marcelito never left home. His mother abandoned him at age 3. His father was serving life in prison. Marcelito went to live in prison with his father until a family took him into their home. A home he left at age 7. Age 7 is when he lived on the streets and started singing. He learned to sing both male and female voices at age 18.

Great reaction to a great performance from Marcelito. Smart and informative, without being obnoxious.
After Dimash and Marcelito, I think one of the best, and most common, performances to react to, is Disturbed's surprising, and epic, cover of The Sound of Silence (Video or Live on Conan).
One of the greatest cover arrangements/performances of a classic in modern music IMO. Unexpected, pure and powerful.

I don't know why people hate reactors that actually listen to the performer. Reactors that actually pause the video will be able to listen to the entire performance instead of missing those parts where they were talking instead of listening. And isn't this what reactions should be instead of just watching. I'm no expert in music so I would not know if all he say is accurate but I love reactions like this. I'm a Filipino too but I hate it more when people just shower praises looking more like they want you to subscribe instead of genuinely reacting. I don't mind the pauses. Keep them be if needed.

YES! He's not using falsetto for all the high notes, he just has a crazy range. I loved that you pointed that out, there are many "vocal coaches" who just say, "amazing how he can change his voice like that, like from male to female, that's hard! I should know, I'm a vocal coach!", they just jumped in on the wagon, lol.

    • @RnBSingingLessons

yeah when I heard more of his stuff, it's clear that his pulls his chest range right up there - I have heard other singers do that (few) so I know it's possible - also the tone of the notes gives it away. But sometimes you have to hear more of the artist to tell the differences :) Thanks for the support man

Your reaction was priceless! Marcelito Pomoy taught himself this song, he has no classical training, rather taught himself how to sing from an early age. He learned this song by listening to a recording by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. His performance, considering that he requires a translator to carry on a conversation in English even though he understands it well but has trouble speaking it, is gorgeous. His native language is Philipino Tagalog, and he has no formal training. The recording engineer was teasing him about his female voice. That's why he spit her out at the end. Notice his big grin after doing that. He is singing now in English, Italian, Spanish and Chinese but he does not speak those languages. Possibility even more by now. He grew up on the streets from age 7. On September 21, 2014, Pomoy married Joan Paraiso of Calauag, Quezon, and they have one daughter, Marcella Janiah. He is very humble, helping out his neighbors with odd jobs and repairs, even though his reported net worth is around $5,000,000 USD. His ambition serves him well in whatever he does!
I'd love to see your reaction to their link ruclips.net/video/yb2HR47npEU/видео.html for "Misty Mountain".
Peter Hollens - the Hobbit - sings all upper ranges barretone/high tenor.
Tim Foust - the Dragon - contra bass with a full five octave vocal range.

Rached, lurker fan of your site here who keeps coming back to this video reaction you did, I think the first time you encountered Marcelito. Just couldn't resist explaining what he did at the end of the song -- it's an industry joke we share among talents and producers -- he wasn't yawning, he was joking about having swallowed a microphone and regurgitating it back. It's a gesture that shows his humorous side. After what he sang, it certainly feels like having a mike inside and he's just giving it back LOL. Wouldn't even begin commenting on how good he is because it's already apparent on the global stage. Keep up the good work on the video reactions -- yours are among the few I take with seriousness.

FUN FACT: Sometime in the 80s, there had been many, and I mean throughout the Philippines, town held contests on the theme of "Doble Kara" (meaning double face). Men, or gay, would wear on one side of their body (let's say the right side) a gown, while on the other side, a tuxedo. Then, to that, singing both the man and woman's part in a song, with that side of the body facing the audience. Like if he shows you the side wearing the gown, he sings the woman's part in the song. Because of poverty, these contests are taken seriously. And I think that is why Filipinos grew up singing Whitney Houston songs - - 'coz nobody dares enter a contest without eating that and spitting it good. 😎

He shows no force❣️ Effortless!! Celine Dion Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban is my all time favorite artist. 💞Always
This man simply has a natural pipes he can registered and able to transition both voices clear high pitch vocals without a force. Moreover🤔 the critisizm on here about he's pronunciations more likely because he's doing 2 huge voices in 1one. At times I couldn't understand Andrea speech when he sings and he's an Italian he's not from php 😊 an love it. 💞❣️💞
😊 Mr. pomoy sings inside a plain bus station on the street/public bus (wish 107.5) and what I see and heard he's voice is un - remarkably unexplainable!!! 🤔😂 He's singing a huge duet songs in ONE. 😱😱ALONE GooosseeeBumps!!!! Spread L❣️ve 🌏 NOT HATE now.. That's all she wrote. 😊💞😘

Do you think a guy like this would be a success touring? He amazes me and i would buy a ticket and can't think of anyone else I would buy a ticket for and you know this guy grew up on the streets in the Philippines homeless so he has had no formal training. So bam, all that coming out of him is self taught.

"Lead us to a place. The 'place' here pronunced it like 'plese' and "To a plce whre we'll be safe. Again 'we'll' pronounced it like 'well'. Marcelito comes from the south of the Philippines and and like other from that area, pronounce 'i' as 'e'.
If Filipinos in general could speak (pronounce) English correctly as they sing correctly well, they'd be lovely.

I actually prefer a reactor that pauses/goes back rather than talks over the video and missing a few good points (applicable to any kind of reaction). Someone who takes notes and discusses it afterwards. Is it too much in this one? Maybe. But I still prefer it over someone who wasn't paying attention. Nice work.

Nice reaction.. he is the best singer in my country..one thing you are honest reactor but yes maybe some pronunciation are not perfectly delivered as we are filipino,we accept that english is not our mother tongue...
