Aside from how utterly bizarre the entire aesthetic is, Out of this Dimension is so discombobulating the game itself can't decide if it's a space level or a planet level. The level allows you to go into cockpit mode (and defaults to it at the start) like a space level, but by the end it's playing the stage clear music used for planet levels.
out of this dimension is so cool and eerie, everyone is wondering where fox is, when in reality he's lost in space forever, and andross has probably conquered the solar system
I love the fact that not many people mention that there is like, (although I'm not sure on the Canonicity of this), one other person to have entered Out of this Dimension. Desslar Coba, and Pepper reacted much the same way when they entered as he did when Fox entered. Implying this isn't some weird hallucination, this is an actual place. Which, is honestly more terrifying.
They don't tell you, but star Fox's dad is flying through space just beyond that light purple moon with closed eyes, he's flying 20 years ahead of you shooting the same letters.
I remember, as a young child, accidentally ending up in that lost dimension. I happened to have just done all those things and I accidentally flew in that bird - I think I was trying to kill it - but I felt so cool finding this - like I was better than all the people who were my older brothers age - but I never could escape and I came here to see if you could and you can't and that makes me upset - my poor Fox - my sweet sweet Fox
Hi I'm Mike the theory is that when fox flew into that bird, it might of been imprisioned for a reason. And when he crashed into it he flew off into space with is window broken giving him no air and he is slowly dying out in cold space and since his sewing is broken his teamates can't find him and this is his purgatory before he goes to the afterlife and when the end comes on screen he can't accept it's the end for him and thus not letting him pass on
Actually, while yes, the word "awesome" was very heavily used in the 90s, "awesome" can be used in more ways than to simply mean, "cool" or "amazing". It can mean "awe-inspiring", "huge", "magnanimous", and a multitude of other words. That's probably what they meant here, especially given that this was where Fox's father disappeared to.
When I was 10 years old, my dad or brother found a Wheaties box that had the code for how to get to the black hole on it..... 22 years later , I now know of this secret too. Thank you !!!!
Did you know that if you try to exit the "Out Of This Dimension" level you will not exit even after beating the boss? The only way to exit the level is is restarting your console and startig the game of the 0% of him.
Pilots take drugs that help them stay awake at long flies. But the drugs have side effects like hallucinations. By the time you see this level you are seeing shit that isn't there and you fly into the endless nothingness. If this was in real life when the hallucination ended fox would probably be lost in space with no connection to anyone. So yeah. D R U G Z
Or a random portal to a bizarre dimension. The level is even called "Out of this dimension". But your theory sounds right, maybe fox took more than necessary and has severe hallucinations. (but i'm not a drug expert so i don't really know does the amount of drugs affect the severity of the ettects such as hallucinations)
Haispawner the other theory is when he crashed into the bird his areing cracked open and broke leaving him with no air and slowly dying out in space and his friends can't find him cuz the gps is broken
I think those therories are just joke therories. The level was really made to test the TurboGrafx-16 or Super FX Chip (whatever it was) as far as I know. I could be wrong. It's been awhile since I've watched all of that stuff lmao
I honestly have to say, if it weren't for this video, I never would have known about Out of This Dimension. All the years I've played this game and I was still new to the Black Hole.
Just imagine the pure fear on a little kid’s face as he enters the “Out of this dimension” level.A place where there’s planets with faces moving around like slime with oddly disturbing circus music in the background where it never ends unless you turn off the device or die scared the hell outta me,it’s like having a endless fever dream.
7:13 So basically, fox started to feel suffocated and to "see his life pass through his eyes" (the "dizzy" effect, paper airplanes, the slot machine), and... 13:38 ...he died. (dizzy effect stopped, the moon with the closed eyes, "the end" with blue and white colors symbolizing someone who was suffocating and died.)
I’m convinced Fox died in Out of this Dimension. The team can’t find Fox, he disappeared. The song playing is When the Saints go Marching in, a song about the wish to go to heaven and picturing the saints going through the pearly gates, a song appropriate to play at funerals. The level ends with the credits and “The End”. So Fox got teleported somewhere with no communication and eventually ran out of fuel and air. And in his final moments, Fox was probably thinking about Paper airplanes and Slot machines. The game doesn’t end until you the player either shuts off or restarts the system. Ladies and gentlemen, thats deader than dead.
The way I see it is this: in another dimensions, all that has happened in foxes timeline doesn't matter anymore, it's like a dream essentially, if all timelines are possible it makes no difference between that and a timeline where there where never any problems, theres an unlimited number of all possibilities in between, so where fox is andross it already beat, andross has already won, and andross was never even born, all at once. In theory fox could've guided then probably trapped andross from his dimension, into this dimension and there would be yet another set of outcomes, including but not limited to the total removal of andross from his own timeline.
I think I read about Out Of This Dimension in a Nintendo Power issue, I could be wrong, but I just remember once I read about it's existence and how to get there, I got all wide eyed and thought "WHAT", and I immediately popped my cart in to go and check it out. Still one of my most favorite "secret" areas in a video game. More developers need to put stuff like this in modern games, that's for sure!
I love this ending is so tragic weird and creepy to think fox is trapped there probably scared as one can be. Wish they would implemented it in every game somehow making it canon 😅
I've been playing this game occasionally since childhood years, that totals to 10+ years, and I've NEVER HEARD OF THESE LEVELS. WHAAAAAT. MIND BLOWN. Thanks for sharing!
Out of this Dimension kind of sounds like the theme from the Boo Mansion from Super Mario 64 where you go to the shed and go on the Boo Merry Go Round.
The three brown asteroids that form a "triangle" just before the spinning ones, if flown through, will grant you a Twin Blaster. Wasn't sure if ya knew. Cool video; subscribed.
James only got stuck in the black hole in the Star Fox 1 & 2 timeline. 64/adventure/assault/command timeline he was betrayed by Pigma and killed. Dunno if Zero had the same thing happen.
Actually several bosses in the Black Hole - Just that they're junk x3 Also if you keep flying in the black hole, you can end up in a Warp that takes you to MachBeth instead if I recall - or Sector Z. Basically there's a lot of warps in the Black hole
Oh wow, I never did get to play the original StarFox until the SNES classic/NSO but I was just thinking about the 64 warps when replaying the game. Didn’t know there were versions in the first game, but guess it makes sense that it originated from it. Really want to try these out myself now!
I always suspected the other dimension was supposed to be a short cut to Macbeth, similar to black hole and sector x ...but they just decide to tack on a credits sequence instead
Actually, Black Hole has 3 Exits... you took the first one... if you go on, you can take the other exits... but if you miss the last exit you are stuck in there as it goes on and on and on...

Hey I bet this is the closest a sci-fi character got to a fantasy character, because some background in Out of this dimension looks like Majora Mask's moon.
It's usually possible to explain some wacky, crazy, random shit that appears in a game through some theories. This has no in-game explanation possible. Fun fact, it was actually just to justify the use of a piece of code the programmers made that makes textures slide (used in the slot machine), and some other ideas, like Myamoto's idea to include paper cranes.
so there's this character in Star Fox lore named Desslar Coba, he found the bird-like alien way before Fox ever did and was never heard from again ever since that day
I played this game in the 90s every day and I never had the clue. I thought it would depend of something else. Some other level had I think a glitch on the right side of the screen, I remember trying that thinking it was something related to it. How foolish.
"There's a fallen star, make a wish" hahahahahahaha! Oh man! Jealous of your intro man, god damn. Anyway, I did love Star Fox as a kid but SF64 is my preferred game between the two. I completed the crap out of that game but never had the hear to do the same with the SNES version. It makes me sad that Nintendo has given up on the classic formula. I liked the ship levels in Assault but the on foot missions ruined the game for me -- seriously ruined. I will play the game up to a on foot level and then turn it off.
+MrGazillion I was in the same boat as you before I did this series: grew up on SF64 and never got into SNES. When I started playing this one I thought, "Man, 64 version is so much better." But recently I popped in SF64 again I felt the exact opposite, "Oh wow, I like SNES better!" It was a life changing experience, and it shows in my SF64 game, now I'm playing like never before thanks to this game training me lol. I have an unofficial list of "ways Nintendo fucked up" in my head. One of the biggest ones is "No real StarFox on gamecube." Adventures was a total disaster and made me never want to touch Assault.
+MrGazillion And about the intro, I got the idea for such a short, simple, and sweet from your old one, honestly! I made the RGB triangles while messing about in PS and just had a font in mind already that I liked. I need to revamp the logo so that the triangles are easier to see when scaled down; right now I tried putting them on thumbnails and they just sort of disappear when they get small haha.
