    Oh! Have you watched "Breakdown" by Dirty Loops yet? :D
    The tone of Breakdown is very different again, it creates very different emotions.
    Thanks for sharing your first experiences with Dirty Loops, I loved seeing the awe in your faces and the different things you each were noticing/enjoying about the songs and musicianship. I was just as frickin' excited seeing these videos for the first time too!

    An adage I live by as a performer and composer is "If you want the audience to hear you, play loud. If you want them to LISTEN, play soft." Too many bands forget that. For all their pyrotechnics and power, they are superb artists who remember the power of dynamics. Keep them coming!

    Yeah, thanks Andreas 👍and I’m stoked that you found this one more ‘accessible’ (am I right there?) than Next To You.
    The level of musicianship, individual skills and chops is just out of this world.
    And you’re so right, Henrik (bass) and Aron (drums) are locked in!
    Their years of practising together payed off big time. They’re good friends too, and Henrik’s once told the story of his bass teacher also teaching Aron at one point. He’d often extended Henrik’s bass lesson to a several hour-lesson…
    That prog-feel: they count the Pat Metheny Group as one of their leading musical influences. Then there’s all the other stuff they grew up with, RnB, gospel, classical, funk, rock and jazz. It’s all in the mix. Oh yeah and loopified pop ;)
    That tension and release in their compositions, you’re so spot on there.
    And that quiet intro into the piano solo, I love this part and never thought of it as anxious, but more like being dropped down into a dark jungle world from a helicopter, and I guess that could potentially be scary 😉 you definitely don’t know what’s coming next.
    Both of you vibing along and/or listening with such intensity made my day!
    Thanks for this again.
    “Thriller”, their cover of the MJ tune, in collaboration with rhythm guitarist Cory Wong, might be another great one to react to ;)👍

    “The musicianship is on another level.” Good reason for that, all three are from the Swedish Royal Institute of Music (or whatever it translates into English as). They were studying composition, jazz, and what not, and would get together to jam and do their own thing. So, yes, they started out doing this for the fun of it, and they still are.

      The thing that is fun is that the better the musician that hears the more they freak out. Lol they are doing things that are just ridiculously hard but in a kind of pop-rock ish setting. This is what makes them unreal. They are playing at a level that nobody ever does in this style of music.

      Thriller and follow the light with Cory wong are amazing, also from the same session is the amazing instrumental TURBO , great musicianship , Cory wongs musicians were the backing musicians for the late PRINCE. then back to the trio DIRTY LOOPS are JONAH NILLSON on vocals and keyboards , HENRICK LINDER one of todays greatest bass players and AARON MELLERGARD a very underrated drummer, they are Swedish and all classically trained musicians. ROCK YOU, WORLD ON FIRE, HIT ME, if you like a ballad you have to hear Jonah nillson sing BREAKDOWN , I first came across singer jonah in a collaboration with my favourite guitar player Steve vai singing JONAH NILLSON DIAMOND RING, during the video there's a cameo appearance from jonahs manager the old man of funk QUINCY JONES , speaking of QUINCY and Michael Jackson style vocals jonah performed at a show in Paris for QUINCY singing JONAH NILLSON BILLY JEAN LIVE IN PARIS, with QUINCY sitting on the side of the stage welcoming the artists to the stage, the 2 bass player's were from the old Michael Jackson days RICHARD BONA and MARCUS MILLER, a few more songs for your dirty loops journey, best wishes from the North East Coast of England.

    How to get locked in like Henrik and Aron: they practiced for a long time a two bar groove looped that for 30 min without any distractions took a 5 min break then 30 min grooving the two bars again 5 min break and 30 grooving. Then they'd change to another two bar groove and repeat the practice plan. Those two grooves practiced for a week - and then a new week with two new grooves...

    • @semi-sound
      @semi-sound Год назад +3

      I think the key is they’ve played together since they were in (music) high school, since they were like 15-16. And with the level of discipline and commitment you describe. Consequently, their joint sense of time and pocket is second to none. It’s actually scary. Also, it’s pretty rare that musicians with this level of skill stick together for this long. Like John Mellencamp said: Trying to organize musicians is like herding cats.

    • @fiddlestix3025

    • @semi-sound
      @semi-sound Год назад +3

      @@fiddlestix3025 I think they’ll stick together, albeit interspersed with other projects. These days musicians have to take success where they can find it, and they have built a brand and a devout following that isn’t easily found in the scholarly genres of jazz fusion-based music - at least not in the 21st century. Plus, they’re too old now for the inevitable drama that inflicts all bands. Breaking up bands is a young person’s game. And even if they one day tired of touring and facing the public, they would still gravitate towards the connection the three of them have - it’s the sort of thing all musicians dream of. Meaning we would still get new recorded music from them, I’m quite sure. (And since Aron seems to be really into video editing, it would probably be accompanied by videos too). Of course it doesn't hurt having been friends since junior high either...

      Yeah, oftentimes people have commented on their Latin feels.
      Their percussionist, always heard in the background but never seen, is Andreas Eckstedt, one of Sweden’s most recognized percussionists (and a Physics scientist by day ☺️)
      The berimbau in the background is just one of the things they or he uses in creating that feel, I guess.
      Their track “Ring of Saturn” (in collaboration with Cory Wong) is another example of their love of Latin soundscapes.
      I’m getting those strong Pat Metheny vibes, with Pat using a lot of Latin rhythms and percussion 🪘🥁🪘
