Ingredient Listing for anyone experiencing error messages on the site: 2 lbs. sweet potatoes (peeled and chopped into ½-inch chunks) 1 cup brown sugar ¾ cup maple syrup 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg ¼ teaspoon ground allspice ¼ teaspoon sea salt 1 tablespoon vanilla extract ½ cup unsalted butter ½-1 orange, freshly squeezed Instructions Peel and chop the sweet potatoes into ½-inch chunks. Aim for even sizes so they cook evenly. In a medium pot, add the sweet potatoes, brown sugar, maple syrup, butter, orange juice, vanilla, salt, and spices. Stir everything together to coat the sweet potatoes completely. Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with a lid, and let it simmer for 40-45 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure the potatoes cook evenly. Once the sweet potatoes are fork-tender, remove the lid and increase the heat to medium. Stir frequently while the liquid reduces and thickens into a caramel-like sauce, about 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat and serve warm. These yams shine as a side dish but can even double as a dessert!
As a north eastern white man I truely appreciate your video, I never had candied yams until a friend of mine brought me a plate and I’m looking forward to bringing this recipe to thanksgiving this year, thanks unc💯
I've made this recipe many times. I will never make my sweet potatoes like I did before since I have this recipe. They're delicious, they are sweet and they are the perfect side dish for any meal.
I love the stove top method from your previous instructions . The oven takes too long. This is quicker and more flavorful . I can’t wait to try the maple syrup that’s different for me . Yams and Mac and cheese is always the star of the show on Thanks giving for me . When u mix that with some greens, that combo is divine lol.
Bro! I love you. My parents use to make them just like this, and they are gone now. I've been looking for a good recipe and just stumbled upon this video while scrolling. Thanks bro
Brother AB, I used your yams recipe last year and let me tell you, they were the BEST I’ve ever made! I’m looking forward to making them again this year 🙌🏾🥰 Thanks
I boil my sweet potatoes for a few minutes first, then I make the sauce, put in a casserole dish and bake them in the oven for about 20 minutes they come out perfect and don't break. My sauce is orange juice, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla flavor and a pinch of salt. Boil over low heat and pour over the sweet potatoes. Real cooks don't measure!!! 😇
Year Two of making this recipe! I won’t make it any other way! I added honey last year so great to see you added maple syrup this year! When I made this last year these was the first dish gone! Luckily I saved me a small bowl because I had nothing left! Thanks AB! This is a gold winning recipe!
I was just on the website copying and pasting some of your recipes for my go to cook book. I made these sweet potatoes last two thanksgivings and they were a hit
just got hooked to your channel and I'm at work watching this..... I am getting so hungry OMG ... and these YAMS....OMG...... I actually made the fried chicken you made... My husband loved it..... But I am going to try the seafood mac n cheese....
Your food is all COMFORT and does absolutely nothing for my waistline but my pallet thanks you! 😍 I will try this and that slamming Mac & Cheese you made. Happy Holidays to you and your family 🦃🎄
I was just thinking about making old fashioned candy yams 🍠 yesterday, but my aunt never taught me and she never answer the phone...but here you are with one of my favorite recipes!!😅
I agree with you AB! Grandmas are the Best at this!! This reminds me of being a small kid helping my Nanny cooking Thanksgiving Dinner! She did the exact same thing with her Candied Yams. Your Yams looks So Delicious!! You are Definitely an Artist in the Kitchen! Your Channel Is Much Appreciated. 😁
I always go to your page for some good cooking. I'm making your mac n cheese, green beans, greens , yams, thanksgiving dressing recipe, and banana pudding recipes.
I made these for thanksgiving ❤❤❤❤ babbbyyyyyy I’ve now been requested to make these for 2 different Christmas dinners 😂😂 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️thank you AB…. Everyone loved these and told me they were the best they every eating ❤❤❤
My grandma fried hers a little first and toss them in some salt and pepper. I’ve incorporated her method and they’re so good, I eat them by themselves😍
I'm cooking these for Thanksgiving right now along with a roasted chicken, some good ole cornbread dressing, fried cabbage, cranberry sauce, pistachio pudding, and German chocolate cake! 😋😋😋 Happy Thanksgiving!
This year my goal is to actually cook everything (yams, pie, cranberry sauce) instead of buying it premade or in a can…thanks for the amazing recipe 🙌🏻
No brown butter!!?? Come on AB! Brown butter is not burned butter. I just made an apple pie and browned the butter for the sauce. Browned butter makes a world of difference in peach cobbler, candied yams and anything that requires melted butter. The second that butter turns brown you add your sugars. True fire, I’m telling you.
