Can't thank you enough for this video chap, just picked up the girlfriends 08 Mini Cooper and only realised the knocking when we got back to Devon ( rough roads ). Picked up the new bushes the next day and put them in that eve, now I have a quiet cooper and a happy girlfriend. Your a star
Great video. Thanks to you, I switched my rear bushings out about as quick as you did! The bushings were a bit cracked and holes were enlarged from wear. Definitely in need of replacement.I still had the rattle/knocking after however. So, I replaced the rear sway bar end links. Problem solved. The ball joints were worn and knocking. Thanks again!
A really helpful video. My wife has just purchased a Mini with an annoying knocking sound coming from the rear N/S suspension. I've tried the obvious, boot stops, seat belts, tool kit and then came across this vid. I'll be fitting the part next weekend. Many thanks!
Great video: thanks for showing the whole job - so often people leave things out, assuming viewers will 'just know that bit'. Good explanations too. Cheers.
Thanks mate, I’ve just done this on my daughters mini R56. Bit awkward to get to the bolts and a ratchet spanner would’ve helped a lot. Bloody tight as well. But fixed the problem for
@@matthewhill1377 Horrible graunchy knocking noise coming from the back Sounded like loose exhaust, but it wasn’t loose Changing the bushes has got rid of the noise

Cheers mate, clear and concise. Against your advice, I've ordered some powerflex ones 'cos they are only 25 quid. 4.50 x 6 is 27 quid, so using your own calculation, it's worth it at that price with the time saved.
I thought this might be the problem with my daughters R50 2004 Mini One but it's not even fitted with a rear ARB. It hasn't been removed, there are no bolt holes for the Bush Brackets.
thanks for the video. I had a bit of noise from the back left rear side and having looked at your video, bought some new bush's and had them replaced. sounds much better now. many thanks for the advice. do you have a video of the front suspension bush's?
wow, 9 years I commented on this post. Just done my rear bushes on my newer R56 and yes, still the same issues but thankfully this video proves that proper maintenance equals Longevity. Thanks again if your still around.
Ahoy selfsilent thanks for the video good work , I found this video by looking for advice as my mini cooper 2002 has a scraping squeaking sound from back wheel - something is connecting on turning as you drive slowly. It stops when it rains so when its wet & spent cash on changing barrings that did f-all to fix problem so please do you have any idea what can cause it & how to fix it?
Doing this soon went over a hole now got a clunking hope it’s just this I’ve put Copper grease on the lug nuts tho cos they was a fuck to get off didn’t know you shouldn’t
+Evil from evilution Thanks. Do you think it would able to tell by touch and feel? I had a mechanic quickly raise it up but he couldn't find any loose part.
+BelRiose2000 I couldn't detect any movement on the one I did in the video. The amount of force required to move the anti roll bar is more than 1 person can create.
BelRiose2000 you will never find it on a 2 post ramp, lift it on a 4 post mot ramp so the weight is on the wheels then swing on the roll bar by the bush. You will be able to see it move up and down and if it’s proper fucked it will make the knocking sound. Some times if there proper Rogered there will be a small gap inside the bush where the bar sits inside.
I had a rattle in my Mini and had the dealer replace the rubber bushings. It still rattles. I've checked everything under the car and there is still a rattle. It's like there is a loose beer bottle rolling around back there. Has anyone else had this problem?
Yes I have had rattling sound and I've found when you drop spare tire and plastic triangle thing that tires rests against when tire is fully up. That bracket rattles against bottom side of car, I took cloth rag, folded it couples times, wedged in there and BOOM!!!! No more rattle! Hope this helps you out.....
Thanks. But I don't have a spare tire. Also just had the sway bar bushings replaced. I put the car on a lift recently and couldn't see or feel the problem. Still a mystery.
clearly this service job is well below your normal - copper grease should have been applied to the inside of the bushes them self's - wheel lock nuts should always be secured in a "cross pattern" - report card reads could do better
They are dry bushes fitted at the factory and they were replaced by OEM dry bushes. Clue is in the name. If you really feel like you have to unnecessarily lubricate them, go for lithium grease or red rubber grease. However, it's really only poly bushes that should be greased. Cross pattern tightening is important on engines, not on wheels, especially when you go around more than once.
I did this today, i followed your lead exactly, it even rained. Thanks, Simon

Thanks from Italy selfsilent. Bushes changed, knocking sound ended! I bought them from ebay, german seller. 24 euro and a beer to a friend. Amazing!!!

Tanks Sr, I spend like $300 dollars on different parts and mechanical labor for nothing, until a found this video. Just $20 dollars. Thanks!!

Thanks mate mine did exactly that changed the bushes and it worked no more knocking woop woop
Just changed mine after watching your video. Thank you
Nice informative video mate. The missus has just had these advised on her MOT on her R56 Cooper Petrol. Thanks for the help!
Nice video, surprised you don’t wear gloves...😉. And loved the “if you don’t know torque, do it down f@#&*$ tight”. LOL 😝

Thanks for the video. Just changed mine on my R53. Great job.
i feel your pain man...its tough sometimes being the family mechanic
Spray unicorn glitter on the bolts & leave for 5 minutes to soak in then loosen them. Top job!
And here I just bought some adjustable rear endlinks. Ah well, at least it's a cheap fix....thanks for posting the video!
My kind of mechanic great video

I'd recommend checking the brake pads aren't too worn or delaminated and that the discs aren't too worn, warped or rusty.
Thank you for your video from France ;)

Nice1 thanks for sharing 👍
Hi There, can you advice from where i can buy these rubber bushes?
From a mini dealer like it says in the video.
Nice video ! Thanks
The end was super helpfull
Yur awesome dude!! Thanks
have this knocking and a squeak now...
Could this really cause knocking? The old bushings didn't look that bad.
+BelRiose2000 I only changed the bushes and the knocking was gone, so yeah.
+BelRiose2000 It's the cheapest and easiest thing to try 1st. If not that then the drop links.

Did you find the clicking problem on mini cooper on sharp turns?
Eee gads. My bolts are rusty as hell. I think it’s going to be a lot more work here 🙈
Get them sprayed in penetrating spray and repeat it every day for a week before trying. Not WD40.
Educational and funny!
Thanks for this.
Cheers fella !
not help me. I changed, same! I think this in shock absorber.
well earned! haha

Copper grease 😂 that's not really a lubricant for rubber now is it. Not that it's needed anyhow.
God god man, get a better car jack!
Did it not lift the car up then? What did it fail to do as a jack that means I'd need something better?
