I was once stunned trying on a magenta jacket. I was about 59, with grey hair. My eyes sparkled, my teeth looked white. And it wasn't expensive: I'm talking about M&S in Darlington 😂
I like Marie Anne's simple and practical approach of putting color garment near your face and see whether it works. Color analysis over complicates things. I often heard someone gets her color done by two different analysists, got two sets of very different /conflicting recommendations. I will take the matter in my own hands! The other tip that I whole heartily agree is that there is no wrong color, it is the shade that matters. I am olive skin toned. I thought yellow won't work on me for years as I have never heard any stylist recommend yellow and it has a reputation of being a difficult color to wear . But during COVID, I got so bored and wanted to try colors I usually don't wear. I bought a couple yellow tops on line and found a muster shade yellow looks vibrant on me even without make up. A shocker! Now I am more adventurous on trying new colors and it brings more fun in getting dressed.
I always get compliments, even from strangers on the street, when I wear a bold red or fuscia pink! I’m a winter so gem toned colours flatter my skin tone best, and they always pick me up and make me smile when I wear them. Even when I wear black, which I love, I add red lips! Great video again!
I was a red head. Now I am a dyed rose bronze. I feel the best in White, turquoise, and pink of all shades. You look absolutely glowing in your bright pink turtleneck sweater. Just gorgeous. I also like how you look vibrant in your red jacket. Thank you for all your videos. I do watch them all. I don’t comment on all of them but do watch them. And I’m watching your older ones now. It is amazing how you barely changed over the years. I truly think you are amazing. My husband and I love your giggle. He likes to watch with me. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and giving me inspiration to dress better. ❤
Marie-Anne, I love your style, I love your personality, I really enjoy your videos (I have seen almost all of them from the beginning) and I am thankful for your tips, but there´s something I would definitely change: the "look younger" and "look expensive" tendency. We viewers (and yourself) are wise enough to know better. Too many messages on the internet selling youth and luxurious looks. As you have always said, it´s a question of style, not age or money. Let´s try to make a difference, even if we are a minority.
I believe one of the reasons the title look younger is often included in video titles is it increases RUclips traffic. That is one of the most searched titles on the internet for fashion. Looking your best or similar title just doesn’t quite direct the traffic to Marianne’s wonderful channel so I wouldn’t be critical of her for this. We know she isn’t ageist.
I have avoided wearing red for many years. Same is true of pink. May have to experiment😊 Now I realize, though, that because of recent rosacea, I will stay with blue and green. I have often received compliments when wearing a shade of orange, too
If you are a 'warm' person you should wear navy and not black. The easiest way to find if you are 'warm' or 'cool'? Warm people prefer gold jewellery and cool look better with silver
I have a cool skin tone so blue and green are my friends. I like all shades of blue except royal blue (my school uniform was royal blue). For our church directory photo, I decided to wear bright colors. I wore a royal blue blazer and added a Hermes scarf of magenta, emerald, royal blue etc (the pattern is various dog collars - was given to me as I have king Charles cavaliers). Bright magenta lipstick. Anyway, although internally cringing, I received so many compliments on my looks, colors, bright colors, etc. Totally shocked me. Now I'm in love with royal blue and that scarf - it goes with every bright item.
Thankyou. I look forward to your advice. Your advice makes me feel younger & pretty. You are helping me rediscover my style. Your advice is always the opposite to what my Mother harped on about. Mother squashed my style. She always said to me " go change; go wash your face ; your not wearing that in my house." She & my siblings always sniggered, criticized me, said that I had bad taste. She was absolutely horrified the day I stood up to her. I said no one has bad taste. We are all different & it was better than looking like a beige colourless pantry moth like her.
Marie-Anne this picture of you with longer hair and wrapped in a blue scarf at the beginning of the video, you look absolutely stunning! Thanks for yet another great video of public utility !
I've been a little too slavish to colour analysis for a few years and just starting to break free of it! On a different note, your best chic tip for me has been paying more attention to my shoes! It's made a huge difference - I'm often greeted with a "going somewhere nice?"; It's subtly changed my whole appearance, somehow. Thank you, Marie-Anne ☺️
I asked my husband of 50 years, Why have you never said I look nice. His answer was, pointless as you always look nice. Your the sort of person that looks like. your someone, going somewhere. Made up for the 50 years he never complemented me. I must admit that I have always been extremely well groomed.
Super excited to see this today! Because for Easter Sunday I’ll be popping bright pink spring dress in a wonderful fabric and style perfect for me!! I needed a boost since currently recovering from recent hip repair surgery. Crutches and bright pink. 👛🌸
Great tips! I think I look brighter and more vibrant these days in navy rather than black as Marie-Anne suggests - but a lovely silk scarf can revive an all black outfit for me! I have a great white and black polka-dot scarf that brightens my face up when I'm wearing a black top so if you love black but it's starting not to love you back - maybe try a scarf?!
You’re so right about red. I have a simple red sweater and I always feel brighter when I wear it. I’ve recently discovered that pink does the same, even though I always thought pink didn’t suit me. That pink sweater looks amazing on you, Marie-Anne. On the other hand, black, which I love, takes all my colour away, even more so as I get older. And some yellows make me look positively corpse like! 😱😀
Marie Anne I love magenta. I call this color not Barbie but Bazooka bubble gum !! You look terrific in bright colors especiallyin red. Thank you for sharing your ideas today.
Merci beaucoup Marie Anne for encouragement ❤️ I used to wear colours in my past but lately I started to go more neutrals. I wouldn't say that I am not wearing colours at all, but they're more in accessories - scarves, shoes, jewellery etc Love metallics, though. Gold doesn't suit me - I am a Silver girl 😊 Also, I worked out in my 20s that I could not wear black near to my face, and the navy is 'my black'. I learnt that myself by intuition and as an art lover. Almost all shades (except electric) of pink I like and cool red like berries or bordeaux. The same trick is with lipsticks - cool red shades are mine. Audrey was right - every woman can find red lipstick which suits her 😍
Awesome tips Marie!😃🤙 esp the Metallics!🥰. Lately I've been wearing gold and silver accessories together. (bracelets and rings). And it seems to work on me like an upscale boho/gypsy look (if you know what I mean)😅. Thank you so much🙏🥰❤️🌸
Such a great video, thank you! Best colours worn next to my face are lime green, daffodil and aqua, which seem to complement the light (spring) warm undertones in my skin and pair beautifully with basics in French navy and chocolate, with lots of favorable comments too. In my 70s, I find my undertones are more muted than in my 40s and 50s when I could wear vibrant orange and brown combos, which are a little overpowering now. (If I want a little preview of how I may look at 95, I only need to try on black, white or grey - those colours seem to suck the life out of me.) Sheen or shine in fine textured fabrics work best, and I love the way accessories like sparkly trainers bring an outfit to life. Getting dressed is such fun!
I have grey hair that I get lots of compliments on and blue eyes. Red and bright pink are really good colors for me. Green is also a good color for me in shades from seafoam, through aqua to teal. I also just bought a deep red lipstick that's just perfect for me. Thanks again for a great video!
Dear Ms Marie-Anne, It is fabulous! One thing I was never told (besides colours that fit)...is considering: fabric! You are right! I really did take notes of your precious pieces of advice. Now...Spring may arrive! Thank you Ms Marie-Anne, always appreciative of your generous (and happily done) work for us! helene :)
Here's an interesting experience I have with color: I own two coats that are EXACTLY alike EXCEPT one is black and one is fuschia. I always get compliments when I wear the fuschia coat. Nobody notices when I wear the black coat.😄🤔
Marie-Ann, I think I have your coloring! The pinks, reds and blues look best on me, but so does olive, like your Mango trench coat. I am currently considering adding a short red trench-style jacket to my wardrobe!
Bon jour, Marie-Ann! I absolutely love color! I gravitate toward colors found in nature…no neons for me! 😆. I look best in the cool and neutral colors. Can’t wear anything with a yellow undertone. It makes me look ill. I also have my spring/summer colors and my fall/winter colors which are in similar, but deeper tones than my spring/summer colors. I rotate them with the seasons.
As a redhead, I find I can't wear pink as it makes my skin look yellow!! I used to always wear neutral colours until my daughter said "Mum, you should wear more colour" so now I have a wardrobe in many colours and I love it. I'm 72. I love all your tips, Marie-Anne.
Natural strawberry blonde here. if you like pink try a cool pink not a warm pink or a light lilac. There needs to be a hint of blue in it. I tend to avoid all orange shades and most red/pink shades, but I have just purchased a raspberry cardigan left open with a white blouse it looks good as it is the white that reflects not the pinky colour.
I'm your coloring, Marie-Anne, (and I have two great grandparents from France! ) People will stop me when I'm wearing bright green, bright blues, hot pink (deep pink) cherry reds, and wine/burgundy. I stopped wearing black and brown in my forties because I felt it aged me. Now, I'll be thinking about wearing navy blue. 🙂
Thank you, Marie-Anne, for talking about how important colours are to create a fresh, youthful glow. I always wear colour (not 100 colours together) and it's amazing how the face changes. After colouring my hair a copper-reddish/light chestnut brown colour several years ago, I always look less tired regardless how tired I am. ❤😊
@@MarieAnneLecoeur So true, Marie-Anne. A little make-up tip that I live by is to apply a tiny touch of my red-lipstick on my cheeks. Ah, the difference!
I really don’t like the old lady flower top and boring beige trousers however it looked great once you put the coat on. Just found your post and I’m really enjoying it. Thank you
I look best in bright colors such as red, royal blue, deep green etc. I also have found black looks better on me now than when I was younger. I really don’t wear pink but I did get a magenta tee shirt for the Summer. Love the tips. Really these can be used at any age. ❤
Thank you for making this video. I wear neutral colours (especially white) most of the time. I decided to buy a crystal rose (pink) jacket recently and was complemented that the colour make me look radiant and well rested.
I love you. My wardrobe base is black & white with texture, blue reds, teal , & denim added. Simple, quality items in accessories, shoes, boots, & handbags. My clothes never go out of style. I always look “well dressed”. I wear hats almost every day. I wear almost no prints. Thank you for confirming my choices. I recently added a striped top to my wardrobe. Merci
Great video from a sympathic lady! And you look great. I like the idea regarding the bright colours -- often fashion is pale. Also I find interesting that you consider the fabric. This was new to me but is totally logical.
I've learned over the years that I can wear a dusty pink or a burnt orange or a brick red. Rust or burnt orange colors are usually what I choose. I think my skin looks best in a deep olive green. Somewhat limited. Everything muted. Oh well. Maybe I will fit the next trend better.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur I think the colors are much brighter than I can wear. Vivid greens and pinks, like your sweater. You look fabulous in the trend colors. I would look absurd. The tones I wear are from the 90s earth tone trend. Ugh!
Great tips, thank you. Interesting about the color red with me. I used to love it, and now I don't like the way it looks on me, I love the bright pink though!
I liked your section on style evolves. It does. I'm 71 now and I have suddenly gone hat mad. Anita Pallenberg type hats amongst others. They look surprisingly good and definitely make a strong style statement. It's just fun.
I wear most of these colours, except red which doesn’t do much for me. I have dark green eyes and I get lots of compliments when I wear green so I am always on the lookout for deep green clothes. I love metallic shoes. I have gold and silver sandals, loafers, ballet flats and heels, everything imaginable. I am like a magpie in shoe stores heading straight for anything shiny.
Beautiful video Marie-Anne dear. I would also add that keeping your heart joyful and always interested in new things and a positive attitude will also make us younger from the inside to the exterior.
❤Always loved a statement lip💄. Color can be so intimidating🙄. Was a lot more adventurous when I was younger with bright colors & bolder combinations. Enjoyed the spectacle. Later in life, I wasted a lot of money 💰 on colored & patterned tops that NEVER got worn. They were purely aspirational. Except for maybe a scarf, it took me forever to realize that no matter how much I liked a print in theory I dislike😖 it close to my face. There are a few exceptions, but mostly I prefer pattern located lower⬇️ in a skirt or trouser. 🤔Have a hard time figuring out what to do w/a solid color top outside my palette. Unless I can find something like a scarf that can tie them together. 🎉Appreciate that you've boiled it down to a simple way to gauge whether or not a color will suit your countenance. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
When you put that pretty green top up to your face, it was stunning. I had the same coloring as you, fair skin, very dark hair but blue eyes. Strong colors always looked best against my face. But my hair stylist has lightened my hair and put blonde highlights in. It seems like I need to wear fall colors. It’s hard to make the change.
As a natural strawberry blonde with turquoise eyes, most pinks, red and oranges are out. I can wear cool reds or very dark reds but my go to are shades of blue and green, naturally black and silver grey, no neons. I have just purchased a cashmere cardigan in a Raspberry colour, bit of a change for me but left open with a thin white sweater or blouse it looks good as it not too near my face. My skin easily goes pink so the green as you say cools it down. I tend to like what I colour 'clean' colours i.e. not muddy colours like beige. Colour makes all the difference to ones appearance and attitude.
I used to suit fuchsia pink but since my dark hair has started turning grey a softer shade of pink or other colours suits me know. Suddenly muted shades suit me when they didn’t before.
I did a small winter splurge a few years ago and bought a red skater wool coat. It’s so flattering. It doesn’t get a lot if wear unfortunately but when I do I always get compliments.
I have a bright pink blazer that I wasn’t sure if I should take with on my trip to Paris in May! Thanks for reassuring me that it would be a good choice to take along. I’m packing mostly black, cream, and white.
I think you have cold, bright and contrasting colors like me (or so it seems on camera) and cold and very vivid and pure colors give us life. Red, hot pink, pure white... and fabrics with brightness and contrast. On the other hand, there are people who need soft colors and they look beautiful, or warm colors. For this I always advise a professional who also teaches you to look for your colors by comparison
I really appreciate your advice about color and I'm going to try and add some pops of color to my wardrobe. I also like the look of a white Peter pan collar under a black sweater. The white collar softens the black sweater which can be too harsh on the complexion. I love black but it can make you look tired, as you pointed out.
I used to be confused by red, not sure which looked best on me. Then I managed to find three different red tops in the department store. Just trying each one on, I could easily distinguish which red looked best. Warm, muted tomato and rusty red YES. Cool blue red NO. Same story with pinks -- cool pinks, fuschia NO, warm peachy pinks YES. It's trial and error if you are unsure. Red lipstick is too harsh but I can wear a sheer red. ELF has a new line of glosses in small tubes which are a cheap way to experiment.
Bonjour Padraigam hair colour is something you really need to speak with your hair stylist about. They know your hair and what it can take and can advise much better than I. It is always a personal choice between you and your hairstylist. For example I suffer from thinning hair - not quite stress related alopecia but close. I have to dye my hair dark at the moment as anything else 'reveals too much'. I am not alone in this and there are many women who have thinning hair and it is something many struggle with. But by being open about it and prevailing against all the comments that criticise my hair colour choice and hair style it is a way of showing all women with thinning hair that they do not have to let it define them 🤗 sorry about the lengthy reply - I know you only asked about hair colour 😅
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you so much for taking time to respond! Thank you! Have you tried Castor oil for hair restoration? I am presently using it myself and it has helped me. I started wearing a wonderful shade of red lipstick recently for special nights out when I wear certain colors like black. It instantly transformed my complexion bringing out a warm creaminess of tone. I loved it. A few days later my husband confided that he didn’t find it attractive when I “lined my lips” like that. I suspect he was referring to the definition that the red color provided. It’s put me in a spot: I like it but I certainly don’t want to be unattractive to my husband. What’s a good response, Marie-Anne?
What a joy to listen to you Marie -Anne-so inspirational!! Can’t wait to start my colour searches , buy fabrics and then hunt out additional pieces and accessories…love that gorgeous reds are back again !!!
Marie Anne you are stunning and gorgeous. Wonderfully made.
Txs for the bright ideas.
Can I just say... how dynamic and bright you look in bold, saturated colours! I love the tomato red and the shocking pink!
Thank you for making this video. I wear neutral colours (especially white) most of the time. I decided to buy a crystal rose (pink) jacket recently and was complemented that the colour make me look radiant and well rested.
This pink is totally your color! Wonderful......
Wow the deep pink looks stunning on u
Thank you. So wonderful to try colours!
Merci
Great tips thank you!! ❤
Great video from a sympathic lady! And you look great. I like the idea regarding the bright colours -- often fashion is pale. Also I find interesting that you consider the fabric. This was new to me but is totally logical.
Marie-Anne, that red jacket is BEAUTIFUL!😍🏵🌸🌹
I love wearing color!!! Great video Marie-Anne!!!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Oui, oui!
I like watching your videos very much!
Okay yes i Bought the white ceramic ball that you have in front of the FP, I’m still looking for another!! It’s so popular sold out every where!!
Bonjour!😊 I am new to your channel. I love your honeybee cushion and the Breton top!😍
I like the silver-tip shoes and the floral print blouse.
Bonjour Audrey and a Big French Chic Welcome to you 🤗 thank you for sharing your style journey with us 😃
Beautiful video Marie-Anne dear.

I bought a red leather jacket and I got many complements!
I agree on matte black. I can't wear it at all. I actually prefer black clothing in synthetic fibers because those are the blackest tones.
I love your tutorial, I absolutely agree, colour can make or break us.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!❤
Thankyou so much lovely lady!
You are so helpful with your tip.
I have a bright pink blazer that I wasn’t sure if I should take with on my trip to Paris in May! Thanks for reassuring me that it would be a good choice to take along. I’m packing mostly black, cream, and white.
Red is a fabulous colour to wear, so is magenta
Fabulous tips! Thank you! 💐
Great video Marie-Anne, I have been enamored with Magenta of late, I love what the colour does b=for my complexion.
I love red and you look fabulous in it.
You look fabulous ❤
I feel self conscious in bright colors often but the bright colors look so beautiful on you! Can you talk about hair color?
Thank you for your videos! I discovered you about two weeks ago and I have been watching your videos and sharing them with my daughters. Since I am over 60 I have had the feeling that I would need to reinvent myself. Suddenly what used to work for me it no longer works! I said recently that I had become a stranger to myself! Your videos help me so much. Thank you again! God bless you!
Red is my fqavorite color .....
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you for the guidance. I can see the possibility of discomfort with a new look.💄
Always pink i get great reviews and black white and red together also
🩷 great colours Madge 😃
I love u in that jewel tone blue. You look so elegant.
💙
I would love to hear from you tips for short people specially in chic casual wear. ❤
What a joy to listen to you Marie -Anne-so inspirational!! Can’t wait to start my colour searches , buy fabrics and then hunt out additional pieces and accessories…love that gorgeous reds are back again !!! I’m addicted to coats last couple of years - hard to find good priced sharp interesting ones tho ….
Thank you!
