New to the channel and just saw this video suggestion. Its midnight so I've added to my watch later (see what I did there) list. I used to have one of these when I lived in Saudi and I LOVED it! Sadly long gone.
I am sure you can do it. Okay digital watches you might need more specialized equipment like an oscilloscope and a quartz tester. However the basics of stripping them down , cleaning and rebuilding anyone can do and it does fix allot of watches. In the next week or so I will start filming my digital watch collection on my second channel. Should be fun!
Hi! Thanks so much for making this video! I actually just picked up one of these watches (with guitar and 3 speaker holes, m-321) in great condition from a thrift shop for $10! It wasn't working, and I had never opened a watch before, so your video was a great help. I replaced the battery, but it still didn't work. Pressing the buttons didn't work either. I poked around and found out that there is an AC reset point. Jumping that to the battery did the trick. Fortunately I had a gasket and it is very clean inside. Thanks again for documenting this!
I remember this watch from the very early '80s and I was going to buy one but instead went with a TI and was happy with that but I always thought this one was cooler because of the music. The Texas Instruments seemed 'adult' and more rational, but I love that Casio and it's great to see that yours works so well again. And you're absolutely right about mesmerizing for kids in school. I had a girl who sat next to me in social studies and her family were recent Russian expatriates. She had never seen a digital watch like the Texas Instruments. Most kids who grew up during the Soviet era could not hope to have such things. She was mesmerized by it and asked me to look at it at her desk for about an hour while she completely zoned into it, which totally mesmerized ME as she sat with it gently in her hands, running her fingers over it, gently pushing the buttons, trying it on, etc. I had a crush on her and just to see her interested in anything about me was a trip. We know you really do this for the Ladies, Michael. 😋😄😉
Been watching your channel and you have inspired me to start a collection and buy watches to restore following what you do. Saw this and remembered i still had the first watch my parents bought me in the early 1970s...a red LED CBM time digital...a bit of a search through a couple of boxes and there it was, going to get a couple of LR44s tonight if i can and see if it'll live again! How to make a 57 year old feel 7 again.... 😂
Nice job. The Casio clones and other LCD watches witch melodys is what started me into fixing watches... 20 years ago. Thank you for bringing these back to life.
Nice job Mike...I love it. Yeah, sitting in a class of 200 in college, and on the hour, hearing dozens of watches go off was always great! My digital watch actually had a radio in it that you plugged headphones into. Wish I still had that one!

Hey, Mike, have you ever considered working on a vintage mechanical alarm watch?. I have a Bulova Sea King with the 11ATRCD movement, and it is scary!. Though it was working (barely), it was crying out for help because it was a grimy gunky mess inside. Well, I am now in the trenches. It is cleaned and I am in the process of reassembly. Wish me luck...I'll need it! 🥴🥴😊😊
Well...catastrophe!. I wondered why the balance wheel wasn't taking off. Everything looked good. Here I nosed around and somehow the bottom jewel had fallen out. What's the jewel called the balance rides in?. Half the incabloc shield was broken off and the jewel came out. Then, I looked under my microscope and the balance staff pivot is bent. How that happened...I do not know. I didn't bump it or do anything to it that I am aware of. What a downer!.
I made a digital watch timegrapher using a puls sensor hooked up to my oscilloscope and it goes down to picoseconds so you can see exactly when the pulse comes. Very accurate.
nice job on this one Mike, I love these vintage digital ones....really enjoy the videos of Vintage Digital Watches too...thanks for sharing mate, how is your health?
Thanks. Yes Tibi makes some great videos. He has done some repairs for me way back too. A really nice guy who is on the vintage digital watch Facebook group.
What a great watch! Reminded me of Mr Pickering who made geography so boring that 'Happy Birthday' would ring out whenever his back was turned. Happy days. Looking forward to seeing your digital watch collection on My Watch Reviews 👍
I think half the boys in my 5th grade class had one of these in 1981/82, including myself. We used to drive the teachers (and our parents) nuts with these! IIRC, mine was a black case with gold trim. It's the only watch that I haven't found from my childhood. Wonderful memories! Great job on the resto (I actually enjoyed seeing all the gunk being removed 🙂)
Hello, I loved the video and the restoration has been wonderful. My most sincere. Congratulations. I have a question, do you know how to set the time in 24h format on this clock? Thanks greetings!
Hi Mike, great video as always! I have a 1985 steel digital Casio with 100m WR (Marlin). I want to renew the gaskets to get it back its water resistance. Do you just have many generic gaskets lying around? And just grease on the pushers is enough like in the vid?
That’s a difficult one and no one will guarantee water resistance on an old watch. You can easily change the caseback gasket but pusher gaskets are really hard to size correctly given they are so small. Equally the pusher have to be removed and not all of them have e clips like this one in the video. Some you need a special press tool to remove them from the case. Then there is the crystal gasket which might be good but equally if an old watch of 40 years will have gone hard.
I had one of these at school, but now it is in bits. (The module still works fine though.) Do you know if it is possible to replace the glass crystal on these watches. I managed to crack mine when trying to get the back back on after changing the battery!
Enjoyed that one Michael. You have altered my thoughts about timepieces mate, thank you. I only know a couple of the tunes, there was one in the middleish that had a definite Japanese ear to it. I think the last one is played as men walk innocently towards promised happiness ....... We could have a Dna test done on that yukky gunk and find the original owner or his relatives.
I'm 50 as well and... Oh man.... I remember these. Wow... Something I just remembered watching this.. I had a pac-man watch when I was a kid that you could play pac-man on. Can't believe I've just remembered that. I'd love to see that thing again.
I have quite allot! Some interesting ones too. Plan to film that one soon maybe in stages like Seiko , Casio etc. Will all be on my second channel as I’m trying to grow that one . My Watch Collection.
@@MyRetroWatches I have a 80's black one with solar panel strip,( i think its more for show) asked casio sth pacific and they cant find any record and so i still dont know what battery it takes.
I think the light pusher you may have put the "set" pusher which I seem to remember on some Casio they were less pronounced than the function pushers so less likely to inadvertently set the watch by casual presses, it would explain the different shape and size to the other 3.
Because under the crystal is the inlay which would get ruined I think. Would be very hard to dry out too. The watch is 40 years old and I don’t want to kill it 😂
Great repair! I have been restoring the case of a white stainless steel Casio H104. Does anyone know how to blend in paint on speaker plate? Mine has rubbed off in some places and I was wondering if any way to sort that out.
Casio really knows to turn digital watched into something else .... I had a casio pocket game, same period of Nintendo G&W ... the sound was INCREDIBLE in comparison. The effects..... CASIO knows how to do it.
The dodgy bugs. lol Who knows. Maybe they're watch bugs? New species? Either way, great video. I have a handful of electric quartz digital watches haven't dug into them yet. Been working on my older gears watches for the last 8 months. Might change it up and dig into my electrics. Good refresher video. I have great knowledge on soldering micro spaces and if I come across a movement that has a tricky chip set, I can solder bad connections on tracers. Cheaper then buying or finding new.
Thanks for your comment Jay. My heart is in mechanical movements but I love all watches so will try to repair or learn about how they work. Soldering is something I am dreadful on and on a micro scale even worse but I’ve still managed repairs so for you it will a breeze. Glad you enjoyed the video , maybe watch my Sicura Electralite video as that has a really crude circuit repair
A demagnetiser tool. You basically push a button to activate the magnet and then draw the parts / screwdriver upwards aways from the magnet. Do it a few times. Just disrupts the electrons and removes the magnetism
A trip to memory (or is it melody)lane for me as well. As I told on the Facebook group. My mom got irritated by me, playing the melodies a bit too ofen when I was a 10 years old kid, back in 1981. She took my watch away from me and said I would get it back later. When later came, she could not find the watch again. She insisted that she did put it in a drawer. But could not find it anymore. It was never "found" again. Is suspect (no matter what my mother says) that it must have ended up in the garbage bin. 😞
Mums always confiscated stuff and hid it in a drawer (a bin more like) I had my black widow catapult taken from mum and I never forgave her at the time…
Thanks Mike. Trip down memory lane. I have a much much cheaper Convoy in my collection. 7 melody, not as fancy as the Casio, but its enough to scratch that melody watch itch. Dean
I like you am 50 (for two more months anyway) had one the blue resin case it was my first watch and yes I got it for Christmas 1980, I had a pavilion response to those tunes
The speaker comes out, it has a sealing gasket, move it slightly left and right and it will come out, you will see that it has a groove that has a gasket. this is so that you can better clean the holes where the sound comes out... I have 3 clocks and they sound very loud, they have those clean holes
I don’t. If they are crystal glass then there is very little that can be done by hand other than try to source a new one. With this model I have left as it is.
It’s just a plain standard one form Cousins. I buy them often and usually they have a point but with more of a flat for the oil to gather on. This one if using vertically does not deposit any oil. They do have the Ergonomic range which have a nice flat end but they are £20 each and break too easily
I am sat here polishing my "quality" whilst watching with interest as I have an ancient A904 Seiko I have long long not cleaned for fear of buggering it up beyond repair, finished my bronze Tandorio and now working cleaning my Aliexpress "Willard-o-like" then the usual weekly brasso wadding and dremel attack on my Soviet tank watches as very therapeutic polishing them... I do like my shiny :D

Impressive device, it's a masterpiece.
Loved this. Couldn't watch the grime part being cleaned though. Brilliant video, lovely Casio. Thank you.
I don’t blame you, it was grim work but hey all in a days work for a watch restorer! I’ve actually seen much worse before…
Thanks for watching !
Nice work, Mike!
Thank you.
That took me back, they did drive the teachers crazy 🧐😂😂
nice job on this one Mike, I love these vintage digital ones....really enjoy the videos of Vintage Digital Watches too...thanks for sharing mate, how is your health?
Haha brilliant. Annoying the teachers with anything was worth it
Even old casios need some love
I think half the boys in my 5th grade class had one of these in 1981/82, including myself. We used to drive the teachers (and our parents) nuts with these! IIRC, mine was a black case with gold trim. It's the only watch that I haven't found from my childhood. Wonderful memories!
Great job on the resto (I actually enjoyed seeing all the gunk being removed 🙂)
Brilliant. I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers these in the classroom!
Hello, I loved the video and the restoration has been wonderful. My most sincere. Congratulations.
I have a question, do you know how to set the time in 24h format on this clock? Thanks greetings!
Still got my old Casio from 80s with the blue illuminator light. Still going strong
In theory it can be changed if you can actually find a replacement
Enjoyed that one Michael.
You have altered my thoughts about timepieces mate, thank you.
I only know a couple of the tunes, there was one in the middleish that had a definite Japanese ear to it.
I think the last one is played as men walk innocently towards promised happiness .......
We could have a Dna test done on that yukky gunk and find the original owner or his relatives.
Someone in the comments has names every single melody!
Yes this one was a bit crusty but I’ve actually seen much worse!
I'm 50 as well and... Oh man.... I remember these. Wow... Something I just remembered watching this.. I had a pac-man watch when I was a kid that you could play pac-man on. Can't believe I've just remembered that. I'd love to see that thing again.
PAC man and other game watches are highly collectible. Great to go back in time and reminisce
I had one bought in Iraq in Never had problems. I gave it to someone, and now I regret.. Hopefully, casio will re make them. Thanks 4 the Video
Would love to see your digitals!!! I am a collector of early lcd and led watches myself.
Great job Mike. I enjoy your videos! Out of curiosity, why couldn't you clean the case and crystal in the ultrasonic? Afraid the paint would come off?
Because under the crystal is the inlay which would get ruined I think. Would be very hard to dry out too.
The watch is 40 years old and I don’t want to kill it 😂
Great repair! I have been restoring the case of a white stainless steel Casio H104. Does anyone know how to blend in paint on speaker plate? Mine has rubbed off in some places and I was wondering if any way to sort that out.
Really nice watch.
Thank you
Casio really knows to turn digital watched into something else ....
Nice!
How do u make your screwdrivers demagnetise?
Love to see this! 👍
A demagnetiser tool. You basically push a button to activate the magnet and then draw the parts / screwdriver upwards aways from the magnet. Do it a few times. Just disrupts the electrons and removes the magnetism
I remember getting my first Texas Instruments reverse polish notation calculator and thinking I am living in the future.
Mums always confiscated stuff and hid it in a drawer (a bin more like)
I had my black widow catapult taken from mum and I never forgave her at the time…
Thanks Mike. Trip down memory lane. I have a much much cheaper Convoy in my collection. 7 melody, not as fancy as the Casio, but its enough to scratch that melody watch itch. Dean
Thanks Dean. They are a novelty in todays world and for me at least it just reminds me of my youth .
What a treasure!
Sound verygood
May i ask what do you do to restore glass on this kind of watches? Thanks
I don’t. If they are crystal glass then there is very little that can be done by hand other than try to source a new one. With this model I have left as it is.
@@MyRetroWatchesoh it seemed nicer in the end 😅
I was reading to use wet sandpaper with dremel and cerium oxide; but everyone has his method
6:50 in. maybe the screw marked purple is a different size so as to prevent reassembly damage?
This is possible as I doubt anyone has been in here before but who knows . Very unusual to see though .
I had one of these back in 1982, mine was the version with the Black Case and Rubber Strap.
Excellent 👍👌
One in friend had one those digital watch from the late 70’s where press the button to light the watch in red digits….very collectible
What a cute battery pad connector ^_^
I had this watch in black when i was at school ime 56 now 👍
That last tune is handy if the organist calls in sick to your wedding.
Mike, may I ask which Bergeon oiler that is you do not like because it's too pointy?.
I’m leaving my bronze watches to tarnish
I wish casio would re-release something like this.
Very retro indeed.👍
I’m glad it’s retro and not vintage as that would make me vintage and I feel young at 50!
Thanks for tuning in!
Those Watches, like most things from the 80s, were really Tacky
My first digital watch played yellow rose of Texas, my mate got the Casio calculator watch, we thought they were magic
Was yours a sekonda? I think their first melody Watch played that
