Dude.... I've been watching the channel for years now, I never miss a video, and this video is seriously top notch professional stuff. I hope this video gets hundreds of millions of views. The information, the camera work, the choice of playing some Satie music and all the history and legacy and just the sheer number of famous people to have gone through there, as well as the incredible architecture and just imagining the years and years of ideas and knowledge being shared and spread through there, almost brought a tear to my eye. I never would have thought it was quite as special and important a place at it is. To be honest I knew absolutely nothing about it other than that it existed, and now I want so badly to have been born in another time and to go to school there. Truly, this was something special Ed, and you should get your own series on the history channel doing stuff like this. Anyways, I had to say thanks for the inspiring video, you did the place proud I'm sure. Truly a person worthy of walking the grounds. Take care.

Ed, this is beautifully filmed. This is near PBS-quality programming. Long shots, such as you crossing the small bridge, approaching the camera while speaking, a moving/panning shot from behind columns, interesting low-angle shots aimed upward. Most impressive is how you deliver spoken information, which, sure, must have been planned in your head in advance, yet it is presented flawlessly. If it were me, I’d keep screwing up, cursing loudly, trying again, screwing up and cursing again, etc. for eternity. Nicely done!

Back in the 1970s there were music festivals at Stonehenge (The Stonehenge Free Festival). This was before it was all fenced off and the festivalgoers were still able to mingle with the stones.

I live in the Lakes Region so joined the club last week after I purchased a used 'very vintage' Celestron C8 with a wedge mount.. Looking forward to meeting you sometime at one of the events or meetings at the Discovery center. Just great videos and great quality as well. I very much smiled at your discussion of using 4K, 1080 or 720, as I have been through the same anguish producing my own music videos during the Covid shutdown time. I visited Stonehenge in the 1990’s and back then the bus brought you up to the circle and you were allowed to walk among the stones. It was a very spiritual experience, only the sound of the wind and no one spoke.
Apparently they had a problem with vandalism so they had to rope it off. Too bad...
I believe it was fenced off in the late 70s, although it's possible you were given special access to go behind the fence. IIRC when I visited it as a kid in the late 80s, it was enclosed by a fence. I remember getting a shock from an electrified fence, which presumably was keeping some farmer's sheep in a field rather than me away from the stones. In the 80s they still had the brutalist visitors center which resembled a series of concrete bunkers. I believe a new and better one was opened about 10 years ago to replace what had long been deemed a national disgrace.

A quandary, do you go to the college to study something, or do you go to the college to study the college? Looks like either route would be very rewarding. I'd love to talk to the maintenance staff about the buildings, the challenges they face repairing or just keeping things up to snuff.

I worked in archaeology for many years, and attended several conferences in various Oxford colleges. At one such conference in the 1990s (I don't remember at which college) on the first night we had a dinner laid on for the conference. I went along and found a place at a table -- but I recognised nobody there. I thought nothing much of that, since it was a big conference and I was unfamiliar with most of the attendees anyway. So I settled in, chatted with my neighbours, ate the fantastic food, and near the end there were a couple of speeches by those at the high table -- all about the subject of chemistry. Turned out I had gone to the wrong conference dinner!

Mr. Ting, was any of the campus destroyed during WWII?
We asked that. The answer is no. Hitler gave express orders not to bomb the campus. His plan was to make Oxford his headquarters after he won the war. Oh my.
Oxford has one of the highest murder rates in the UK, according to an analysis of PBS British detective shows including Morse, Lewis and Endeavor, set in Oxford. Of course, the writer and creator had Morse smart enough to be at Oxford, not at Christchurch, but had him fail and leave school, heartbroken from a college love affair. Hope you read some PG Wodehouse on your trip, since Bertie Wooster went to Magdalen, Oxford! Liked your piano solo during the outro (a bit maudlin, perhaps; not quite a paronomasia but at least a homophone word). Waiting to see if you tucked a small telescope in your luggage (Dwarf2?), but with so things to light up a night, I'm guessing the light pollution in Oxford (and at Stonehenge) was pretty bad.
Ya know Ed, if you'd just buckle-down and graduate high school, perhaps they would welcome you as a regular College student!😁
