I know the other side perfecly... I rode a dirt bike over there for 20 years... I know the 6 foot track.. perfectly... and the rest as well.. my fave is the Kowmung! and Black fella's hands to Capertee!!!
Sydney Central to Katoomba and RETURN is a total of AU $13.76 (off peak,) Monday to Thursday or peak rate daily capped at AU$17.80 (Includes unlimited travel on trains, buses, light rail and ferries, throughout the entire Opal network. This daily cap is halved to only AU$8.90 on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays!!
The Occi hotel. Spent many (basically every) a lunch hour there, with the mates, in the 70's. 5 schooners and a meatloaf sandwich for just a few bucks. We had some very merry christmases there too. We all worked at the Bank of NSW across the road. Great pub.
Wonderful how you're staying in a "different" style of accomodation. Old-style hotels give a fully acceptable level of a bed & breakfast. Beds upstairs with shared bathrooms, drinks & food & friendship downstairs. As a sales rep I travelled all over & usually staid in the hotels. Well done on your choice
So glad you guys are enjoying your time in Sydney, I feel so blessed to live in this wonderful city. I'm sure you'll be taking a ferry or two across the gorgeous Sydney Harbour - Taronga zoo, Manly, Watson's Bay are all well worth visiting. Plus you'll get to cruise past the Opera House for just a few dollars, and it's clear you love a bargain! It's lovely to see people who have never lost that magical feeling you get from travelling. Enjoy!
Casual minimum wage is A$29.30/hr, 150% ($43.95) after 6pm or Saturdays, 175% ($51.28) Sundays, 250% ($73.25) public holidays. That's why restaurants and bars will have a surcharge on Sundays and public holidays. Below age 21, the minimum wage is reduced on a scale from 97.7% at 20 to 43.7% at 16.
If you get the chance go see Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains. It's the oldest caves in the world and has several cave tours you can do and also stay there overnight with the hotel there.
We spent our honeymoon in Medlow Bath at the Hydro Majestic back in 1983. It had been under refurbishment for 30 years even then... it's gone very upmarket since then.
Lamingtons were invented in Australia between 1896 to 1901 by a maid who worked for the Governor of Queensland, called Lord Lamington. She accidentally dropped some cake in chocolate, and rather than waste it, the lamington was invented.
Great video. Glad you're enjoying our country, you seem to be fitting in perfectly. Showing how much you can do with a relatively small amount of money can only encourage more visitors to come and see Australia. The more the merrier, we love visitors.
Looks like you had a nice day out. BTW, you won't need a National Park Day Pass to drive to (or park at) any of the tourist lookouts in the Blue Mountains, like Govetts Leap, Evans Lookout, Wentworth Falls or Echo Point (Three Sisters). They are free. As is walking in the National Parks. Scenic World, where the "cable cars" are, is free parking and access, but you will need to purchase a day pass for unlimited trips for the day on the cable cars/railway. There is also a public bus that leaves from near Katoomba Station and makes a loop via Scenic World and Echo Point.
Great video. We live in the Blue Mountains and love it up here. People are friendly. One thing though - that valley at Govetts Leap lookout is the Grose Valley. The Jameson Valley is where the Three Sisters is. Grose Valley in north of the Jameson.
Great video guys very well put together informative and sweet, my only suggestion would be to lower the background music for the voice overs as we struggled to hear ..otherwise awesome job, looking forward to more
If you have pay wave on your direct debit bank card you can just tap and go and pay with anything here including transport. Opal card is only needed if you can't do this.
A walk around the old Catalina motor raceway in Katoomba is also a cool walk if you are into abandoned racetracks and nature - it is slowly being reclaimed by nature, very lovely spot. Also there are many many stories of Yowies (Sasquatch-type creatures) in the Blue Mountains.
Haha, you were less than 100m from my house in Mt Victoria. Glad you liked the blueys (blue mountains). In winter we get snow. The areas you looked at were all devastated by the 2019 bushfires. The fires literally came up govetts leap. The bushfires came within 200m of where you had tea. You would never know, it grows back quite fast.
Looks like you had an enjoyable time. The Opal Card covers fares for trains, ferries, buses and trams. For those like myself who are on the pension, there is a daily price cap at $2.50 per day. So for example, on Thursday last week, I rode 3 trains, 1 ferry and 3 buses. Costing me only $2.50 for the entire day of travel.
By the by, Fiji Air is a full service airline and include two checked bags and a carry-on in the fare. A superb airline with excellent connections AU to US. Certainly a better carrier than AA and QF.
I have found that the people of the Blue Mountains to be exceptionally hospitable ! One day , the vehicle I was driving broke down on the Great Western Highway at Lawson . A resident came out of a nearby house and invited me in for coffee while I waited for assistance ! This would definitely not happen in certain other parts of Sydney . I also attended highschool in Katoomba for a year and made friends far more quickly and easily than anywhere else . The Blue Mountains climate is much more to my liking than that of humid , heatwave Sydney in Summer . If this couple finds $ 40 a bargain price for the train fare , what would they think of the Seniors Opal Card fare of $2.80 for a trip from Central to Lithgow and other destinations such as Newcastle ?
@nderlust You got a good price on the Occidental. There was a requirement for pubs to offer accomodation, which has slipped somewhat, but some pubs still maintain the rooms they had, with some modernising, although often the bathrooms are still down the hall. If you travel in the country you can frequently get cheaper accomodation in pubs, often near trains and main transport routes. And the beer is just downstairs! 😀👍 btw You may think the prices are "higher" in Australia, but unlike the USA the price is the price, no added multiple taxes and involuntary "tips". What we paid out of pocket for most things in the USA shocked us, because we felt the sting in the tail every time we paid for something.
Some of the rail platforms are curved rather than straight. They are quite old, and have been extended, and the curve leaves a wider space between the train and the platform
I think my mate has already had a few "schooners" lol 😂
I think “ old mate “ has had more than a few.
It sure seemed like was two sheets to the wind.
Silly as a two bob watch
This is a most lovely and educating video . Thank you for appreciating the Blue Mountains .
Thank you so much for your feed back!

I love those friendly Aussies!!!
I'm both.. A kiwi and an Aussie... born there.. live here...and a dual citizen.!!!
Angry Anderson clone! Lovely couple, obviously enjoying their travels. Keep on Truckin'.
Great video! I am so glad that you met beautiful people in the Blue Mountains. Thank you for visiting our beautiful city!
6:48 We're good at being good when drunk lol
So pleased you enjoyed our beautiful, unique country. Hope you come back one day.
Nice. For a couple of Sepo's..
😂
Does someone become a " sepo" after they have been a " sexo " ? Perhaps literally ?
Bonus lingo lesson! Thank you for watching

I recommend going to the Queen Victoria building before shop hours. It’s stunning
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll have to look into it!

I agree $20 is better spent on what you want to spend it on rather than what you have to spend it on.
Love the enthusiasm that you have for traveling.
Thank you! The more we travel, the more we want to see.

We love trying different types of places. We've also stayed in a container hotel, a capsule hotel and quite a few hostels.

If you have pay wave on your direct debit bank card you can just tap and go and pay with anything here including transport. Opal card is only needed if you can't do this.
But than you don't get charged 2.5% " Foreign transactions fee " and an incredibly poor exchange rate.

looks like you are having a great time, as a Sydney train driver, trains are the way to go for sure, enjoy your stay.
We really appreciate the whole transit system you have. Nothing like it at home that we've found!

Yes. If you use an Opal card you get the benefit of the daily and weekly fare caps.

Thank you very much!
Thanks guys. It’s closer to “gidday” fyi
We don't have a jungle in Australia. We have the bush or scrub...
Far north Queensland has tropical jungle and the Illawarra has sub tropical areas of jungle
@@ZootZinBootZ the proper geographic name is Rainforest. Jungle is a common term that doesn't have a definition.
@@grahamyates2490 Have you overlooked Rum Jungle on your pedantic ambitions or doesn't that place count 🤔
@@ZootZinBootZ LOL, yes, I excluded that because it's not a forested area.
I dismissed the Rum Rebellion on the same grounds.
Rainforest and jungle are pretty similar. Where I live I look out into the rainforest. Australia is the best place to live.
Ohh,go on,hurt me some more......The Hydro Majestic ? Just marvellous with so many personal memories...... I would've offered to carry your bags !
Absolutely gorgeous. We'd love to go back and spend more time there!
July 21 st lamington day - what the!?

Sydney is tge best 8m from Adelaide south Australia its a pretty city mot much here Sydney ive always loved as an Aussie 😊m
You were saying, “goo day,” like you were still saying, “good,” without the “d,” You have to just say the, “g,” so it’s, g’day.
Thanks for watching! I'll keep working on it
Don't pay the Airport tax for the trains. Catch a bus 2 stations down to Mascot or walk to Wolli Creek Station (next one east from the International)
Good to know. Honestly, as long as the trip to get there was though, walking to the train was as much as we could manage 🙂

there are eight continents;)
We've decided against visiting any submerged continents for now 😉
Welcome to Sydney! Nice try, the speed was perfect but the pronunciation wasn't quite right - guh-day, not gooh-day; the bush, not the jungle.
We'll work on it. Thanks for watching!
They were all gay ? the three sisters .. Yep I didn’t know that.
Fiji airways is not a budget airline guys, they're full service ❤❤😅
They had a great deal for us though!
