One of the best amps ever - played one for 32 years until it got stolen in 2014. I had others during those years, Marshall, Mesa but finally always got back to the Roadmaster. Even it has a little default - don't search a Master Volume - you want the real sound, crank it up :D
@@VitaTristis No, never found one unfortunately (except in the USA but shipping with that weight and changing transformers to 240V makes it way too expensive for an ordinary man) :) I now use a "cheap" Bugera 333XL 120W 3-channel head, and come on, for the price I paid new this is really a sweet one with character. Never a single issue in the couple of years I own it now.
I've had one since 1992. Played and toured with it, took a break for a few years, had it re tubed and lightly modded, now its my go to amp again. If it said "Marshall" on the case no one would question it, its got an 800 tone perfectly.
Please tell me who modded your amp ?? I bought mine new since 1984 ! Never used it outside my home that much because I wanted an 800 tone out of it ! I will send it to your amp tech !! For sure !
Main problem I had with mine was the pull switches got loose after a while. Aside from that you COULD do some serious weight lifting with that beastly head.
I was looking for a second head for 10 years without success - only one found in Italy but seller didn't want to ship. Mine got stolen in 2014 just after I had it completely overhauled for a little fortune unfortunately. Good luck hunting!
@@alexiserni1152 I found a matching half stack,...head and 4x12 cab in Cincinanti, the guy had it in a closet for 30 years, he dug it out, had all new tubes put in, $410.00 for the work, he sold it to me for $475.00, I'm running 2 matching roadmaster halfstacks in stereo..it really rocks...

@@solidstateappreciation Yeah I'm glad the Beat Club started posting higher quality versions of their TV performances. PS: If you ever get a master volume version of the Peavey Standard you should definitely do a demo of it
@@IanThatMetalBassist Ikr, I’ve binge watched Beat Club videos more than a few times recently. Tons of super cool and surprisingly good quality recordings. I’m always on the lookout for a master volume Standard, but they don’t seem nearly as popular as the non-master version in my area. I do have lots of other cool stuff coming up soon though (old Peavey, Sunn, Kustom, Randall, etc).
The main issue with playing this amp at lower volumes is the cooling fan for the tubes is fairly loud. So if you’re running it super quiet, you’ll probably hear the fan over the actual amp. For this video I had it turned down pretty low but still loud enough where you didn’t hear the fan.
@@solidstateappreciation Run a distortion or metal pedal and even at low volume it takes most of that fan noise away. Thanks to the heat build-up from the tubes (giving this amp its tone) a good fan/venting is needed or you'd be blowing tubes left and right.
Fantastic Demo! I have a question about the speaker impedance. The Amp wants 4ohms connected. Did your cabinet had 4ohm or did you have a slight mismatch? I'm getting this amp soon and 4ohm cabinets seems to be rare.
Thanks! I used a 8 ohm cabinet with mine. It won’t hurt the amp to use a higher load than the required 4 ohms, it will just be a little less loud overall.
I bought mine with a half stack 4x12 Scorpion speaker cabinet back in 1987. It's been more than a decade since I sold the amp so I don't remember the ohm rating on those Scorpion speakers.
WAAAY late to the convo but just seeing this. Great sounding amp but better step into the next room if you want to come near cranking it with super humbuckers in a SG!!
The tone is unearthly. The riffage absolutely fantastic! Great job!
I rescued one and had it fixed like new again , just need to built the cab for the head ,live it .Alfred NYC/ PR

I own one. It’s a powerful beast and weighs a ton!
Essentially Sonic Youth's sound
This plus a Jazzmaster is Thurston's sound. Wide buckers for Lee's sound.
Lynyrd Skynyrd comes to mind. Great sounding!
For me Molly Hatchet, saw them in 1983 using Peavy Road Master Dave, Duane, and Steve sounded awesome.
My first tube head was this one. It's as beastly as it is heavy. Lead channel started having fade put issues lately though.
Main problem I had with mine was the pull switches got loose after a while. Aside from that you COULD do some serious weight lifting with that beastly head.
Shoot that sounds killer man
I've been playing live with this head for over 20 years, I love it, looking for a second head if anyone has one for sale.

Is that a Beefheart riff I hear at 2:55? Sounds awfully close to I'm Gonna Booglarize You
@Ian It wasn’t intentional, but you’re right. Definitely a little subconscious influence there. Love that track, especially the live TV version.
