This argument is flawed. Induced demand means that if the expressway was built, it would encourage even more people to drive rather than bike, walk, or take transit. This would ultimately lead to the Spadina Expressway experiencing the same issues other Toronto highways are seeing today. Highways don’t solve congestion. Look at Toronto’s highway network compared to Los Angeles. Toronto has a very small highway network compared to Los Angeles, yet Los Angeles has even worse traffic than Toronto. Highways are not the solution to congestion. Clean, safe, walkable, bikeable, and transit oriented neighbourhoods are the solution.
Toronto has a long history of short sighted vision, from slapping up huge condos on Queens Quay (what a nice park it could of been, like Chicago's) to now with Tory with his leftists council who has done more damage to this city then all of the Mayors before him.
And that’s not all, it lead to a domino effect of cancelations. Interestingly there are bits of freeway segments scattered around that lead to scrapped projects. For example Highway 2A at the Kingston Road exit on Hwy 401, that was supposed to be the “Scarborough Expressway” which would have been a continuation of the Gardiner back to the 401 in practice. The Bayview/Bloor DVP exit would have lead to another freeway called the Crosstown Expressway Hwy 400 would have met the Gardiner around Strachan, ever notice those super wide lanes And finally, the Eglinton exit from Hwy 401 and Hwy 427 which has freeway speed ramps leading to it was to be the Richview Expressway
I agree with Mr. Godfrey...what exactly are people celebrating, more gridlock?? Logically, if the city is going to approve the Ontario Line to relieve congestion at Yonge-Bloor station, then it should also extend an expressway underground to downtown to relieve the DVP (Black Creek Drive should be extended IMO).
I feel so sorry for the people who have to deal with the DVP traffic everyday because of the incompetence and lack of leadership of politicians 50 years ago.
Thank god this was never built, it would've destroyed the west end of Downtown.
How typical, city councillors with no vision for the future.
They can't see past the next election.

canada has gone so down hill, leftists
I’ll bet it’s been 30 years since Godfreys feet touched a sidewalk. No wonder he’s clueless.

This is so interesting. I always wondered why allen road was a highway to nowhere.

If it were up to all the squeaky wheels we would all be on streetcars being pulled by horses.
@Dirty Burger
And happy like a pig and the shit.
Tax us out our cars. Gasoline, cost of vehicles, insurance, repairs, labour costs along with it, traffic tickets, parking fees. What's the hold up?
and work from home
It is nothing to celebrate. If the plans were completed there would be very little gridlock. Less smog. Less stress
Hear! Hear! Paul Godfrey is right.
That man is a cross between Don Knots and Christopher Walkens.
The GTA is a monumental disaster.....all thanks to justin tory and ford.........the 3 stooges!!!!
Glad I left the area....

so sad but back in the 70's growing up it was called the don valley parking lot, what do they call it today?
@@therealhotdog they still call it that
Nonsense.....it would have been a blight to the city
dont worry, just add some more bike lanes on the streets.
