    Tj owner here. You gotta give serious props to Jeep for the design of the jk and later the jl. There are a lot of things at play like epa mpg and smog requirements, safety requirements, business constraints such as having to make a multi platform engine work, consumer ride and handling expectations (specifically from folks that have never driven a Jeep but want one), etc. working against them. And they STILL made the wrangler crazy capable, customizable, and kept the iconic look alive. I love my tj for all the reasons you mentioned but I sure appreciate what Jeep is doing today for us.

    I recently picked up a low mileage, completely stock ‘06 LJ. I absolutely love that thing. It’s amazingly capable in stock form on 30” tires, and the sky is the limit on where I want to go when I start to modify it. No babysitters, just pure, raw 4 wheeling. Just how I want it. 0IIIIIII0

    The TJ and LJ are the last true generation of Jeep. Any Jeeper worth his salt knows this. I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn with the 4.0L I6, 3.73's, lsd and a Dana 44. Build exactly for what's nearby, beach and moderate trail wheelin'. Nothing on it for show. There are more challenging trails but have to travel several hours to hit them. I don't need 33's - 40's to wheel, if you have any skill and common sense, 2" Old Man Emu coils with 32" ko2's get the job done. I'm an adventurer, not a rock crawler. Rock crawling is like watching paint dry. Mostly knuckleheads destroying their axles, drive shafts and flipping their rigs! Absolutely asinine. Give me a fun trail to hit a good fishing spot with a good camp site or beach wheelin' for great surf fishing and beach camping any day.
    Incidentally, Brad could pass for Don Knotts' son. I respect his wife and son more for their TJ and 2 dr LJ Rubicon than all of his 4 dr limos that haul every possession he has on the trail. Men are minimalists or at least were when I was growing up. Today we're a rare breed.
    I am NOT a fan of any 4 dr limo heep, these are mostly pavement princesses rolling around in an aftermarket parts catalog. I cannot stand the site of these fugly, goofy 4 dr buses. The jk and jl are geared towards a soft demographic, soccer moms or pruis people that need all the bells and whistles of a luxury suv, never meant for any pre Wranglers and Wranglers! To make matters worse, the jk=just kidding generation ushered in plastic grills, plastic bumpers and that 3.8 mini van engine. The jl is more like an escalade, every fluff pansy bell and whistle, that's not what a Jeeps is!
    Our TJ's and LJ's have steel grills, steel bumpers, manual crank windows and manual locks. No unnecessary power fluff nonsense. Honestly, even though I respect and only see the LJ as the only true unlimited, it's awkward looking and I'm not too keen on it. I much prefer the TJ with its military short wheel base.
    A Jeep is a 2 door, rugged utilitarian vehicle, short wheel base, are nimble, (not a bus) allowing for better off roading in tight spots like an MB. If it doesn't honor the military Bantam and Willys MB configuration, it's not a Jeep. Like the spare tire cover says, There's Only One!

    Lol when he mentioned changing spark plugs on the JK, the 3.6 engine with the plastic oil cooler housing leaking problem no matter the year will bite you eventually too. Good luck getting the aluminum ones, nowhere to be found. JKs don't rust so bad though.

    I started with a 2 door JK, then the 4 door JK aka soccer mom jeep. No experience in previous models but I'm in a JT now. The only thing I like about the newer generations is it seems that the axles are just stronger. Seems like maybe less of hassle to run the tires you want?

      @@JeepTJWheelin to each their own, the CJs are by far my favorite Jeeps, but they aren't even close to being better. The JLUR is 11" longer, 13" wider, and 4" taller than the Scrambler. That's not a huge difference. Bumpers, tires and a lift can almost make that difference.

      @@jeepninja1 I love my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn but the CJ-7 and CJ-8 Scrambler are my favorite Jeeps. I just prefer the rugged original Jeep look that comes with any Jeep from '41 - '06. A tj is 1/3 the cost and the tj can do basically everything with advantages where being lightweight helps.

    Really not sure what lurching he is talking about?! Unless he is referring to crow hop and all jeeps do that right?! Unless cv front axles are used and even then it still does it but much less.
    Absolutely love our JLUR ecodiesel but I'd still love a TJ/LJ for tighter trails. However alot of our jeep usage is pulling a 2600lb "overland" trailer from Atlanta to Moab which is not a TJ/LJ job by any means.

    Not a fan of Brad from Trail Recon. Majority of his videos are basically infomercials disguised as Jeeping content. He tries to be subtle about the product plugging but it's just so obvious. Him & 6 of his buddies overlanding sitting in a circle at camp...all of them wearing KC & Milestar merch from head to toe with gravity pro 6 lights & Patagonias on every rig conveniently perfectly framed from every angle the camera's shooting from. Everything he says about whatever it is he's running on his Jeep is based on whoever it is he's partnered up with at the time. A couple years back he was running KMC beadlocks & STT Pros & praised that combo but swaps it out for Icon wheels & Patagonias under the guise of "shedding weight". Next thing you know, his whole suspension gets overhauled with Icon's coilover kit & it's "the best suspension in the world". Then it's Icon & Patagonias on all the Trail Recon Edition Jeeps being sold at the dealership he's in bed with. Fast forward a year, dumps the Icon suspension with all the bells n whistles with some bland Teraflex lift & back on KMC beadlocks because that's what he had in mind when building his "Dream Jeep". So much for shedding weight. With the exception of Dynatrac, He's the 1 and only person on all of RUclips that has a video of that ProFloat axle installed on a Jeep because Nobody's crazy enough to spend $8k on a glorified semi float. I'm assuming he didn't pay $8k for it either being that Jim just happens to be in that video too but I digress. That's how the game goes.
    The JL & JT are just 2 big rolling showrooms of shameless name dropping product plugging. He sold his soul to the Jeep aftermarket Illuminatti.

      You mean to tell me if you had companies wanting to sponsor you with parts so you could progress your hobby to next level you wouldn’t?
      Sure he pushes the products that are given to him. As a consumer of this kind of content you should understand that. That’s literally why they give it to him. How much is given vs purchased I don’t know. I personally enjoy his videos and the places he goes. If he has to air a little commercial time into it to help out I’m ok with it. This comment seems envious.

    • @JeepTJWheelin
      @JeepTJWheelin 2 года назад +1

      I agree, but he's certainly not alone in this, a lot of them do this crap. I don't care for it either. I actually respect his wife and son more for driving their 2 doors, her Rubicon Jl and his Rubicon TJ. It seems these 4 dr limo owners need every creature comfort of home brought with them. I'm a minimalist, so I especially have a problem with men needing more crap than their wives on these trips. All in all, his content is interesting but the incessant and constant modification is too much. Build it right and be done with it. All of our Jeeps require a lot of upkeep, you don't have to unnecessarily add to it.
