- Motorcycle testers Josh Siegel, Eziah Davis, Keith Culver and Anthony Mazziotto joined Nick Ienatsch for a retro-shootout that we never thought would happen again in this country: a pair of Honda NSR250s, a Suzuki RGV250 and a Yamaha TZR250. Here’s a video teaser!
Cycle World magazine is all about shootouts, so when we heard Tim Hope at Moto2 Imports was bringing exotic strokers into America we gave him a call: "Can you bring some 250s to New Jersey Motorsports Park?"
Hope and SpeedWerks' Steve and Seth Long arrived with a eight beautiful bikes to display at the MotoAmerica race, then left us a pair of Honda NSR250s, a Suzuki RGV250 and a Yamaha TZR250 for a retro-shootout that we never thought would happen again in this country. I was joined by testers Josh Siegel, Eziah Davis, Keith Culver and Anthony Mazziotto.

The BEAST of the 250s. Those things hit like truck when the power came in. Never forget my first go on one.
I'm still absolutely craving to ride one but their more rare than than the Hondas and Suzuki's
Personally I love the gamma 250 mk2 they are great fun! The RGV I havnt driven yet but I know a guy that will let me ride his one so looking forward to that
My mates spent more time rebuilding the kr1s than riding, my Ar125 was soft as well. Cant go wrong with a yamaha, I now have 250 3ma as in my video and 125. Love them..
I have an RGV250… always wondered how the KR1S handled in comparison? Would love compare all in one day.
I owned a RGV 250 and it really was a special bike.miss it so much and regret selling it
yeah me too, incredible little bike. Like driving a 600 that is 2x as nimble

My Aprilia RS250 cup bike is still my favorite track toy.

I have always loved the VFR400 or the RG 500 Suzuki square four but they are hard as hell to find the states. But I think I'm a bit too tall and a little too heavy for one of those bikesnow but I've always loved these two stroke Rockets.

I don't see the point of this video without some 2T action.
NSR definitely looks the best, but performance-wise, the RGV was closest to a GP bike for the street.. very easy to get 70+hp outta these

Despite owning everything up to and including Yamaha R1s, GPZs, and KTMs....my favourite bike I ever owned was my black and green KR1-S that I had in my youth. I regret ever selling it. It gave me the biggest grin out of them all, and back in the day, you could run rings around plenty of far larger sports bikes. Top speed of 139mph, making it the fastest 250 2-stroke ever made. I've always wanted to see a classic 2-stroke 250 vs some modern small-capacity 4-stroke sports bikes. One day maybe.

Japanese market versions are all restricted to 45hp as opposed to the 55-60hp versions.

were these models not sold in America or are those specific bikes grey market imports? I'm English so I'm familiar with these models. As a 23 year old classic enthusiast I'm noticing there's a lack of interest from our generation, hopefully prices reflect that in the future
By now I hope you've figured it out - the last street legal 2 strokes sold in America were the Yamaha RZ350's, in the early 80's.

A product that was not made to be sold in a certain location.
For example: A company wont crash test a car to conform to US standards and therefore wouldn't be eligible for sale here. I think....

I love these bikes but I swear it’s so annoying how bike manufacturers basically clone each other’s designs back then, like have some originality 🥲😂
