Not only do I really like the voiceover, I also really like the theory, largely because looking at the theocratic nature of Dema from a sociological perspective actually matches up with some of your points.
This video I made actually explaining how to categorise and define vialist doctrine will most likely never see the light of day due to me not liking the way the information was presented, but vialism in this state is based on Fundamentalist, World-Affirming Sects. What defines a sect is that it is isolated from the outside world, hostile towards outsiders, follows a strict belief system, is defined by charismatic leaders and often provides followers with a sense of purpose or security. This translates to the walls of Dema, the hostility towards the Banditos and escapees, the bishops as figureheads, and many people finding a sense of purpose and stability in Dema as noted by Clancy in their first letter as well as the letter when they are captured by Keons. As for the World-Affirming label, all this means is that the religion acknowledges the existence of wider society and will not necessarily bar anyone from joining their religion but will not conform to society unless it promotes the longevity of their religion; we see this in SAI with the bishops adapting and utilising a more televangelist approach to spreading their message.
The fundamentalist label only really doubles down on hostility and isolation. More importantly, like you noted, they focus on the "original" religion, going hardcore on traditional values because they perceive modern day religion to be watered down. Enforcing Vialism as mandate, enforcing strict rules and a punishment system for those who disobey the doctrine, really seems to enforce the idea of Vialism being a fundamentalist sect under the bishops. But the fact that it was hijacked and never used to be mandated ultimately implies a less harsher form of the religion - one that promoted guidance and the finding of the self.
You are right. The bishops are "tradition" and they disapprove of the non-harmful new way of connecting with other vialists because it threatens their stability (amongst other things).
Hopefully this didn't sound like a tangent. I am currently gripped by illness so potentially a little delirious. Loved the video, loved the vibe the editing gave and I love your content. It's a really refreshing perspective!

Thank you so much, I’m so glad you liked it!
That’s really interesting about the categorizing of vialist doctrine, especially about the doubling down on traditional values since they think the modern day version isn’t “hardcore” enough. It makes me think of the Pharisees in the Bible who made extra rules on top of the Old Testament law that the people were forced to obey, even if they weren’t biblical (as well as some modern day Christian’s/religious people).
Overall, thanks for commenting this and I’d love to see your video on it one day if you ever do end up uploading it!

I so much appreciate you putting your theory vids out there. They are well thought-out and supported with lyrics and scripture references. I see so many connections between the lore and the struggle between churchianity and true Christ followers, but I’m not up to the task of making videos!! I’m glad you’re putting it out there!
Thinking about the bit where Clancy writes “I can recruit everyone with eyes that see beyond the horizon”
It sounds a lot like Matthew chapter 13, where Jesus says in verse 13 “This is why I use stories to teach the people: They see, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really hear or understand.” And later in verse 16 where Jesus is commending his followers for hearing and understanding his message: “But you are blessed, because you see with your eyes and hear with your ears.“

Yeah, I also had this idea about the world of Trench being post apocalyptic, and that the Bishops twisted religions (mostly christianity) into this argument of "to pay for the sins of the past and of the world, sacrifice yourself and earn paradise".

When Clancy finally overcomes his fear, and yells SHOW YOURSELF in Paladin Strait, God races out to say hello to Clancy. Josh has represented the trinity over the course of many years. This is true. Ned is also God and Josh's dog, Jim, is also Jesus. Not everyone has followed the lore so God and Jesus were represented in other ways for casual watchers. The black markings on Tyler's voice and hands were never a curse, but rather his gift. He's just been running from them to appeal to the masses. He's made a lot of money doing so, but God is not pleased. The bible issues harsh warnings for false teachers and anyone who adds or takes away from the gospel. The non-lore songs/videos on the Clancy album demonstrate Tyler's remorse. I would love to hear your take on Next Semester.
