I encountered an issue whereby the area of a bay didn't exceed 30m^2 so what will be my approach in solving for the moments. And also will I treat the end two way slab as a simply supported? dr. plz ,,, am struggling getting the need for the 1 width strip in designing slabs.... i cannot understand why we are concerning about the width of the slab and not the length of the slab ?????????? plus how to deal with the slab load which is in kn/m2 while in beam the load in kn/m. Am too confused and i tried to figure out the reason and how it is applicable practically ???? what is the face of simplicity they keep telling about when they use strip method .... plz doc dont ignore my comment.

    • @MrElgamal77
      @MrElgamal77  4 месяца назад

      You can design for the whole width of the slab and get the total reinforcement in the whole width of the slab but this is not practical. It is easier to get the reinforcement in 1 m width and once you did that you easily can know the reinforcement the whole slab. In slabs, it easier when you have the reinforcement for each meter. It is easier for the workers and engineers on site.

    • @MrElgamal77
      @MrElgamal77  4 месяца назад

      When you have the reinforcement per meter it will be easier compare different slabs as well.

      @@MrElgamal77 Thanks doc.... yes am still confused doc , i know that it is an approach to ease the calculations , but am wondering do we take the width only because we consider it as beam ???? and why not we say take a strip of 1 meter length ?? why we say width . i could not figure it out >>> also doc , why it is not practical if take the reinforcement for entire the slab at once.

    • @MrElgamal77
      @MrElgamal77  4 месяца назад

      @@user-yz4sr9fs9e in the one-way slabs, most of the load will be transferred in the short direction of the slab. Very minor loads will be transferred across the long direction. Therefore when we design one way slab, we design only the short direction and use minimum steel in the long direction.

  • @ramonbaccomperi7871
    @ramonbaccomperi7871 2 года назад

    You said we don't need to repeat the step for getting total depth in case we realised something is different, I want to know what we are supposed to do in case you realised the diameter has changed.

    Dr when you assumed the modification factor for the minimum effective depth to be 1.3, do we always make the same assumption at the start?

    • @ahmedalaamri5060
      @ahmedalaamri5060 3 года назад +1

      No. It is a typical range based on M/bd2 and how heavily the slab/element is reinforced and the grade of steel adopted.
      Look through the table of MF and link it lightly loaded of M/bd2 ranging from 0.75 - 1 with the corresponding Fy adopted and you will see the typical range of that may be used.

Some engineers have been using the Main Bar (BB or B1) in the long span, and I would like to know if this is valid and it can be considered by BS 8110.
    Thanks in advance from Seychelles

    • @MrElgamal77

      Thank you for your interest and support. For slabs supported on four beams, the main steel should be in the short direction. If the slab is supported on two parallel beams, the main steel should be in the supported direction of the slab because all the load will be transfered to the beams. In flat slabs (no beams) the main steel will be in the long direction.
