I graduated the university with our Professor concelled this knowledge. May the Almighty Allah increase you in all ramifications of life.
    Amin.
Quick one sir, what is the maximum slab thickness to allow in designing for a solid slab. Your response means alot sir.

This has been a very educative and informative lecture. You have simplified the method and process of designing two way slab, both simply supported and restrained type. I can't wait for Part 2 and 3 on solved examples. Thanks very much Dr. and may you continue with your good work and GOD BLESS

Really great video, one of the clearest explanations I've seen. would be also really great if you do similar explanations using American standards, and i think that would be great for you aswell since you will tap into a whole new audience.
I also have a couple of questions:
    1) what to do with the alpha and Beta coefficients if they are in between the ones given, such as for a slab sized 7x4m, ly/lx would be 1.75, is the appropriate solution to interpolate the coefficients, round up (1.8) or round down (1.7) ?
    2) As you probably know, very often you get buildings (specially private villas and buildings of that sort), where column layout is very irregular, resulting in a non rectangular slab, i know in practicality FEM software will be used, such as SAFE, but it would be great to know the solution to this as a manual calculation..
    3) similarly to no2, sometimes even if the slab is rectangular based on the column layout, beams are not always provided/possible due to architectural restrictions. what would be the solution to this? for example an "internal panel", that is continuous on all 4 sides, but say 1 of the sides has only columns without a beam...

Dr.shari you answered one of the peaple about can we use the table of two way slab for un equal span and you said we can use it but in the cod part1 23 october 2002 in clouse 3.5.3.5 state that
The condition in which the equation may be used for continuous slabs only are as follows
1.the characteristic dead and imposed loads on adjacent panels are approximately the same as on the panel being considered
2.the span of adjacent panels in the direction perpendicular to the line of common support is approximately the same as the span of the panel considered in that direction

These conditions are used for one-way continuous slabs not the two-way slabs.

      Thank you very much
But this clouse talk about two way and in the beginning of clouse 3.5.3.5 " state that Restrained slabs where the corners are prevented from lifting and adequate provision is made for torsion : condition and rules for the use of equations 14 and 15 "
And you can see thise equation from clouse 3.5.3.4 this equation about two way not about one way .

    • @MrElgamal77
      @MrElgamal77  3 года назад +1

Thanks Mohammed. What you said about clause 3.5.3.5 is correct. It is for two way slabs but you still can use equations 14 and 15 for two-way slabs with unequal spans but you need to do some extra work to distribute the different negative moment values from the two adjacent slabs. This is explained in clause 3.5.3.6.

Without using that table and the formulas, can we just use moment distribution and sway analysis to get the moments? will it be accurate as same as the formulas given in the code? What are the options?
