You need to add to the guide that the valheim_plus.cfg is only generated after the first start up. I thought I downloaded the wrong thing.

@@girthquake0338 did you run the server after you moved the bepinEx and Valheim plus to your dedicated server folder? I started the server after the install and it generated the file for me.
This video is absolutely fantastic. To this day I noticed there is still very spotty info on server modding. Most sites are pushing affiliated 3rd party hosts to get modding done. This is the only video/information I could find that showed how to mod the base Valheim Dedicated Server for a personal server.

Hey awesome guide. Some friendly feedback if your interested. On a longer tutorial like this I would suggest getting some notes setup beforehand to keep you on track. It was easy to tell sometimes that you forgot or lost track of what was next. Also watch that spelling. You caught 1 of 3 typos. Code does not forgive lol. But all in all great video and thanks for putting the info out there, last one I watched had us installing UMod and some nonsense, this is definitely the simpler version everyone needs

An easier way than using steamcmd is, in your steam library under tools there will be a 'valheim dedicated server' install that and you got the base of a server

Thank you for this guide. I had been looking for info on how to mod my dedicated server running on my spare PC and the only thing that came up was UMOD which doesn't have very much to it. I could not find a comprehensive guide until i stumbled on your video here. NOTHING I read was telling me that I could use any mod in this manner. Thank you again.

Thanks for the help, 1 issue my wife and I are having, we both have v+ installed and on the server. But when we try to join my dedicated server, it says " incompatible , must be using version 0.211.11" which is what we are both using?

So basically a server host can't just set up a server with all the mods and anyone that joins has access to them ? All players must individually install the mods themselves to be able to use them in the server ? Or did I misinterpret somewhere haha

Thanks a lot!! Been looking something like this, friends and I started paying for a server like 3 or 4 months ago because waiting for the person hosting was a pain. Do you recommend having this on the PC I use and everyone having access to it; or better to have an independent PC connected 24/7-ish?

I installed Valheim plus into my dedicated server file and now my server won't launch. Do I need something else to run mods? I've been trying to figure this out all day and Im ready to get rid of Valheim all together, so beyond frustrated.. I had to disable VP doorstop config and now it launches but now I'm more lost. Just wanted to add some mods to my server and it's a nightmare

If a mod is on the server but a player has different settings on the mod which dictates the outcome? I'm assuming if server side has xp multiplier disabled then a player on the server can't have that enabled in their files?
I think that depends on the mod. Most of the time the server side will win.
@@Cubancigar I did some testing and for the mods I have currently it seems to be that server side wins
What if youre running a dedicated server through steam, like i downloaded the valheim dedicated server? mine is NOT running on steamcmd. Do i NEED steamcd to add mods?
No you don’t need steam cmd. You can still follow the same process once you have the server installed through steam.
When I setup mods on my dedicated server on local pc, I can no longer connect to the server running on my pc, it just times out. It tries to connect, but fails.

I went back to unmodified server by just renaming the .ini file in folder that initiates mods to .ini.old and it went back to working fine when I was connecting with a vanilla client. But when I try modded server + modded client it doesn't work, and I copied the mods over from client version to server version and the logs indicate same things are loading so I'm not sure what's up.
That is a very strange issue. Try connecting to the vanilla server with a modded client. I've recently learned that most of the mods are client side and don't need to be on the server. Thanks for watching and commenting. YOU ROCK!!!
I found the problem, it was a mod BetterServerConfig, that resulted in my inability to connect.

I did not quite understand how a friend could join. And if i understand this correctly we both need to do this server dedication thing and client thing. And of cours install all the same mods

Why is needed to install the mods in the server if everyone who wants to join has to install it in his client too? what´s the purpose of install it in the server if can not work by himself? because if every client has it installed works fine and there is no need to the server installation step. sorry for my english, i hope that my question can be understood, thanks!
You question is valid and understood. It all depends on the mod. Some of the smaller mods work fine just on the server but some of the larger mods require both.
@@Cubancigar mmm then i don´t know what i´m missing, because i can´t make any mod work on the server side, do i need some line of command in game console or something? everything works fine, my friends can connect and play with me but i can´t make any mod to work serverside, and not all of them likes to mess with modding from theirs side (even when is not so difficult to do).

I would try connecting direct using the IP address. I had the same problem. after connecting to it a couple of time directly it finally popped up on the list. Thank you for the kind words for watching and commenting YOU ROCK!!!
Nice, guide, but man you cant spell :D anyway, jokes aside i had a question - If i set up specific config in my dedicated server, does it has to be set up the same way for everyone that joins? for example, stack size to 100 is set inserver, does my player also has to open config and place the same values there? Thanks for the info :)
LOL. I tend to have brain farts when recording. The servers configuration will be used. They just need to remember if they don't have matching stack sizes they would lose some of the items when switching to a new map. so your friends should match up their respective config settings to your servers config settings. So I'm really stupid, what's the difference between making a dedicated server and just making it normally through the game? Also can't I just add mods to a world I already created? I just wanna add one mod to one server I didn't expect all this to be so complicated.
Making a server allows your friends to join your game even if your not playing as long as the pc is running.
Yes you can add mods to a world you already have.
Just as a heads up, you probably need to update this as half of these steps don't work.

Hi, thank you for the vid! I mainly came here to see how to add mods to the server because I thought that would automatically allow my players to have the mods upon joining, but apparently not?
1. Now sorry, I know this might be a dumb question, but what's the point of installing mods to the server files if all players need to have the mods installed client side, anyways?
2. Also, if I wanted to install extra monsters mods to my server, does that mean everyone who joins the server will have to have them on their client side as well?
Unfortunately this is how it works. because this game does not use the steam workshop this is the way it has to be. Some Mods are server only side, Some are Client side and some need both. You need to read the details of the mod or just try each way. Thanks for watching and commenting YOU ROCK!!!

Hi! Great tutorial! I am following this on May 19, 2021. my vortex downloaded and installed the server copy of Plus when I said manual download, and I can not get to the config file for the server. What am I missing? or, has this changed since the publishing of this video? Help would be appreciated. Thanks

@@Cubancigar Thank you for replying, and trying to help. I finally figured it out. I do use vortex for downloading and installing, but somehow I managed to create a server through steam that shows up on the front page world list on the log in screen & one on my computer that you have to go into the community server list & join. Vortex installs into the one on the front page, & I have to manually install into the local one I join in the community servers list. Hope that makes sense. (Cause its confusing to say) I'm not terribly good at these things, I learn through videos on RUclips. Ya gotta understand I'm a 58 year old gramma that happens to enjoy gaming. LoL

A lot of mods became useless with the last major update. You need to make sure they have been updated
I have problem when I want to turn on the server it shows me that the valheim_server_Data is missing while it is on top so I cant turn on the server
I haven’t tried this with the update yet. So this method may have changed.
@@Cubancigar Please try this I want to play with my friends with Chaos Armor and other mods but we can't I wanted to download the Mistlands mobs too but it will work when they update it
I updated my valheim server and now it loads a completley fresh world, any idea on how to fix this?
you have to make sure you change the map name in the config file again.

yes you can but you have to manually install the mods on the server.

No that service should do the install for you.
I was able to join the server when it was vanilla, but I added Valheim plus and now I can't log in
you need to make sure you disable the compatibility check in the Valheim plus settings.

I'm not sure I understand your question. The video starts out with creating a vanilla server then I go into how to mod it.

@@Hipnotizy you may have a issue with your port forwarding. you will need to find instructions on how to port forward your router.

that is a hidden folder in windows. you have to turn of show hidden files.
