      It's because most mods that add stuff to the game use already made graphics. Either you use free stuff or you buy some cheap ones. Coding is usually the stronger part of a modder's gift. Not saying they can't make graphics, but that is usually not the focus. More people that can do great models should offer their help with mods and we'd see a lot better mods at the end, but good luck finding them doing it for free.

    I started playing last month and have been enjoying it. It could definitely use some quality-of-life updates. Some of these mods fit in better with the base game than others. Personally, I would want to preserve the Norse feel more and plants like bamboo, rice, corn, and potatoes don't fit that. Bamboo is from Asia and the other crops are from the Americas (ie not native to Europe). Looking at the list of crops in Valheim turnips, carrots, onions, blueberries, raspberries, and cloudberries are all plants "Vikings" had access to. Some other crops I found that the Norse would have eaten are pears, cherries, plums, blackberries, and strawberries (according to Google). I would say the same thing about animals. Cows, sheep, goats, horses, hens, and ducks would make sense.

    • @christianevald

      Wild strawberries, just to be specific. Modern strawberries are actually the result of a failed hybrid grown in France during the 18th centaury where they wanted bigger berries and therefor crossbred Fragaria virginiana(from north america) with Fragaria chiloensis (from Chile). It's considered a fail since, although the berries did get larger, they also lost their flavour profile.

    • @christianevald
      @christianevald Год назад +8

      @@colorblockpoprocks6973 Not really. Potatoes originate from South America and wasn't discovered by Europeans until 1530 AD and commonly used first 150 years after that. The viking period in the north died out around 1100 AD and although there are proof that vikings discovered north America, less evidence can be pointed at them finding south America as well.

      Smoke weed everyday? Nah, I'm good, brah.

    @Jalbesbe Год назад +17

    It didn't take 3 years for Mistlands. There were many other updates in those three years. The main consumer of time is when they were first porting it to console, and each update them having to make it work with consoles which slows progression so much.
    Also the Ashlands is nothing like Helheim's depiction. You are thinking of Muspelheim (Múspell) which is a burning hellish landscape. Niflheim (or Helhiem) is a cold and dead place ruled by Hel.
    Sea serpents do not spawn at random, they have very specific spawner zones where a spawner can well spawn. It is always a good idea to mark on your map where you see Serpents or Leviathans as they will only spawn in that area. If you make a newer world they did decrease the amount of serpent spawners in worlds sadly, due to the fact they used to spawn way too much, you'd go serpent hunting and while dealing with one you'd run into another. Not a terrible thing when you're trying to kill them, but if you're just exploring and traveling, or under geared it makes the ocean impossible to travel.

    I am only 38 seconds in the video and stopped and I can not believe anyone can complain about a game that is one of the best games I have played in years for a whole $19.99 way way way under priced if they would have raised the game price to $40 or $60 would have still have been worth every penny, but back the the subject I think they are doing great on a game that cost so little with it's development I am sure if everyone would have paid more the game would be getting developed faster.

    For god's sake, it did NOT take 3 years for mistlands update to be ready. There were minor updates and bug fixing throughout all this time:
    - February 2021 - April 2021: Bug fixing to ensure the game ran smoothly for our massive influx of new players.
    - May 2021 - September 2021: Main development of Hearth & Home
    - October 2021 - November 2021: Bug fixing for Hearth & Home, as well as developing the Abomination, and starting the development of the Frost Caves
    - December 2021 - February 2022: Main development of the Frost Caves
    - March 2022 - December 2022: Main development of the Mistlands
    - January 2023 - present: Hildir's Quest and Ashlands are in development
    Ashlands will be ready in half a year, tops. Plus, the devs said they'll be more transparent about ashlands than during the mistlands development.
    I'm not against mods, really, I like it vanilla, and anyone can decide what they want in the game, but stop saying it takes years for another biome to be developed, this is simply not true.

      I made some changes:
      • Disabled TeleportWolves - the mod doesn't work at all and it breaks the game.
      • Disabled Biome_Flora - Tanks framerate to an unplayable degree.
      • Disabled Farmyard_Animals - Bad mod compared to the others.
      • Wildlife - Bad mod compared to the others.
      • TheFarmer - is literally incompatible with BetterTrader, so I don't know why it's on Haunted Oath's list.
      • Got Better_Trader_Remake by Digitalroot - The original literally doesn't work.
      • Disabled Troll Visual Upgrade - You can reenable this if you want, I just wanted to trim fat.
      • Disabled Basement - It just seemed like a dumb mod so I disabled it out of the chute. You can run it if you want, I just haven't tested it.
      • Added FloorsAreRoofs - Made it so the stuff on the lower deck of my ValheimRaft ship can be used.
      • Added VALKEA by The_Bes_Decree - Someone I'm playing with wanted it to make some finer details on the ValheimRaft ship. I devmoded the hammer in because the cost of it is just stupid.
      • The modded-in animals have mod-proprietary hides that are only good for making rugs. I changed them in the configs so they're either Leather Scraps or Deer Hide so I can actually use them for stuff. I can go over how I did it if anyone asks.
      Honestly, there's so much wrong with Haunted Oath's modlist it's like he didn't even test it. I can't believe the comments aren't full of people pointing out the issues I mentioned above.

    Of all the games to complain out there Valheim is the only one that nobody should complain about and yet here we are .... Imagine that.... 3A devs release half finished buggy messes at 60$ a pop and get awards and continue to ask money through dlc packs,get showered in love and you get content for like 15-20 hours. A small studio that has the decency to keep their game as early access, prices it accordingly, doesnt ask for and made a commitment not to ask for more money and has the content to play for hundreds of hours, respects its fan base, adds updates at regular times and all it gets is complaints .... Good show chaps. No wonder cyberpunk and darktide are successful

    I dont at all understand the critique of slow development. Not that I deny it, but I think it is pretty understandable and when you compare this game to other early access games... darn, I played with a friend who (after 60hrs playtime!) thought it was already a full release. For me the slower development in the past has been understandable and I have no problem with it. I can play other games and come back for the next biome one year later, as long as it is this reasonable amount of time, I want a finished game not a rushed game...
    Edit: what also irritates me, is that support for other platforms / cross-platform support is completely ignored. That is sth that takes a lot of time and you as a first release pc gamer wont benefit from, but others do.

      I think that people that play with mods are a little delusional about what real game development looks like. It's very easy to make mods with the game as a framework, developer APIs, etc. compared to actually developing the game where you're sometimes working on multiple features at once so you can push on with the roadmap, while trying to polish the main next feature for launch. A long term, large scale team project is very different from coding a mod for it in your basement on the weekends.

    • @stevenfox9695
      @stevenfox9695 Год назад +5

There are freebie tools and whatnot for various modifications for the roms, but his goals were too lofty for that and he had to figure out how to modify the games on the code level. He was shooting for making a new game in that engine, basically.

      @andreipopescu5342 but valheim IS the game it should be. It's the game that the Devs want it to be, and if someone wants to play it vanilla, that's fine. It's their money and their choice. For me, and loads of other players by the thousands of mods out there, it is not the game that the ' players ' want it to be. Even adding half a dozen mods can improve the game SO much , that you'll never go back to vanilla. But fortunately , it is every players choice. I choose to use a few mods, around a dozen. And it makes the game so much more fun. For me. In this day and age , we have choice. Play it vanilla, play it modded, just ' play ' Valheim. Enjoy. :)

      The gear and new creatures ones seem like they'd be too much bloat to be fun. I've tried similar things on Minecraft and those tended to end up being too much crap to keep up with and felt like a chore instead of an improvement.

    I think this is all looking nice. But i dont like the idea of everything progressing endlessly. What would biome 10,15 or 20 look like? guns? Lasers? Fighting aliens and gods? Its like you are trying to update "chess". You can add all new cool pieces that move in different ways and it will just end up being stupid and complicated. I liked the simple times in valheim, trying to figure out how to build your crapy wooden house, just walking through medows, black forest, and just exploring all the new stuff, never knowing what you end up encountering. Then landing in swamps and finding how harsh it was there. I think we are never getting this back. It was the magic of exploring NEW, yet simple and beautiful. UNLESS- The only idea that comes to my mind to replicate this feeling would be having such a huge amount of mobs, recourses, weapons and biomes (possibly generated randomly to big extent) That every world you generate, would end up with only a low percentage of these resourses, mobs, bosses, weapons and bioms availabe from a huge pool. That way, every time you start a new world, it would be absolutely a new experience and you would have clue to what shore your travel would lead you to and what boss you encounter there. All the weapons you would have to find out how to craft, find the best foods etc. This for me is the only chance to replicate the original love i had for Valhiem.

      @@frostxr I finished the game a couple times and then took a break for elden Ring and other games. Came back when a friend convinced me to try single life. That took a while to complete. Then I made a server for us to play together single life. Then Mistlands came out, and I started from scratch there. The game is just so peaceful but challenging at the same time. Its fun to start a new world and find where everything is. Now I'm dipping into mods. I just a sngle lfe playthrough with Epic Loot, which was fantastic. Now I'm doing a run with the Journey to Valhalla mod. There's just something meditative about chopping wood, trying to get better at building, finding a new spot for a base, sailing.

    Oddly titled video. Should have been "Modding Valheim into the Game I want". Mods are great in the fact that you can pick and choose how to change the game up to your style. But the game being developed is the game the way it should be for game maker.

    • @noahodum9737
      @noahodum9737 Год назад

      Most mods run on Valheim+ or Jotunn which is a mod compiler, which ultimately means most will work simultaneously unless otherwise stated by the mod developer (use at own risk)
      I run about 15 mods for QoL stuff (xportal, plant everything, planbuild, build camera, etc) simultaneously that don't impact eachother heavily. Occasionally a mod will break though, and you'll have to turn them all of and test them one by one to see which one causes the problem. Usually updates come in about a week of it breaking though so nbd.
      I haven't tested any game-changing stuff though. I would add the dual wield mod personally so that daggers are actually something that would make sense to use, and axes as well, but none of the other mob-adding ones or biome changing ones would I add personally
