Smashing ride Peter and wow what views. Plus some new tarmac, blimey I've forgotten what that looks like. I bet they have spent the entire UK road repair money on that bit of road. Looking forward to next Thursdays episode👍
Thank you Paul. Yes, why they chose to surface that particular stretch I'm not too sure as I hadn't remembered it as being in need of attention. Stiil, the money is gone now so we can't expect to see anything like it ever again, unless it is portable and the idea is to take it around the country as a show piece 😂
Hi Peter not been watching too much of late, but just thought I need to get back to it,what a fantastic ride one I need todo, thank you for doing it and of course your professional way, super details of the area thanks again will catch up soon Ted alias Bay Bimbler
Hello Bay Bimbler ☺️ and like you I've been keeping off the screen as my eyes were feeling tired. Okay again now but it was definitely a warning that too much screen time and working on fine details on these models in bright light isn't a good idea. Yes we do have magnificent riding countryside here and I've been out exploring more of it over this last week or so now my eyes are back to normal. Hope your leg problems are better and you too can get back riding again. This coming month is rather busy with holidays and visits from friends but July is looking fairly clear at the moment so I'm hoping the weather will be more settled then for longer rides. Take care, Ted.
Very, very familiar to you I know, Paul but despite just living 20 or so miles away it's still rather a shock to find such a different landscape trom what I see each day.
Once agin a most pleasurable ride, thanks Peter. I do have to say that the viaducts you picture always conjure up positive images. Nothing was impossible when those were built.
Thank you Joe. The architects and engineers back then not only had vision and as you rightly say a positive "we can do it" attitude but they also had an eye on what would enhance rather than detract from the landscape. And well over a century on we're still able to enjoy their achievements.
Morning Peter 😊 always nice to see Ribblehead and all the walkers starting the 3 Peaks Challenge, which I never got around to doing 😢 flipping Eck that 2005 Yamaha Fazzer 1000 was going a bit quick, hopefully he or she will realise the error of there ways just like we have 😊
The smooth lane into Dent Dale didn’t last long! But the viaduct at the end was well worth it and worthy of a photograph. I am looking forward to next Thursday’s installment. 😊
Oh yes. It would definitely be bleak up there in the rain, the rain probably coming in horizontally ! That view of the viaduct nestling between the rolling hills is indeed one of the best views you could ever hope to find. Absolutely stunning. I dare say that in days gone by, many a brave soul was sat out there in the elements with his easel, trying to capture the scene on canvas. You'd struggle to find a better motif. But obviously, taking a photo with your phone is a fair bit easier, so not sure why they made all that effort to be honest 😂 A lovely, slightly bracing ride, ending with a truly spectacular view. Lovely. And now I need another coffee Peter......... Love from España Garry & Ruby
September before last I drove that road in the campervan to a site just outside Hawes. Left home in sunshine. Got to Ingleton and rain began... Horizontal it was and there was a huge cycle race on. I could barely see them as none were wearing bright tops. That was so scary.
My kind of riding Peter, beautiful scenery and quiet roads, even the little villages offers a great backdrop. You are so right when you mention lighting conditions, it can be the difference between an average ride and a stunning one. I had a big ride this week and was coming home in the evening via Glenshee and the lighting was very atmospheric and has produced stunning footage. It made the final section of the 275m ride very enjoyable. The via duct view is indeed stunning. thanks for such a wonderful ride.
Thanks Alex. Look forward to seeing your Glenshee ride soon. Last weekend was glaring sunshine so unless we'd been out either early or late in the day, lighting would have been very harsh. As it was I got out walking early before the weekenders descended... And now my heating is back on...
Good morning Peter. Well this has been a treat! I’ve been fortunate enough to have ridden this road several times, but not during a quiet, traffic free time like this. The landscape is spectacular isn’t it, and although the road is straight it does have some fabulous undulations. It’s a marvellous sight when Ribblehead viaduct comes into view. The prevailing lighting conditions really does play a massive part in the experience doesn’t it? I’ve started to say to myself “mm this lightings not ideal or, mm this is ideal lighting” when making videos, well I suppose we have to in our roles as movie directors now don’t we? 😀 “View to make the heart sing”, it certainly is! 😍Thanks for taking us on this ride and now I need to get on with doing some work! 😂👍🏻
Hello Dave. Yes it certainly was a surprise to find that road so quiet. I imagine you rode it somewhat more swiftly than this 😂. Just popped something in the post to you - prompted by your ride video this morning. Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733hello Peter, not very much faster as I recall, we were restrained by traffic I think 🤔 looking forward to arrival of the postie! 🤗 thank you 👍🏻🙂
@MerciaMoto Oh best not get too excited, Dave. Looking forward to the Llyn trip and thank you for the Elan Valley one. That's quite some ride from Barmouth! Yes I was very fortunate not to be bothered by traffic on that road as its normally heavily used d. Our third part takes us through those little lanes again that you're used to from me. Camshaft arrived and it's a lovely thing. ❤️
Thanks Julia. Our first journey over that road was some 20 years ago now and used to the leafy lanes of Hampshire it came as a shock to see such a landscape.
Evening Peter..just come across from Martin..moorland biker. (He's videos are great) and your videos are very similar..bike ..scenery and history Just up my street. I'm retired now don't ride or have a channel just enjoy your type of videos. I'll back track your playlist now and I have subscribed...thank you . old dave (from Sunderland)...
Oh welcome to my channel Dave. Good to have your company. Yes Martin and myself do share a similar philosophy about why, how and where we ride, don't we. Hope you enjoy some of my earlier rides too. There's a new one from me each Thursday morning, all being well of course 😊. Best wishes, Peter
Thanks Peter, I don't mind a bit of bleakness but it was good to see that route without the wind and rain of last November! That fresh tarmac was there when I went through, it was a pleasant but very brief change from being bounced around for the previous umpteen miles. I wonder which way you're going next, whichever way I'm looking forward to it 👍
A particularly interesting watch for me Peter, thanks. Ingleton was one of our first regular destinations - camping near Beezley Falls with my old Hillman Minx, before discovered The Lakes for ourselves. Back in those days '73/'74, the undulations along there were amazing - a real rollercoaster ride, and we both looked forward to using the road when we eventually got back onto 2 wheels. But when we got there on our Commando 750, the road had been levelled off! Killjoys!! Since then I've spent more time than's good for me underground across there, when I became an enthusiastic caver during the '80's. I reckon that was a Triumph Speed Triple or something similar, and that superb closing view just serves to prove that there's more to railway viaducts than Ribblehead! Tremendous video again Peter, cheers. 👍
Thank you Martin - yes I guessed this would be an area you know with all the caves here. There's another lane running parallel which looks good to explore another time.
It's just a lovely impressive area full stop Peter. Hopefully I'll be back there in September on the REOC Red Nose Rally. Incidentally, the high moorlands south of Bentham towards Clitheroe are an absolute must if you get chance.
@@martintraffordmoorlandbike7121 Thanks Martin. Yes I've cycled it with Marion when we were staying just outside Clitheroe but haven't ventured that way on the Hunter yet, beyond the jubilee tower. That was around 3 years ago so a revisit is planned this year.
Thank you Mike. My first visit here was back in the early 2000s and that was around 300 miles to get here. I feel very privileged to live just 20-30 or so miles from here now so can enjoy it when I get a bit of free time and the weather is suitable. Thanks for watching. Peter
Hi Peter. Twinks and I stayed just outside Ingleton last November. We saw Ribblehead from both road and rail. We also went to Hawes before driving over Buttertub pass. Lovely to see the area again, thank you. I’d like to get back up there on two wheels.
Ah yes Jeff you were there in all that flooding.. Long way from home for you! I have yet to go over Buttertubs into the next valley (Swaledale) on the bike but it's a lovely one isn't it. Pleased to hear it brought you some memories 😊
That’s right, but we did experience some decent weather too. It’s all very beautiful around there. The Forest of Bowland was also most pleasant. Some priddy one could say 🙂 All the best Jeff
That was absolutely wonderful Peter. The view of Dent Viaduct was spectacular and I’ve added that to my “To Do” list. After yesterday’s deluge it’s brightened my day. 👍
Well that was a wonderful pre-dinner ride (I’m just off to make some toast to go with our homemade soup!). That last scene with the viaduct was postcard perfect! See you next Thursday.
Wonderful to see the viaduct again, Peter - and the view! 👌
Thank you. I'm so pleased you enjoyed our ride together. We were blessed with better weather than last time we went this way ☺️
Another terrific ride, Peter. Thank you.
Pleased you enjoyed it, Tim. A far cry from Berkeley Springs😂
Thank you very much for taking us on yet another beautiful relaxing ride. Looking forward to the next one. Take good care.👍
Thank you John and pleased you enjoyed our ride. Yes, third part through Dentdale will be ready for Thursday 😊
Great riding road
Yes - as long as it's quiet - can get very busy.
love this ride!
