I just realized, Gary frequently calls himself The Viceroy. The Viceroy butterfly has the same coloration as the Monarch butterfly, but is not toxic, instead depending on the Monarch butterfly's reputation for being toxic to get predators to avoid them. Similarily, Gary wears the colors of The Monarch, but he is not himself toxic, so he needs the toxic personality of The Monarch to guide him in the ways of villainy.
Actually the viceroy is toxic. The monarch gets its toxins from eating milkweed, but the viceroy makes its own. It's called Mullerian mimicry, where two species share similar aposematic signals and benefit from each other. A predator that eats a viceroy is less likely to taste a monarch and vise versa. This is different from Batesian mimicry (which we used to think viceroys did) where the mimic is essentially parasitising the aposematic species.
This is a great theory you've come up with, and I'm sure this is probably something the writers were doing at the time of writing, but viceroy butterflies have recently been discovered to also be in some way mildly toxic or otherwise distasteful to predators. The viceroy and the monarch look the same for the same reasons, not because the viceroy is using the look of the monarch.

The funny thing is that loyalty is the only thing keeping 21 from killing monarch cuz 21 could totally kill monarch if he wanted to.
Well, that and lack of any sort of drive or ambition. Besides, Ventures are *incredibly* difficult to kill, even when you kill them.
I know in a punch v punch battle Gary is stronger. I know they make him a funny dork but the monarch is a ruthless, unhinged, killer supervillain.
He told Gary to his face he was going to be executed while in a bathrobe and slippers. Gary didn't even argue.
@Chiefarino yeah but the monarch’s been in his share of scraps. Keep in mind he’s never been afraid of Brock. He’s seen all the horrible stuff Brock is capable of but he doesn’t blink when Brock as a knife to his neck. The monarch has guts and a genuine killer instinct, that can go far.
@Chiefarino sure, but the thing in question was that 21 could kill the monarch and I don’t think it’s as simple as that. I mean 21 would probably beat him in like an arm wrestling match or a pure test of strength, but the monarch is the kind of guy who bites in a fist fight, he’s not going down easy under any circumstances no matter who he’s fighting
I like this scene because it foreshadows 21 and the monarch's future friendship. Garry eventual realizes he is never going to find someone or some group to replace 24 in his life and the monarch realizes he can rely on more people other than his wife and not feel threatened
Now that they know they are brothers I think we will get another moment where Rusty and the monarch sit down and talk and we finally find out why he’s obsessed with arching him.
Or the whole fucking show gets cancelled. Fuck you AS.
It's probably a subconscious hatred for Venture senior that carried over to the son.

@@juliandavidhoffer2022 1) He banged the Monarch's mom (this is where Monarch comes from). 2) He convinced Monarch's dad to cheat on his wife, recorded it, and used the recordings to blackmail him into being a sex/murder slave. 3) He murdered the monarch's mom and dad in a plane crash, stranding Monarch in the wilderness for months. 4) He stole Monarch's dad's corpse and zombified it into a cyborg. 5) He MAY have taken the monarch's mom's brain to make a super computer in his basement.

I think this was the first episode I of venture bros I watched. So confusing yet enjoyable.
I could be wrong, but I think your supposed to put a rag over the victim's face. And pour more water at once than that. I've heard the idea is to make it feel like they're downing without actually dunking their whole head in a thing of water.
Nah, that's just water boarding. The Chinese water torture supposedly makes the victim go crazy by constantly dripping water on the middle of their forehead.
@@rakkatytam Oh, guess I had those two mixed up. Yeah, I'm going to have to go with 21, then, that seems more annoying than anything. And even if a person would lose it, it seems like it would take a lot longer than other methods.
I think this torture was meant to go long. Communists also used similar tactics thay Just locked person up in completetly silenced room and let the water drop from pipe rythmically. I think it was supposed to make the victim nervous and slowly going mad.

21 doesn’t hate his job. He might get burnt out, or frustrated, but the guy literally lives to be a henchman.
He has time and time again had opportunities to leave or move up to greater things, and every time he came back to the Monarch. Because henching is what he loves, and he’s the god damned best at it.

21 recommended them (monarch and mrs the monarch) a fancy chef or something like that, who made them a dish with some weird fancy ingredient in it. the monarch assumes he has acne growing in, until about an hour after dinner, his face is all lumped up to the point where not even his wife really wants to look at him
