Easily the best character in the show. Let's take a random no named henchman and make him so beyond fully fleshed out you'd swear you knew him personally like a brother.
And the funny thing is that by the end of season 4 he's not even done with his development. Since you'd think with the end of this episode he would just instantly join the good guys and no longer be on the villain's side but nope that doesn't work out and he goes and becomes monarch's partner and true #1 as they become new best friends by the end of season 7.

This scene was so well done. When I saw Orpheus appear to 21 it was a huge AHA! moment. How hadn’t I thought of it before? The dead loved one hallucination trope, wondering if they’re just in the persons mind or an actual supernatural spirit could be easily cleared up by the character who’s an ACTUAL Necromancer. They saved it for the season finale and it was well worth it.
I mean, to be fair, earlier on he said he couldn't resurrect 24. "But you're a necromancer, that's what you do!" "Well, to be honest... all of the other titles just sound like a cheesey kids game. Sorcerer, wizard.... Necromancer is really the only one we have left" (paraphrased) Damnit I miss this show... So much, I NEED THE MOVIE TO COME OUT!!!

This just makes it all the more impressive when 24 told him about the armed goons in Monstroso's office. He even knew one of them was carrying an ether soaked rag, even if he didn't know where it was. His instincts are fuckin killer
I think the hallucination/Ghost Henchman 24 even pointed out that perhaps he's not actually a ghost but just Henchman 21's instincts and self confidence. It's also part of the dialogue where 21 asks the "ghost" to shut off the security system while he's sneaking into the Venture compound and the "ghost" says that hes not a poltergeist.

Well the one behind me has something heavy in his breast pocket, so clearly a gun. The other one doesn't have a gun, so likely either ether or a garrot wire, and Monstroso seems the type to want a non-lethal option some of the time, so probably ether." Of course, his conscious mind doesn't think any of that, but his subconscious mind recognizes the patterns and pieces together that he probably has ether. It's like gamesense, sometimes you know where an enemy is going before you've actually figured out _why_ you know it.
Neo DC It makes you cry because the moment he realizes one of the details in his little hallucination he made to keep him from confronting what happened was wrong, he loses it all. There never was a ghost of 24, there was no small part of him hanging around, he just couldn't get over it. Then he was forced to. It's relatable not to want to confront losing someone, and it hurts.
He lost his best friend from the same henchmen trenches, Twice. The second time won't hurt as long but that realization will still uncover that first wound.
Just one of the many things that makes Orpheus tie with Gary for best character! When you need him, whether he or you know it (or like it) or not, he's there!
I'm still astonished of how underrated this show is. 33,000 views in just four years? Holy shit this show has some of the best writing. This was a real tear jerker and amazing character development for 21.
24 was never a ghost. Gary prided himself in knowing every person in tv shows/ movies. 24s death was a mystery to him as was the ONE tv show actor he did not know. It was all in his head, once he realized the movie actor wasn't a ghost it finally clicked that neither was 24. He couldn't unconsciously lie to himself anymore. And they vanished. Think like the movie Shutter island. When the truth finally clicks the lead couldn't hide in his little world anymore. ( until of course his illness reset. )
Or buba oj is a necromancer death counselor and Orpheus couldn’t sense him because he was conducting a private session with 24 and 21 to help them both move on. This is because 38 was able to see 24 as well.
Sometimes, I get confused in life too and have a hard time with reality. One thing I use to remind me "that it is real" is a little move straight out of the movie "Inception". I basically carry a little object with me that should react to reality. It can be anything that is personal to you such as marbles, pogs, cartoons, or just a simple broken piece of something. That always reminds me that "this is real" and nothing will change unless you try to make it change.

It’s sad... a conscious acknowledgement of his friends death and how not even his spirit remaining with him...just realising the absolute absence of 24 made reality crash into him. He’s been alone. He’s been alone for a long time and the relief of having his friend stay with him for months wasn’t real. I’m surprised 21 was able to stay in the game after this. If he were anyone else, this would’ve broken him utterly
It's even sadder knowing such people sucking into these delusions would do drugs after they disappear. Tbh, 21 became a true man long after this. No one knows him other than that tubby henchman, but we know him as the guy who quietly evolved as the show went on. The crazier thing is knowing he fully changed in a matter of a year or two in show-time.
I still find the whole premise hilarious. The fact that boba oje still being alive is what convinced garrys mind to accept reality and let 24 go. No deep meaning, just being faced with facts. It also probably confused garry because he would still be seeing 24 if his brain didn't decide to add boba oje to his delusion for whatever reason lol.
While we might never know the true answer it's possible that on a subconscious level, Gary wanted to move on and finally heal. So he set himself up with Boba Oje and just waited for someone to point out the truth to him.
Dude Gary finally letting go of 24 and hugging Dr. Orpheus while Dr. Orpheus comforting him that 24 is now in a better place was beautiful. Venture Bros being a comedy is great and all but scenes like this really make this show amazing
The prom episode is the best episode of any show ever. So much happens, so much changes but by the end they show you that they’re all still the same messed up “family.” I had happy tears at the end.

It's GREAT to see reoccurring characters', then having like a whole, non-consecutive episode dedicated to Hank & Deans' first Prom ( was pobly the longest they lived, the farthest they got, without dying. I like Dr. Orpheus. His almost tone deaf "when do I turn on the overdramatic yelling," how flawed he is but how desperately he yearns for that knowledge to better himself, how accepting he is of, or becomes with, everyone (Outrider, the guy who took his wife, acting as a perfect example of this).
Another great moment that foreshadowed 24 not being a ghost was when Gary stormed the Venture compound, and asked 24 to scout the area, to which 24 says he can’t. At first we think, “Oh even in death 24 is pretty lazy.” But then u realise he isn’t even real and it’s Gary’s guilt ridden mind making up a justification as to why 24 can’t help Gary because he’s not even there to begin with.
It is very "on brand" of this show to have a character reach some bittersweet closure on something traumatic, and receive comfort from others who are missing the point entirely of what he's going through but they still want to help anyway even if they're off the mark.
H.E.L.P.eR had a bomb that was planted on him by The Monarch. However, who actually detonated the bomb, considering The Monarch was immobile and covered in vomit at the time, is unknown. It was probably The Moppets.

Yeah man. Two broken down old men unable to even rehash what they had, and Jonny in particular. He's a stark, real depiction of what years of drug abuse does to a person.
But he lost his best friend for good, not to mention the impact of learning he may not have been talking to his friend's ghost at all. If we're going by the psychological aspect of it all, Gary was unable to fully cope with 24's death and hallucinated him, fooling himself into believing 24 was haunting him. So this revelation coming full circle has hit him hard. Of course, 24 might just be a wanker. Or it's Killinger's work.
My favorite part is the little detail when 24 started to become transparent once Gary’s hallucination started falling apart. What I still want to know is how was 24 seen by another henchman? Was there certain points that 24 had been real? Did he get pulled away that time he separated form Gary? Or was this interaction made up by Gary just so he can convince himself that his friend’s spirit was here and seen by others, validating his delusions as reality? Now, Orpheus is someone you can rely on when it comes to the supernatural, but in this scene he was drunk, so there’s still some questions about 24 being real or not. Either way, it’s a sad but a necessary lesson of accepting loss and letting go. It will hurt, yes, but in time you will heal. And Gary was not only able to move on, becoming not just the best but The Henchman of the Monarch, he found a new friend in Malcolm as well. It’s just so beautiful how deep the character developments are in this show.

I always felt the ghost of 24 was always there, just trying to stop Gary from Grieving (he does go through all 5 steps of grief), until he accepted 24 was dead. Once accepted, 24 passes... or does he?
Yes, but the explosion was controlled from a distance. The remote control for it was left in Cocoon, and there is no one in here because everyone was fighting in the venture compound so it still remains a mystery.
God this fucked me UP. Brief as it was, this is the most emotional the show had gotten up to this point, and to see my favorite character finally let himself grieve over the death of my other favorite character in the arms of my other other favorite character? It's powerful man.

Was there certain points that 24 had been real? Did he get pulled away that time he separated form Gary? Or was this interaction made up by Gary just so he can convince himself that his friend’s spirit was here and seen by others, validating his delusions as reality? Now, Orpheus is someone you can rely on when it comes to the supernatural, but in this scene he was drunk, so there’s still some questions about 24 being real or not.
Either way, it’s a sad but a necessary lesson of accepting loss and letting go. It will hurt, yes, but in time you will heal. And Gary was not only able to move on, becoming not just the best but The Henchman of the Monarch, he found a new friend in Malcolm as well. It’s just so beautiful how deep the character developments are in this show.

I always felt the ghost of 24 was always there, just trying to stop Gary from Grieving (he does go through all 5 steps of grief), until he accepted 24 was dead. Once accepted, 24 passes... or does he?

Damn, it never clicked with me how short 21 is until now. Also, shittiest prom night ever- jeez. Poor 21. At least he got through it, even if it took him a while.

I think Orpheus knew what 21 was going through and gave him some closer. What's even sadder is that 24 actually died and was all in 21s head. What even sadder is Orpheus probably wasn't even drunk he just wanted to help Garry.
