    in every method i was like:
    ok it starts to look like fur.
    ok now it doesnt look like fur at all
    aaand now it looks like fur again
    aaand it's gone....
    annnd it's up again.
    ok it's finished.... is it? yes it's finished.

      Suncho actually every drawing disappoints me. In the beginning it's beautifully detailed and contrasted and then she ruins everything by just making the fur being all black or brown. In the end it's beautiful, yes, but what's the point with making such an effort if she just colours everything in the end ?

    • @shazinboots
      @shazinboots 6 лет назад +56

      It adds depth. If I draw something and use just two colours it shows. Layering and building multiple tones really makes a difference. It's the key to a good piece of work, anything good takes time and patience 😊

    • @Kimseyiikgdjaj
      @Kimseyiikgdjaj 5 лет назад +21

      She is doing to many steps for a result with indirections. We cant say it is wrong or right.
      It is her effort.
      But the result is well done.

    • @kaiiico373
      @kaiiico373 3 года назад +4

      @@agisa123456789 actually by doing alot of steps it gives more depth, a more realistic look, and it gives more of a less grainy look. but if you want a realism/illustration type of drawing, then yes you can stop at the beggining :)

    Most excellent instructional video, thank you so much, I learned a lot about some new techniques! Not a fan of the annoying back ground music, though. Why not just use some nice classical guitar, violin, or piano music or some light jazz, or anything else? It would compliment your talent so much better. Just a suggestion. So many RUclips people use than same irritating, nonsensical Euro-techno “music.” Thanks again for the beautiful work.

    Hello Kirsty. For the first method being layering, I'm having trouble drawing the white highlights using a white prismacolor pencil. All it does is blend the colors leaving a slight streak of white. Is there any way to overcome this because I really don't feel like ordering more pencils because I have urgent artwork to complete. Nice video overall by the way. :)

Every since then I never have gone wrong when drawing fur.😂

      Sandra Chan try some good quality watercolor paper. You'd be able to use both layering and solvent on it as it is made for wet mediums and it also has a bit of tooth to it. She generally mentions the type of watercolor paper she uses for her solvent drawings in the description box and she also has a video on the types of paper you should use for specific types of drawings.

    Hi Kirsty! Please, if you do not have a Caran D'Ache white pencil, which would be a better substitute? The Faber Castell white? or the Prismacolor white? Thanks so much for the tutorial!!!

    • @TheArtofFencing
      @TheArtofFencing 6 лет назад

      Prismacolor would be better, I think, because it layers more solid over other colours. Polychromos white doesn't do that really well. With FC Poly you can sort of use the etching method with first drawing in your highlights white on blank paper and than go over with other colours. It sort of protects your highlights that way. With solvent you can than bring your hl back to nearly white.

    Can anyone help? I’m doing the methods but the problem is the white/ivory over the top isn’t showing up 🙈. I’m currently using castle premium soft touch pencils and a faber castell pencil for the white/ ivory

    Awesome video as always, Kirsty! I've used almost all methods in here and I must say layering is my least favorite. I find that methods 2 and 5 give the best results, although I use method 4 quite often as well!

      +Sara Carter thank you and yes the second one does get great results! I use the third method a lot when I do watercolour/ coloured pencil mixed media work or I tend to use the solvent quite a lot :)

    Thanks for explaining the techniques. Really useful video. I couldn't see the listing for the blender brushes. Apologies if I have missed it.

    With my cheap colored pencils, I can't use these techniques. I can only go one way light --> dark, never backward.

    When I try to start drawing out the hair that's on top/ supposed to be brighter, I never get such a bright tone of white. I'm using the same pencil(s) as you ( Caran D'Ache Luminance White). It seems like they are just blending but I can't get any strong detailed lines out of it. Any tips? What am I doing wrong? :(

    If I may ask, is there a type of paper you recommend for just about anything, really (aside from watercolour, of course)? I've been experimenting, but perhaps it's the way I'm doing it or the papers I'm using, but nothing has given me a smooth layer of colour yet. For pencil or copies, but I just wanted to ask your opinion.

    So fascinating! I wanted to learn this anyway, but it was a great cure for insomnia. I forgot myself trying to get the techniques right, and relaxed with focus on hand and pencils . . . and some of it actually looked like what you were aiming at. Then I got a glass of milk and went to sleep.

    I love how you did the etching fur. What a brilliant idea! I will have to try those soon so I don't forget and practice, practice, practice!
