Higher res will always make a noticable difference, even if upscaled or downscaled. My 4k tv will appreciate the resolution jump far more than 1080p tv's
0:03-0:20 Better draw distance in the Switch version? Look how clear, and far back the ocean pushes towards the background on Switch, compared the one on Wii U. No contest... lol. Those slightly better colors, contrast, and clarity, are a welcome addition as well! 😃
The texture filtering is SLIGHTLY better, but barely. At least it shows that they did try to improve it. At the start of the video, you can see the lines and tiles on Rainbow Road stay sharper just a bit further on Switch than on Wii U. The low texture filtering was really apparent on this track on Wii U, let's hope this tiny upgrade will make it less noticeable.
It has to be said, the recording quality of the Wii U looks lower than the Switch. They're both pretty blurry, but the Wii U's colours are washed out and the data rate is very poor all round. I wouldn't take anything here as an accurate indication of picture difference except for things like animation and effects etc. The picture quality of both recordings is too poor to tell finer details. Just saying, the higher contrast on the Switch picture is not something you should take as certain.
I never realized how gorgeous this game is. This is probably the reason there's no Mario Kart 9 yet; there's probably no way the Switch can get better than that and make a huge difference.
I just got a Switch, but never owned a WiiU. The Switch version looks better but you have to look really closely. Let's say for a moment that they were identical in spec. I'd still love having a portable WiiU. But I think these look the same because the goal was a port, not an upgrade, I wonder if we have yet to see how powerful the Switch is.
Notice you chose tracks that would be different because of 'light pollution'. They've really only removed that in essence, N64 Rainbow Road is the main one as the horizon/draw distance is only affected by that aspect, which is down to the lighting engine in the game, not graphics overall. Lighting in reality de-saturates colours, so it's only fair that a game in realistic-looking graphics reflects this, the Switch is just the perfect excuse for Nintendo to address issues with it
The only thing these Wii U vs Switch comparison videos really do is highlight how the 720p vs 1080p argument is dumb and how the "disappointment" in games that are not 1080p is contrived and a waste of resources.
Andrei Vlad The switch isnt that much more powerful that the WII U. I bought Zelda on both the Switch and Wii U just to see if there really was much difference. There really isnt enough to spend £280 if you already have a Wii U The difference between the power of the Wii U and the Switch is the same as the Xbox One and PS4.
Felipe M. Apart from resolution which from 720p to a 1080p is more than a 2x increase in pixels requiring a lot more horsepower. On a big screen? Yes... The difference would be very noticeable
Dd the arguement I'll make against this statement is two things. All of my friends have 720p tv's that make 1080p an irrelevent moot point and I have a 1080p smart tv that does a beautiful job upscaling my wii u to a full 1080, doesnt suffer much blur or pixelation. So for some people, not you of course, this is a trivial difference.
AParts/heart-of-a-dragoness argument? That is simply common sense regarding your display capabilities and only serves to highlight how such a generalised statement of the differences being trivial is simply not true to many.
King Oshawott no it isn't the switch is more powerful it has made the colours and texture look brighter just because you don't have a switch doesn't mean that u can just lie. (sorry I just got triggered)
Someone's got something against the Switch. Look this game isn't targeted at the people who got the original, the Wii U was a commercial failure Nintendo couldn't invest anything more into it if they wanted to, and it had a good run with some of the best Nintendo games of all time and it was supported literally right to the Switch's launch with literally one of the best games of all time The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Anyways most people don't get a system until a year or two in, consoles best years for sales are usually at least the second or third year, so there's no rush to change your mind just yet.
I'm saying you can't really prefer one or the other cause they're basically the same game. Saying the Wii U version is better doesn't make sense, it's like saying I prefer Super Mario Run on iOS over Android when they are the same thing.
The switch looks gorgeous but let's be honest, you don't tell a difference unless you put it side by side
Andkirby I really agree about that, but it is now certain that the Switch has actually a better grapic compared to the Wii U!

OldSchoolGaming4Life . I cant wait to play! lol
OldSchoolGaming4Life I definitely noticed better draw distance in Mount Wario.
OldSchoolGaming4Life I think the colors and saturation is due to the capture and not the console running it
Wii U version doesn't look so bad. This video is edited or something.

Switch seems to have more of a dynamic lighting system, I could be wrong.
You need to work on that Audio-Signal, guys! ^^
Also the RUclips compression doesn't do the looks any favor, sadly! D:

It just looks like the colors are enhanced slightly for the switch!

Did anyone notice extra fire on bowser in the switch version in 1:36
maybe it's a bit more orange
Ove Kloster . nooo, there is totally more fire..lol
LIT 😂😂😂😂💯💯💯👌👌

i know the switch is 1080p 60fps so what was the wii u version i heard 720p or 1080p 59p it looks better somehow
But are these being compared on the handheld or TV?
On handheld the switch has a better screen, so is going to look better.
TV
Not sure I can see any difference in the actual graphics but the enhanced resolution of the Switch port makes a surprisingly big difference.
And people were saying this version didn't have any graphical updates...
Hey Patrick, what am I now?!
Uhh...Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U?
No! I'm Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch!
What's the difference?
Corporate needs you to find the differences between this picture and this picture.
*They're the same picture*
switch is better. look at mario
Oh mercy! i can really tell the difference here..lol. For one, it looks much more vibrant..LOL Jee, but this looks great in any case.
I can't tell much a difference...still buying Mario Kart 8 deluxe day one
The only thing these Wii U vs Switch comparison videos really do is highlight how the 720p vs 1080p argument is dumb and how the "disappointment" in games that are not 1080p is contrived and a waste of resources.
Well of course the switch version will have sharper countrast colours, it was realesed way more recently than wii u
Bad driving but nice comparison 😃
the difference is very noticeable in your video
Wii U version doesn't look so bad. This video is edited or something.
Wii U version blurred as fuck omg, Switch >>>
What does wey have to do with it? Everything less
His TV*
So in terms of visual just a higher contrast on Switch, which I doubt Wii U cant do, but they had to make a "difference" on Switch.
That contrast can be summed up to the video capture, however it's entirely possible they're using a different bloom effect though.
Andrei Vlad

The graphic quality is obviously better on Switch than on Wii U gamepad. Switch screen has better resolution than the Wii U gamepad.
黃鑫 cool!
Andrei Vlad the Wii U version is 720p and the switch version is 1080p that's the difference
The graphics on the switch look a little better than the Wii U game.
comparation fps??
Es una Nvidia vs AMDRadeon no entonces comprar una tarjeta de vídeo Nvida para PC
Am I the only one who likes wii u version like switch? :(
Awesome graphics.
is it only me or is the wii u verson kinda of a blur
Shawn G. Figueroa Nope, the Wii U version runs at 720p but the Switch runs at 1080p, meaning that the Switch has better graphics.
Felipe M. I only like the game because it has all of the DLC in it (I didn't have any on Wii U!) and it has an unreal battle mode.
I am praising the shit out of MK8D
because it fixed my favorite mode: Battle.
That and portability. If I'm a "fanboy," so be it. :p
I see it got kind darker little and more details
Ronald Eugene Barrowman the 3rd It got brighter
oh sorry to me it's just has more details on bowser castle
Both graphics are terrible because of your quality
Richard Brown true
It's RUclips's fault not Direct-Feed Games. Just sayin :I
Listen to the sound
Richard Brown It's visible when you put the video in 1080p duh.
Kim André Moen Bjørkede . LOL
All they added was 8 battle course and other little stuff it isnt shit
Well the switch runs faster than the wii u
It looks like mariokart 8 deluxe is just a dusted form of mariokart 8
looks the same to me
I hardly see any difference
I'm not sure, Switch has cleaned up graphics but the with the Wii U you can use a Wii wheel
JeeperCreeperMC ye but there is a wheel for the joycon as well.
There is also a Joy Con wheel accessory for the Switch.
www.destructoid.com/nintendo-president-backward-compatibility-for-controllers-may-be-considered-for-switch-417505.phtml
+Felipe M. What do you call the Wii Wheel? Isn't it literally a piece of plastic you strap the Wii mote to?
JeeperCreeperMC they are selling wheel attachments for the joy cons for about $20
Basically Same Innit
Theres really no difference other than ot looks like they used a shitty tv for the wii u. They should have totally reinvented it.
Wii u 4 life
Giddy Gamer no way
is the same thing
This is clibate no?
quiere decir que en la switch es la brillante
no difference
sieht nicht wirklich ande es aus
Mario Gamer2.0 ja
es lo mismo
xbox one s
trivial differences
GrimaceBSX 1080p vs 720p isn't trivial.....

The Wii U version looks prettier tbh

L except the contrast is different and so is the graphical quality
